Just back from a peaceful girlie weekend away at Little Owl.
We travelled down Saturday, via Ledbury and Ross-on-Wye. Ledbury was a lovely market town with lots of little shops and cafes, we managed to spend around 2 hours here. Rose-on-Wye was visited purely because that was the nearest place to Mitcheldean with a supermarket that we could find.
Karen's instructions were very useful for how to get to the property, just need to insert a "you will think you're lost, but carry on going". We were very confused, but it all came together. I'm just very glad I printed out all the instructions! The property is at the end of a very long, single track lane. It has a fair amount of pot holes and is rougher than I was expecting. My Hyundai i20 managed it, but anyone with a lowered car has no chance.
Once we arrived, it was very easy to figure out parking and where to access your key. We were initally a little disappointed that we did not have a view from the property itself (other than a rusty garage). However, we enjoyed the view from the garden/fenced area.
The accommodation was clean and the welcome tray was lovely with local apple juice, biscuits, milk and a few tea bags/coffee sachets - remember to take your own if you will need more.
Saturday night, we were aiming to go out for dinner, but discovered that no pubs in Mitcheldean served food - none that we could figure out anyway. After travelling all day, we didn't want to travel again so got Chinese takeaway, which was delicious. Definitely recommend. We cosied down for a night of watching DVD's, there were a few you can borrow, but we had taken our own.
Sunday, we went for a walk in Symond's Yat which was chilly but beautiful. We cooked our own dinner Sunday night, the kitchen had everything we needed, but I'd recommend taking your own foil/greaseproof paper if you require it.
I'd also recommend taking your own toilet roll if you're staying for more than a night, as we ran out before we left. - We mentioned this in our feedback and Karen emailed to let me know that this is in the FAQs, we unfortunately hadn't seen this.
Overall, it was a nice and peaceful weekend away.
I stayed here in August for 3 days. I wish it had been more and fully intend to return.
The accommodation is 5 star. Everything you require is in the cottage along with a welcome pack of Apple juice, milk, tea, coffee and some delicious locally made biscuits. A very welcome pack thankyou.
The area is outstanding with walks directly from the cottage door. My 2 dogs loved their walks in the forest as did I.
Thanks again Karen
We stayed at little owl, which was a compact little cottage in a beautiful location, very serene with Amazing views.
Great facilities, lovely welcome tray and great for our dog!
Good location to get to all the places we wanted to visit and nicely tucked out of the way for relaxation.
Would definitely book again, great value for money and felt very at home there.
Excellent location, lovely studio flat.
Many thanks to Karen for your time and help all the best for the future
Superb accommodation located on the edge of Forest of Dean. Easy access to many attractions within the area including Symonds Yat (spectacular), Clearwell Caves, Mallards Pike Ponds, Ross on Wye. The standard of the studio was second to none, well-appointed, quality furnishings, tasteful décor, spotlessly clean and well equipped. Friendly, helpful owners. Many birds to observe, not to mention Barney the donkey and rare breed sheep and pigs. Vehicular access to the property was not at all daunting. Very generous and varied welcome tray much appreciated. Shops and eating places within easy access.
Lovely quite location but not too far from the attractions. Great place to stay, really clean, with attention to the all important details. Dog towels and sofa covers where provided and complimentary apple juice, milk and biscuits. Would definitely recommend a stay here.
Very friendly, comfortable and easy to live in. Lovely walks - a great place to stay and enjoy the Forest.
