“Average food at a high price”
Reviewed September 21, 2013

I Love french food. Going to a french restaurant is a treat. French food is supposed to be unexpected, creative and not the usual food that you can have at any coffee shop. Unfortunately this was not the case at Red Rabbit.
To say i was disappointed would be an understatement. Starter was OK - carpaccio. The main was far from good and the portion was small. I had the salmon and risotto. I was looking forward to the risotto, as i LOVE risotto. It was not good. I ended up eating the fish only. My friend ordered rabbit la rouge and was so unimpressed that she hardly eat it.
Service was OK but i don't think this is enough. Won't be back.

It's always nice to go out the weekend and find a stunning place with good food and excellent service. Thank you to the staff and management for making our outing worth it. Love the menu and the good coffee.

“Yum! (Except dessert)”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

Walking into Red Rabbit the first thing you notice is the amazing decor-they have really made an effort to make the place look really wonderful. We were lucky enough to be placed at the chef's table which is in a semi-private little nook for parties of 8 or more, it made the whole evening just a little bit more special. Small things like the wooden bunny and the iron roosters on the table just elevate the setting to something unique and memorable.
Starters were a mix of pumpkin soup (a delicious custardy creation that they should think of turning into an ice-cream flavour), snails (very good but wasn't served with any bread so the sauce was wasted) and baked camambert (best presentation of the night and very nice but not the best baked camambert I've had).
Main courses are definitely the highlight of this restaurant, the signature "Rabbit la Rouge" is exceptional and the steaks (whatever variety) are done to perfection.
The desserts unfortunately need a bit of work, they were good but nothing to write home about-they are actually fairly bland and not worth the price. Rather pick-up a Mcflurry on the way home.
Service was excellent and in general I'd say it's definitely worth the visit-just be warned, it's not the cheapest place in the world.

“Don't waste your time or money”
Reviewed July 31, 2013 via mobile

If you're looking for a great meal in Joburg or Bryanston, seriously - DON'T COME HERE. Overpriced, unimaginative and generally cr@p. Rather go to Licorish just down the hall. Waiter was helpful, but couldn't make up for the poor, overpriced food. We are ducking before dessert - which really says something as we have really sweet teeth .

“Red Rabbit is delightful”
Reviewed July 27, 2013

The French Grill is quiet at lunch time, which means our food came quickly. We had the duck pie (delish) and the chicken with truffle mash which was succulent and superb. But the best part was dessert which was a chocolate pie. A huge slice of very rich pie (you can taste the butter), which is perfect for sharing. I recommend it highly.Waiters were friendly and fast. Only down point is the bathroom, which is being repaired presently. I highly recommend this restaurant. It's not a cheap lunch, but the food was worth it.
