Staying close to Inistoige we decided on a small tour of the area and St Mullins came on our radar as a pleasant place to stop. Driving into the village you see that it is really attractive and following the signs down past the motte and bailey to the Mullichain cafe we thought we might be on to a winner. Sitting literally on the banks of the river the old grain store now houses the cafe and some self catering accomodation. There is a simple enough menu and as we were arriving later in the afternoon we only ordered a sandwich and some pate with toast. Absolutely fresh and delicious. The pate was home made and beautiful, smooth and with great taste. It was accompanied by a really fresh and tasty salad. You got a sense that, on observing the other dishes being served, that all the food would be good. It is a cosy place with inside and bank side seating. There is loads of touring information available and really freindly chat from the owner. Overall it is a place to go back to and enjoy the river paths before rewarding yourself with a stop here.
