“A jewel in Northwest Tuscany”
Reviewed October 28, 2012

Upon our arrival, we were greeted by Pepper to assist us with our bags. In fact, he had been trying to reach us during the day by email as there was the possibility of a train strike and he wanted to be sure we did not get stranded en route. The B&B has been lovingly restored and decorated with tasteful furniture and art. In the late afternoon, Pepper gave us a personal tour of the fortress - what an amazing structure with meaningful American connections from the 2nd world war. Later we met up with Rusty for dinner at a local restaurant with recommendations from Rusty and Pepper as they have eaten everything on the menu! Breakfasts featured local fresh fruit, meats and cheeses as well as special gluten-free pastry prepared especially for our dietary needs. What a wonderful treat! We'll definitely be back - and next time we'll stay longer!

This was our third time to visit Casa La Pace and it just keeps getting better. After a week in and out of Ghivizzano, we went to Florence for 3 days and really missed the beauty, serenity, and hospitality of Casa La Pace. It has become ITALY to us.

Let me first start off by saving that if you come to Italy and DON'T go to Casa La Pace in Ghivizzano you are nuts! I have always wanted to go to all the places that everyone wants to go...FLorence, Venice, etc. and never knew what little towns held in them. Let me tell you that Casa La Pace and Ghivizzano was the highlight of my trip! Rusty and Pepper went out of their way to make me feel comfortable, even giving me pointer on where to go when I left Ghivizzano. It was so wonderful in fact, that I cancelled my plans for the last two days and went back to spend more time there. Casa La Pace is absolutely beautiful. Rusty and Pepper did am amazing job renovating it and it is like no other bed and breakfast I have ever stayed in. I got to meet the most wonderful people in the Village and even went with Rusty on my first day to pick up our breakfast at the local vendors. I HIGHLY recommend Casa La Pace...I don't know if I would ever want to stay anywhere else. I would make Casa La Pace my main stop for every future trip to Italy and you should too!

Our week at Casa La Pace was one of the most memorable trips we have ever taken! We loved the beautiful countryside, the welcoming people, the delicious food, the interesting history....but it all comes to life when Rusty and Pepper enter the picture! They were our personal tour guides, and introduced us to all their friends, which is everyone they have ever met. The amount of history they shared with us was amazing. When we ventured out on our own, they made sure we were prepared with train or bus tickest, schedules, and even snacks for the road. They were so accommodating, I cannot imagine learning more or experiencing real Italian life without these guys leading the way! Thank you both for the best possible experience for our first trip to Italy!!

I brought 4 friends to Casa La Pace to visit Pepper and Rusty's "Little bit of Heaven" in Ghivizzano expecting a nice and friendly atmosphere, but we received so much more. The property is lovely but their hospitality made our vacation perfect. Ghivizzano is an excellant location from which to base while traveling to the northwest Tuscany area. It is an easy train ride to Lucca, The Sercio Valley and Florence. We had spa treatments in Bagni di Lucca, walked the tree lined wallof the Old Town in Lucca compliments of Napoleon's sister, Elisa Bonaparte Baciocchi, and shopped in Castelnuovo di Garfagana. I feel we experienced the REAL Italy, and can't wait to return.

Room Tip: The Victoria Room has a breathtaking view of the Castle and the old town of Ghivizziano.

I came to Casa la Pace with three friends to explore an area of Tuscany that was new for me. Rusty and Pepper offered something for everyone in our group-guided tours for those that were experiencing Italy for the first time and ideas for solo day trips for those of us who had been to Italy before. My favorite thing about being at Casa la Pace was the warmth of not only Rusty and Pepper, but of the whole community! Evening walks involved animated conversations with the neighbors, holding babies and invitations to dinner. I felt like a member of the Ghivizzano community by the time our stay was winding down. Rusty and Pepper were the consummate hosts, introducing us to cheesemongers, restaurant owners, and local craftsmen. I will definitely be ack over and over again!

Room Tip: The room at the top has an amazing view of Ghivizzano alto!

Dear Fraujen,

Casa La Pace Bed and Breakfast would like to thank you for your kind review.

We enjoy meeting new people and spending time with our guests. We are always happy to introduce our guests to the beauty of our town and the warmth and generosity of the people of Ghivizzano. The typical tourist will rush from 'must see' tower to 'must do' museum. We hope guests of Casa La Pace will see a different Italy, of a slower pace and more meaningful experiences.

We are glad that your group came to stay with us and are delighted that you found your time with us rewarding and memorable. We look forward to your many future visits to Casa La Pace.

Your hosts, Rusty and Pepper
