We just returned from a weeks stay at the Ridge Hotel, we had read the previous reviews and went with an open mind as to what to expect. Go prepared for basic and you'll not be disappointed. The staff are excellent, friendly and helpful. The minibus shuttle to and from the Pleny lift daily is a bonus. The food is fine, not always as hot as it could be but have no complaints as to the quality and they would always provide an alternative if they could. Bar prices were expensive, make the most of happy hour. Afternoon tea is provided from 4.30 to 5.30, usually a welcome bit of cake and hot drink. The biggest pain is the lack of storage, a couple of coat hooks or extra hangers in the wardrobe would have made a big difference, although speaking with one of the staff she explained that they rent the hotel for the season and so are unable to make any changes to the furniture or fixtures. The bathroom is also on the small side, be prepared to squeeze onto wc and into shower! We hired a ski locker at Felix Ski in Morzine so we did not have to carry our stuff back and forward each day, this made the 15/20 minute walk into Morzine enjoyable, the kids especially loved it when the suspension bridge swayed as we walked over it!

We stayedin the Ridge in March when we went snowboarding in Morzine - yes people are right it is not in Morzine but you can see the border sign from the window so really???? The walk into Morzine is actually quite nice and refreshing and only takes about 15 minutes with snowboards! The hotel put on a bus every morning and evening to take you to the slopes and the local bus to take you to Avoriaz is literally on the doorstep so you really can't complain.
The food was amazing - although there was no choice (we went with Alpine elements) - what we got was so good we really didnt mind and the team there were able to offer alternatives if we didnt like something.
The rooms were small....but tbh we were on holiday to have some fun not stay in the room. They could have done with more storage oppertunities or drawer space as this was limited especially with 2 adults and their snowboard gear! Somewhere to hang your gear would have been good.
The staff there were excellent I can really not say a bad word about them.....nothign was too much trouble and they were all really friendly and helpful.
We would definatly stay here again

Family of four (2 adults 2 teens) without a mega budget, staying in Prolays & Ranfolly room which is in the annex.
The Prolays room is a big room, with massive sliding doors overlooking the mountain, with a big wrap round balcony.
The room obviously used to be a lounge of an apartment which has been altered slightly to include a twin bedded bedroom. It still has kitchen facility’s fridge, oven, hob & dishwasher (but no utensils / cutlery).
The Ranfolly is what used to be the bedroom for the apartment and is of average size with twin beds & ensuite.
The annex is where you have your evening meals and your breakfast, the main hotel building has the bar.
The breakfast has a fair selection of cereal’s and toast, jam, warm bread and fresh filter coffee on tap, you also get a hot cooked option each day of hash brown/sausage/bacon/egg (scrambled/fried)/ beans/ tomatoes.
The afternoon tea (served in the bar area) is instant coffee/ tea/ hot choc, cake and warm bread - as much as you like.
The evening meals - three courses - no option but we all enjoyed every meal, it was very good, (in fact the lack of choice made us all try and enjoy food we wouldn’t normally have ordered.)
The bar is well stocked and of average cost (€6.50 a pint) however there is a happy hour (and half)! between 17:30 – 19:00 and the pint cost €4.00). (We bought beer and soft drinks from the supermarket in Morzine and kept it in the fridge in our room).
Wednesday is the staff day off but the only thing you don’t get is an evening meal
The hotel and annex are clean and well kept, any problem (only one for us - a blocked shower tray plug) was swiftly sorted out without any hassle.
The ski hire shop is right next to the hotel, the bus stop for the Ardent lift (for Avoriaz area) stops outside the ski shop and takes about 10 - 15mins to get to the lift, the bus is every half an hour or so - easy, the hotel actually run a mini-bus for the Plenny lift (for the Lets Gets area) from 08:45 - 10:00 in the morning and then 16:00 -17:30 for the return journey, which is really good.
You can walk into Morzine which takes 10- 15 mins (15 – 20 in ski gear!) crossing a pedestrian suspension bridge (watch out its slippery!) which finishes at the Super Morzine lift (for the Morzine area), as long as it’s not really busy if you ask the driver of the minibus they will drop you there as well.
Overall we all had a really good holiday and I would without reserve recommend this accommodation and thank the staff for help making it a great holiday!

Room Tip: I think we had the best rooms in the hotel.

We went on a package with Alpine Elements.

This should be called a "Chalet Hotel" to help people set their expectations. As others have said think Travel Lodge (but with worse rooms). It is just outside Morzine as my photo shows, but is 6 minutes to the Super Morzine gondola and ten to the centre. The company quote 5 mins to the suspension bridge which is accurate - it takes another minute to cross the bridge. The hotel has good views across the valley. The public areas have nice art, tv, pool table etc - a real contrast to the rooms.

The rooms are very basic. This is not minimalist design. No lamps, only over head spot lights. The bathrooms are tiny - large people would struggle. The heating only just worked. The walls were thin and laminate flooring throughout made it noisy. Other reviewers complain about the light but there are shutters that block out all light.

We asked to change rooms as the one we had was poor - mouldy walls and curtains, radiator not working, noisy toilet and it was above the bar. The new room was "prepared" but beds were unchained. No attention to detail was a theme of our stay.

The food is ok, nothing special, some shortcuts were taken, eg brought in pastry cups. You are a bit quashed in the dinning room which was dark. The cutlery and glasses were always dirty and some chipped. Bread was plentiful but poorly presented. All food carried outside from another building. No choices, Breakfast was a shambles everyday - very little choice. Many things constantly ran out- eg coffee, juice, mugs. You could order cooked breakfasts sometimes they never arrived. Some yoghurts were out of date.

Staff very friendly but under trained. Very amateurish operation. Someone make them use trays! Something was dropped every night. They need a more experienced or professional manager to work on the details that a hotel nice.

They run a minibus to the lifts and there is a bus stop just by the hotel which takes you to a quiet gondola right in the heart of the slopes so is a good way of getting to the slopes quickly. There is an on site hire shop which I didn't use.

In short, more basic than what they charge for. Good for groups who don't care about the accommodation. I won't travel with them again.

i agree with most of the comments
after reading all the negative comments i have to say that i was surprised at just how good this place is, the staff were all excellent and couldn't do enough for us.
the food was excellent and nothing was to much bother for the young staff.
as a mature traveller i have been around a fair bit and have never felt the need to write a review before, but felt that these young people deserve credit for making sure that every one in the hotel had a great time, they worked so hard and were so friendly
i would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this hotel i have stayed in far worse and paid an allfull lot more then this place
the main reason to go here is for the skiing and trust me you will not be disappointed with the miles of slopes here

Clean hotel. Friendly young staff. Good meals.
Very impressed by the IGOSKI staff getting the ski lift passes whilst on route from the airport.
This enabled us to be on the slopes at 12.30. 4 hours on the first day.
Afternoon tea was a welcome pick me up.
On the less positive side. Soundproofing poor so late night returners will wake you up.
They advertise the slopes as 350 metres away. It is nowhere near that. It is half a mile away.750 metres minimum.
But for a last minute deal it was value for money.
Consider renting equipment closer to the slopes to allow you the chance to store it there and not having to bring it back

Room Tip: Ask ahead if you can have a room away from the party crowd if you want to sleep. But you are at the...

For the type of holiday that I wanted to book had to be cheap, good food, nice hotel, clean and close to the slopes.
I will start of saying that the room we stayed in the Zore, 7 man room, and it was the perfect size for our part of 5 students ages 19-21, but putting 2 more people into the room would get very cramped!
The room upon entry was big but due to it being top floor the roof was sloped causing a few bumped head's in the morning. The room was clean and the beds were really quite comfortable but only come in single causing a gap if you want to turn it into a makeshift double.
They could also do with some side tables as everything had to go onto the floor.
The shower was more than I bargained for, being really powerful and could get really hot if you can handle it, my only remark on the shower was it needed updating, there were black marks in the shower tray and in-between the tiles making it look dirty.
The room was really quiet and we couldn't hear anything from the other rooms around us but i could imagine that if you were below the Bar or the Restaurant room it could be quite loud.

The next topic was the food. Reading comments on TA i expected the worse, but after the first meal I had nothing but good remarks for the food, having a 3 course meal everyday (except wednesday) was so convenient (especially when its in the same building as the room).
The meals were very british which was good as being in France i thought it would be cheese and bread kind of meals. The meals vary from day to day and there wasn't much repetitiveness. If i had to improve the food I would say that it needed to be hotter. Due to the kitchen being in the other building the staff had to run it across and due to the cold i think that it did effect the temperature a bit but this isn't any fault to the staff there.
Honestly, the people commenting about the poor food are either way to ambitious considering the price you pay or they thought they could get away with a cheap holiday but ask for first class.

Onto the staff. Brilliant. They had great manners and were always making sure that we had everything we wanted (unless it was packed at dinner with tables of 10+ then it did get a little harder). The cleaners were really nice and when we asked for more towels or bathroom bits we got them as soon as they cleaned the room.
There was one staff manager that expected his staff to put in 100% while he just about put in 50%, I believe the manager of the Ski shop, other people also mentioned on how grumpy he was.

The shuttle is where it really starts scrapping the bottom. The main Driver, James was a great guy, helped with the skis and boards and dropped us off at the slopes as near as he could.
When we were stuck behind two groups of 10 people+ he worked past the 5.30 cut off to pick us up which was great of him. But when there was a different driver (the ski shop manager) well this is where the 50% really shows. We arrived at the pick up point at 5.05/5.10 with 20 minutes till the shuttle stops, we waited 30/40 minutes until we decided to walk back to the hotel (20minute walk in ski boots) and saw the manager in the shop not doing a lot although he was meant to be running the shuttle. Not impressed.

To summarise, everything broke our expectations by a long shot only to be brought down by one lazy and grumpy manager!
I would highly recommend this hotel as its really good and for what you pay makes it even a better deal! One small note the slopes aren't 400m away, more like 600m over the bridge then that only get you to Super-Morzine.

Things to know.
1. Use the free train ride to get too Plenny slopes (saves a walk)
2. Make sure you get the shuttle early as its a LONG walk at the end of the day!
3. Take the local bus *M* for a quicker route to Avoriaz.
4. Prepare for the first day arrivals and the rush at the ski shop for boots and skis.
5. Remember to book your table time for dinner.
6. Ask about the cheaper local shops as the ones we were shown were quite expensive.

Room Tip: Get rooms that aren't above the Bar or the Restaurant
