“Amazing holiday, can't wait to go back..!!”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

We have just returned from an amazing week in Chalet Robin, Morzine. We travelled as a large group where the number of kids outnumbered the adults but Sam, Jon & Rick from More Mountain and our superb chalet hosts Andy & Kate made sure we had a really fantastic time.
The chalet didn't disappoint at all, the kids thought that their own den area in the mezzanine lounge was brilliant & as for having Kate cook them bacon & eggs every morning well, all I can say is that one of my sons (age 6) is now expecting the same every morning at home!!
The lifts to the piste in the morning were invaluable with the ages of the children we took with us (9,9,8,6,6,5 & 4!!!) and Andy was so patient with us even having to make several journeys when we had taken the wrong skis or forgotten sets altogether! However if you were just a group of adults the short walk to the bus stop is no hassle at all.....
Kate was so accommodating with cooking separate tea for the kids earlier so that we could enjoy our grown up dinner later on & the food that she cooked was so tasty & very welcome after a day on the slopes..not forgetting the amazing cakes that she left out for us on our return in the afternoon..
Overall, I would highly recommend this chalet & am just gutted that when we book next year Andy & Kate won't be there to look after us, although I'm sure Sam & Jon will have found some equally excellent hosts!
Thanks to all & look forward to coming back next year xx

If this is a prisoner of war camp, lock me up and throw away the key.

We had a great week in Morzine and Chalet Robin was wonderful, Andy and Kate are tremendous hosts. The MoreMountain bosses, Sam and Jon were also very welcoming and entertaining. The chalet was immaculate and generally well laid out, the living area was comfortable with a funky log burning stove, there's a separate dining area and the bedrooms were very comfortable. And the hot-tub, oh the hot-tub.

The catering was excellent and Kate went out of her way to make sure that the solitary cheese hater, me, was looked after, which was most appreciated. All of the meals were of a high standard, especially the duck, and there was plenty of good wine and beer to wash them down with.

Having Andy to drive us out to the main lifts in the morning and pick us up at the end of the day, post apres-ski and pre hot-tub, was a great service and he was able to arrange a wee discount for us on the price of the lift pass, too. The walkie talkies were really useful for keeping in touch with our large group, and with Andy at the end of the day when we needed to be transported home.

All in all this is a great chalet. The only slight downside is that the rooms have an ensuite shower but no toilet but other than that it's a place you should try!

After reading the review below this one I was a bit worried about how we would find this chalet but after our week in Morzine the women who wrote the review has clearly never been on a ski-ing holiday before and was probably expecting round the clock waiting staff and a butler service into the bargain...

More mountain did a sterling job for us and have certainly succeeded in their mission to provide a much more contemporary and friendly feel in their chalets than your average ski lodge. The whole chalet was spotless on our arrival and is decorated in a much less 'twee' fashion than place we have stayed in previously..There are a large range of DVDs & computer games etc which Im sure would be useful for groups with kids particularly and we did use them on occasion.

The service (including the food) we received from Andy and Kate was top drawer and they were happy to accommodate all requests as best they could.. The walkie talkies that were provided to the group to keep in contact with the chalet and each other were particularly useful touch and I'd certainly recommend using them to anyone who is visiting..

The hot-tub is also great (although it could be a little bigger) and was well used by the group at the end of the day. A sauna would also be a great addition.

In short Chalet Robin is a great place to stay and our hosts Andy (Monkey sticks) and Kate (Kitty Kat) were absolutely superb with us all week.. thanks to them and to Jon and Sam from More Mountain for looking after us so well..

Positives:

Modern chlaet decor
Genuinely great hosts (thanks monkey sticks and Kitty Kat)
DVDs and games
Quality Stereo and free PC
Free Wifi
Excellent food
Hot-tub
Lovely fire
Seperate area for kids

Negatives:

A little further out of town than we would have liked (ideally)
One bathroom/shower between the 2 twin rooms is not ideal.
The fire/chimney being right in the middle of the room breaks up the conversation a little as its hard to see everyone.
Sky TV advertised has hardly any channels.

Overall very good though.

PS Sleep quality is only a 3 because I had to share with a guy in a group who snored very loudly all week..

Ski direct were great delivering skis to chalet and Morzine and the Ski instructors ESF were exceptional. The resort was excellent.

Stayed at Chalet Robin for the Christmas Week with family of 11 Adults: 1st impressions were very promising, .given canapes on our evening of arrival and made very welcome by Andy and Kate. That’s when it all started to go downhill. This never happened again.
Breakfast was ok, if you like the same thing everyday, at the same time: We were given no choice of times or of what we would like (even the option of 15mins later would have been a comprimise). The same every day expect christmas day... I guess this must have been the exception. We were also told that we could not go into the kitchen due to Health and Saftey.. So could not even prepare ourselves anything should we want too…. Ummmmm!!
Arrived on Saturday and were given clean towells on Thursday the day before we left. Our rooms were never cleaned or beds made the whole time we were there.
Lifts to the slopes were offered: again at a time of convenince to suit our hosts not the guest staying at the the chalet: we needed two lifts because the mini bus did not cater for all of us to travell together. This was only offered early in the morning at 9am and then you are expected to stay on the slopes all day till 4.30 when it is convient for the host to collect you. Which did not always happen? Evening Meal was adequat but again no option of choice or consideration for time of meals. They were sevred very late. Sometimes it felt like we were staying in a POW camp not a supposed 5* chalet. (Definatley not) Beds were extremley uncomfortable and cheap, did not get a good nights sleep the whole week..

Would we stay at this chalet again? Defeniatley not. Would not even recommend it to friends or family!

Thanks for taking the time to review our chalet. We are very disappointed that you felt the need to write such a negative response to our business on behalf of your party, particularly when we received such good feedback from the group leader who booked the holiday on your behalf. We do, however, appreciate this was your first chalet holiday and that you had never stayed in a catered ski chalet before. It is quite clear that your holiday at Chalet Robin, booked by someone else on your behalf, was not quite the "hotel" experience you were expecting.

We are very clear on our website about the service we provide. We are a small friendly and personal business and as a professional ski chalet operator, we don't try to be a hotel. Catered Chalet Holidays are unique, and different to the norm, hence why we let you know when you arrive, during champagne and canapes, how things work. Dinner is a set menu and included in the cost of your holiday. It is freshly prepared by your hosts daily (which is very normal in a ski chalet) and served at 7.30pm every night with good quality wine.

With regard to cooking for yourselves on an ad hoc basis in the ski chalet, it is not possible as it is not a self catered property. It is a fully catered property and we are not permitted to allow our guests to cook in our kitchen due to licensing and health and safety regulations. This is standard practice.

We offer a flexible pick up and drop off service to and from the mountain in our 8 seater minibuses and landrovers between 8.30 and 10.30 am in the morning and after 4pm in the afternoons which generally suits skiers and boarders really well. There were a number of occasions when our staff actually went out of their way to pick your group up and drop off outside of the normal pick up and drop off times as you didn't start ski-ing until 11.30 every day and we picked you up at 3.30 on a number of occasions. We even had walkie talkies so you could radio us when you needed a pick up - we will always try to accommodate.

We offer a delicious continental breakfast daily with an additional cooked option of bacon and eggs to set you up well for the day ahead. This is served at a set time agreed by yourselves "as a group" the night before to allow you to get on the slopes at your convenience to enjoy the days ski-ing.

Our chalet is immaculate when you arrive and all communal spaces are cleaned throughout on a daily basis. As our staff don't live in, they are not in the chalet all day long so rooms can only be cleaned after breakfast once our guests go on the mountain. We clean rooms on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. If you had specifically wanted your room cleaned at a later time than normal we would have gladly accommodated but it is often difficult to do this when our guests are still in the chalet. Incidentally many of your party actually requested that we were not to clean rooms as they preferred to lie in.

We offer a towel change and L'Occitane toiletries top up once a week after the chalet host day off - we don't normally offer a daily change, however, if you had wanted one all you would have needed to do was ask and we could have accommodated. Our beds are top quality and come from a hotelier supplier and we even put thick mattress toppers on our doubles to ensure there are no gaps!

Chalet holidays are all about fun and getting out on the mountain to enjoying the ski-ing - they offer great value for money. You are the first person in 6 years to complain about being expected to stay on the slopes all day! We cannot help but think your main aim was not to ski and perhaps you would have enjoyed a more flexible approach to your first ski holiday in a self catered property or hotel.

.... and finally, we truly thought your reference to a "POW camp" meant POWDER as it was dumping and had dumped a shed load of snow in Morzine when you arrived!

Kind Regards

Chalet Robin is a beautiful chalet, with loads of gadgets and games for big and little kids. The chalet has a nice layout and plenty of space meaning you don't feel on top of each other the whole time. The skis being delivered to the chalet was a huge bonus, especially with kids to get fitted. The bus stop is within easy walking distance if you miss the morning drop off and evening pick ups.

The food was fantastic and I would pay to get hold of their recipes. If anyone from Moremountain is reading this feel free to email them to me.

Our hosts Andy and Kate couldn't of been more helpful and friendly and if they hadn't told us this was their first winter season we would of never have known. They were great with the kids (and patient), a favourite part of their day was a lift to the slopes in Andy's yellow bus.

I would have no hesitation in holidaying with Moremountain again especially if Kate and Andy were hosting.

As usual More mountain lived up to their reputation of providing a fantastic holiday! My 2nd stay in Chalet Robin (the first in the summer time a few years back) and this chalet does not disappoint in one bit! The luxurious lounge is a great place to chill after a full day on the hill, and the hot tub is amazing! Nathan and Laura are great hosts and always happy to go that extra to make your stay a memorable one! Sam and Jon even managed to put in the Order for a couple of powder days.... Couple that with a Fantastic board test from the Subvert guys and the week was an epic one!

From initial inquiry to departure, faultless. Our group of 5 were very well catered for, some required ski equipment, this was pre-booked through doorstep ski's, which gave excellent service, equipment and price.
Whilst we were relaxing upstairs drinking the champers and vino the ski equipment was delivered and set up down stairs.
Skiidy Gonzales provided the transfers to and from the airport, they were perfect and prompt.
Chalet Robin has to be the perfect place for anyone wanting that extra special place to stay.
our hosts Laura and Nat dog were absolutely brilliant, Laura' perfect cooking and cakes! Nathan for running around for us, the beer bucket in the hot tub!! and dropping us off and picking up in the afternoon. A good day taken round the area.
it is the first ski area that we did not manage to cover everywhere.
For those thinking it may be a bit to far out, the bus route is 1-2 minutes walk from the chalet if you need to and a 5 min walk in the evening to the town for more apres ski.
Sam & Jon have created a perfect and exceptional retreat and the outstanding red wine is the finishing touch.
Good luck to Laura & Nathan on your future ventures.
Good luck to Sam & Jon with those little feet!
Thanks again for a excellent trip, we will be back,
Rich, Ste, Simon, Antony & Gary.
