This very scenic location by the grassy river side is a bit of a hidden gem.
So far, the only venue we have been to twice.

St Mullins is a hidden gem and this cafe is in a great location but the food is average and quite pricey.
The service is also quite slow.
Therefore I would recommend to bring a picnic and enjoy the location as it was meant to be.

On impulse we recently headed down to St. Mullins and the river to have a lunch in the Mullichain. They seem to specialise in good weather down there as the sun was shining and the river sparkling and lots of people were enjoying the day out. A table was found for us and one of us had a delicious leek and potato soup, Then one had the charcuterie and the other a prawn and crab sandwich ,open, on delicious bread. Martin was there and amiable and welcoming as ever-giving credit to his son for the fine soup and to his wife for the great baking. We shared a delicious coconut slice to finish and were very pleased. Lovely fresh food at a very reasonable price. So much so that one of us arrived back with a friend the following day! Martin's son, he of the delicious soup! was outside as we emerged and is every bit as affable as his dad. There was a poster up re the place being closed on mondays but not for bank Holidays and we were attempting to refigure it so that it was less confusing. The thing is they are closed on Mondays but open for bank holiday mondays! I hope I have that correct as I'd hate to deprive anybody of the pleasure of eating at the Mullichain cafe!

While staying in the area we drove down to St.Mullins for afternoon tea. This small cafe is in a beautiful location along the River Barrow . We were lucky the day we visited it was a warm sunny day so we had fab homemade scones topped with jam & cream & tea outside , really nice . Staff & owners were extremely friendly both the cafe & toilets were spotless. Keep up the hard work & hope i get the chance to visit again

Visited here today after a walk along the River Barrow. It has a beautiful situation on the bank of the river. Had a coffee, tea and 2 scones. Everything was tasty, but too expensive. The scones were too small to allow for sharing and at a total cost of 10.70 it was a bit too steep for my pocket. I like the place and would not like to see it close, but this is my second time leaving here feeling stung. I will pack a picnic next time I go that way.
