“Best ski hotel we have stayed in France”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

This family run hotel is second to no other we have experienced in the French Alps. Recommended by a friend we spent a wonderful week here. It is at once romantic but also congenial for groups. The food is some of the best we have ever had, the staff is superb. Would definitely go again.

I wrote last year that this 3 star hotel was not worth a fourth. it is now. (in fact, each of the rather picky criticisms I listed in my last review have been addressed in the intervening year - I flatter myself, but perhaps the management reads Trip Advisor!)
The modernised rooms are certainly much better than the older ones. We were allocated room 28. It had no bath and when we requested a move to a room with one, we were offered one of the unmodernised rooms, being the only alternative. It was clean, but it looked a little tired when compared with the first room. The bed (although very good) did not seem as new or with such a good mattress, although I could be wrong. We decided that not having a bath was not so bad after all! The manageress was very gracious, understanding perfectly.
Excellent food still and very good service. We shall definitely return next year.
Incidentally, I understand that one reason it does not have its fourth star is that a couple of bedrooms do not have an ensuite bathroom. It's a shame if this be true, although it could also be down to the standard of the unmodernised rooms. There seems to be an ongoing modernisation programme for the older rooms, which as I say are simply slightly tired and dated rather than anything else.

Room Tip: Room 28 is modernised. Good size room. Very quiet. Shower than bath. Very powerful shower at that...

We spent a week in the hotel over New Year's Eve on a half board basis.

We were extremely comfortable in two of the refurbished rooms and very impressed with the food and with the fairly recently added spa in the basement. The family owners made sure we were well settled and were always very welcoming and courteous.

This is a great location for skiing both the Swiss and French sections of the ski area, with loads of different territory for everyone.

We had rooms 30 and 31, which are set away from other rooms at the end of one floor so that a door can be locked across the corridor. We were given the key to this door - effectively our rooms could then be left unlocked, opening onto a private area locked to the rest of the hotel. As our sons are quite young this was a great arrangement. Both rooms were large and very comfortable with good sized balconies.

Although the set dinners were of a very high quality, including a fantastic cheese course every night, we did often feel that service was a bit slow and that the a la carte diners, coming in to the hotel for dinner only, were more important to the maitre d' than the hotel guests. This is my only gripe really, and was not a huge issue, we had a very good stay overall and would go back.

everyone mentions the great location of this hotel and its true, its hard to think of a better located hotel in Morzine. the room (well our room at least) was average but i think we had the cheap option. a little petty maybe by the shower is a nightmare as water goes everywhere but hardly a big deal. The food was indeed amazing, very great quality and an amazing cheese board. The lady who ran the hotel very kindly let us use the room on the day of our flight home which made such a difference as we skied until 3 pm for a show and a quick pack before our transfere. i have stayed in hotels before when you need to check out and have a shower and change in the communial area . believe me this is much better. very kind of her.
recommended.. O and the skiing was pretty awesome as well. still lots of snow and plenty of sunshine

Room Tip: we had a room overlooking the square which was great for views but not so good when the aweful Frenc...

Just returned from a 4 day ski trip. I stayed in Morzine last year in hotel les cotes however they didn't have availability so we chose this hotel. The location for skiing is amazing. Just by Le plenny for ski lift. Surrounded by good bars, shops and restaurants. The hotel decor is a little dated in my opinion but it is very clean and rooms cleaned daily. We had a junior suite which was basic but good view of slopes. Stayed half board and food was really nice although no choice was given. You basically get what you get. If you're a fussy eater this may have been a problem, however it was good quality food. My only slight downside to this hotel was the boot room. It absolutely stank beyond belief of raw sewage. They clearly have a huge problem with their pipes and it was just horrendous. Hope they sort that out soon. We ended up leaving r skis at hire shop in the end rather than go down there!! Overall would recommend, a little expensive but nice and central.

Although only having 3 stars, this hotel is regarded as one of the best in Morzines. That is not to damn with weak praise. Standards are high.
The food it serves in the restaurant (whether the set menu for residents or a la carte) is exceptional. Four very good courses each night with a vast wine list. Many of the rooms have recently been refurbished to a very high standard. From glimpses through open doors when being cleaned, the others look rather tired and dated. We had a very good suite, with outdoor sitting area on a balcony. Very high standard of refurbishment.
Every so often, you are reminded that you are in a 3 star hotel. For a ski hotel, there is an absence of hooks for drying clothes (in the refurbished rooms at least). The boot room is not really big enough for everyone to use, certainly there were not enough overnight driers for boots, although locker space was ample.
A spa has recently been opened in the cellar area. Very modern and very good sauna, jacuzzi and steam room (the latter not yet working). Again, an absence of hooks meant it was difficult to store towels and robes down there.
We had to pay a deposit for a towel and robe for the spa for week. You cannot take your room's towels down. We had to dry the spa towels in our room. There was not a fresh supply each day. The internet (while free) can only be accessed by keying in instantly forgettable codes and passwords each time you wish to use it. The boot room has a timer switch the light which is set to a ridiculously short time, such that you are left in near darkness until someone resets it. It is also very poorly ventilated, leading to the inevitable "school changing room" smell.
These little things remind you that you are in a 3 star hotel, even though you are paying 4 star prices.
But the positives outweigh those negatives. The food in particular is worth the visit. It really is spectacular. The refurbished rooms are very comfortable. The hotel (although within easy walking distance of the lifts) is in a quiet location. There is no noise at night.
There is a 4 star hotel itching to break out here. Little things are holding it back.
An observation rather than a criticism. Not all of the staff speak good English. The waiting staff all did, but not all of the reception staff did. There was a slight hiccough when we booked through an agent (rather than directly) which might have been rather difficult to resolve if we had not been able to speak French. Nonetheless, everyone was very courteous, friendly and keen to assist as much as possible.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the suites, in particular a refurbished one. What we saw of the unmodernised ones (g...

With very reasonable pricing, this centrally located hotel cannot be beat.

And their restaurant, l'Antelier, is a must for fine dining in a cozy setting. Also very fairly priced. Don't miss it!
