“Stylish family run hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 8, 2012

We stayed here with 2 other families and had 6 adults and 5 children in total.
The public space was great, though very cramped, the dining room perfect.
Food excellent, though a simpler menu for small kids is probably a good idea and would save waste. Breakfast perfect.
Rooms, simple but very very poorly lit. Was hard to find anything in the gloom!
The bathrooms were petite to say the least and like all skiers we yearned for a bath after a day on the slopes.....not here, only a shower to be had.

Room Tip: Take a torch!

Standard but comfortable hotel accommodation but it's the people from the hotel (Michele, Frank, all staff) and Simply Morzine (advice, ski hosting, conversation) that really separates this from the rest. A+ service

We have just come back from the friendliest hotel my wife and I have ever stayed in. We found Hotel La Chaumiere via Tripadvisor as it rated it No. 1 in Morzine and the reviews were very positive. The owners of the hotel, Michelle and Frank could not have been more friendly and attentive. They really made us feel at home and went the extra mile to ensure you felt welcome. Beware of Frank's Gins and Bacardi's - they are the size of the local mountain! When we ski, we look for a comfortable hotel, with a nice atmosphere, a friendly bar with a fun atmosphere and good home cooked food. We are not looking for the Ritz Carlton for skiing but the hot tub at la Chaumiere was a lovely luxury and we had the best 'heat and ice experience' money could buy which was totally unexpected. If you want warmth, comfort, a fun friendly bar and a hot shower at the end of the day. La Chaumiere ticked every box and more.

The guys from Simply Morzine were excellent and matched the attentive nature of Michelle and Frank. Ed and Gibbo picked you up every morning and dropped you to the ski shop and collected you after skiing when you legs were killing you. Having said that, it was only a 5 minute walk to the ski shop. You don't get that level of service from the likes of Crystal etc. In the evening, they spent time with every guest to make sure you had a good day and everything was ok. Superb service and far better than a Rep from the traditional ski tour companies who don't know who you are and only see you when you got on the coach at the beginning and at the end of your holiday, but ask you to give them a good rating on their form. You don't have to do that with Ed and Gibbo because they are an excellent example of polite attentive guys, who care that you have a good time. If you want it, you could go with one of the guys for guided skiing on 3 days, which is really useful if you don't know your way around the resort.

If we could transport Hotel La Chaumiere, Michelle and Frank together with the Simply Morzine team to every ski resort we wanted to go to, it would be utopia. No hesitation to recommend this hotel and the Simply Morzine team to anyone.

Room Tip: We had a great room facing the slope, it makes such a difference when you wake up in the morning and...

Though a fair way from the centre of town and a decent ten minute walk to the gondola if you didn't want to risk the ski in from the back of the hotel, the hotel still has a lovely situation looking out over the valley. As many of the other reviews have noted, it is the staff that make this place a pleasure. They are unfailingly polite, helpful, warm and friendly. Our room was at the top of the hotel and had a delightful view from its small verandah. The room was comfortable but very basic and in no way exciting. But after a long day of skiing, the bed was comfy and the room was warm, which is about all you need. The showers were hot and never ran out - so that problem appears to have been fixed. The other guests were mainly english, which could be either a good thing or a bad thing, depending on your point of view ;-). Aside from that, the only thing that really lets this place down is the food, which, if you were to be very kind, is adequate. However they had a very nice Alsace pinot gris which helped. All things considered the place was outstanding value and we had a very enjoyable holiday.

I wasn't going to bother writing a review of this hotel as the experience wasn't great or horrible but I booked it because it got the No. 1 slot on Trip Advisor and I've stayed in Morzine many times and it it FAR FAR from the number one hotel/accommodation. Its clean and comfortable, tiny bar area, cold basic cave like boot room, the corridors are grim and awful, rooms ok and comfortable, shower rooms tiny tiny - it's ok, that's it. Staff were helpful, the lady owner wasn't that friendly, SImply Morzine very helpful. Most disappointingly the situation is rubbish. They do lay on transport but only during certain fairly limited hours so you're stuck in the hotel in the evening unless you want to risk breaking your neck walking down into town in the evening and then back up which is a trek and quite off putting. Personally I wouldn't go here again and if you want the number 1 go the Le Champs Fleuris.

Thank you for posting your feedback on your recent holiday at Hotel la Chaumiere with Simply Morzine.

We would like to point out that Trip Advisor is a 3rd party site for which we have no control over the rankings. We market ourselves as a small, family-run hotel offering comfortable accommodation at a fair price, with good food, personal service and a warm welcome. Whilst we are proud of the many complimentary reviews on Trip Advisor, we have never claimed to be “the number one” hotel in Morzine!

Over winter season 2011-12 Morzine has been fortunate enough to enjoy a cold and snowy winter with amazing piste conditions. A downside of such a cold winter is that like all ski resorts, the roads and pavements can be icy even when salted regularly by gritters.

An accurate description of the location and standard of accommodation is displayed on our website and booking literature. This information is clearly available to all prospective guests before deciding to make a booking with ourselves.

Our website has a map of Morzine and even a designated ‘location’ gallery showing aerial-view photos which give a good perspective of the hotel in relation to the piste, ski lifts & all local amenities. Guests are therefore aware of the ‘rubbish’ location before making a decision to book, even more so if they have stayed in Morzine many times.

From our viewpoint, we are very fortunate to be in a setting with beautiful views and free of outside noise & traffic. The hotel is located below one of the 3 ‘home runs’ back into Morzine. Therefore under normal snow conditions, guests who are of an intermediate level are able to ski/board right back to the hotel from within the Morzine/Les Gets ski area. The walk into Morzine’s lively & bustling centre is approximately 10 minutes. A pre & post skiing shuttle service is available as a free service for our guests.

Being a traditional alpine hotel and one of the oldest buildings in Morzine, our bedrooms have their own individual character and vary in shape and size. They are all described as having small ensuite facilities.

We are slowly but surely upgrading the hotel. Amongst other projects, there are plans to revamp the ‘grim & awful’ corridors.

We are sorry the reviewer was disappointed with her holiday accommodation.

The staff were friendly and the hotel very welcoming. The food was also very good. We thoroughly enjoyed our few days there. The shuttle bus operated by the hotel worked very well.

We stayed in a family room for one week and overall had a good experience.

The Simply Morzine guys were helpful: the pick-up from the airport was seamless, they brought us to Felix Ski for fittings, provided a shuttle for part of the day from the hotel to the ski shop, and generally were available for questions.

The hotel itself was basic but very acceptable. As others have pointed out, the staff (especially the owners) are friendly and very helpful. A few of the staff have limited English language skills but that wasn't a problem and we muddled through with broken French.

The food was pretty decent. Breakfast was comprehensive, with a decent selection of hot and cold options. Dinner was more restricted in terms of choice each evening but we always found something we liked. They also had more kid-friendly options.

The common area/bar is quite small given the number of guests but it was the only place Wi-Fi seemed to work. There was also a heated outdoor pool apres-ski, which the kids loved.

Our room was fairly basic - I didn't find the beds/pillows very comfortable and the bathroom was very small. We always had hot water, although we tended to come back from skiing earlier than most of the other guests so that the kids could go in the pool.

The location was fairly decent - a ten minute walk to the ski shops/restaurants, which wasn't great with young kids but the Simply Morzine team and the hotel itself do have the shuttle option.

The other guests when we were there seemed to be mainly British/Irish and were a mix of families/adults without kids.

Overall, it was a good experience. It's a basic hotel with lovely staff and pretty good food at a fairly reasonable price.
