We wouldn't have booked here if my husband had realised there is no kitchen, to be fair this is stated on website. How anyone would manage with children I don't know as only room for two at dining table, there is a small table in each bedroom. Washing up in the bathroom is unpleasant and difficult.
The view of the property is misleading as entry to the property is at the back.
The place is clean and the bed is comfortable but the layout doesn't work, the only way to watch tv is from the bed. The location is lovely, very quiet overlooking fields.
Peacefully quiet, no hassles, no dramas. Far enough away to feel secluded but close enough to civilisation to be left feeling you're in the middle of nowhere
We visited in March, which wasn't the best due to constant rain, but we were happy to find the place was in a pretty setting with a lovely outlook. The owners have created a lovely place to get away from it all. We stayed with friends and it was kind of fun, congregating in the bigger bedroom to have breakfast in the morning. The decor and set up are all to a high standard. Lots of little touches, making it a home from home. Very small negatives were, the bedroom our friends stopped in is two single beds put together (we were told this in advance and so wasn't a problem for us). Also when we came back after our evening out, there isn't anywhere comfortable to sit and chat. There are chairs, but these are the sort that you sit at a table on. Again don't let this put you off, as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay an found the owner helpful and hospitable. A lovely stay and would recommend.
We really enjoyed our two nights at this cottage. It was peaceful and quiet, within easy access of the Forest of Dean. We were able to walk to the pub and the village of Lydney. There was plenty of leaflets and information about local attractions and a helpful welcome letter. The cottage was delightful, inside and out with a lot of attention to detail to make our stay more comfortable. Loved the shower. Pity that there is no kitchen area to prepare food and clean the dishes. We made use of the old DVDs provided and of course the kettle for a cuppa.
Would definitely stay again and have already recommended to friends.
We enjoyed a short autumn break at this old mill cottage. Situated down a quiet country road (look for the sign to Aylburton Common) on the edge of a farm, very quiet, but a few minutes' walk to the village. Two sizeable bedrooms with modern shower, facilities included several towels, jar of coffee, TV, microwave, fridge, and some crockery, cutlery and glasses, and cleaning products, plus children's toys and some old books and DVDs. All clean and well presented. Perfectly located as a base for touring around the Forest of Dean, via the Cotswolds or Wye Valley. Couple of friendly pubs in the village and superstore in the next town.
