Ignore some of the more negative reviews, this place is great in the summer. Plenty to do for families. Aquariaz (swimming pool) is fab, loads of great mountain walks, organised activities for kids, very popular for mountain biking. We stayed in one of the Pierre and Vacances apartments which was great.

Avoriaz is a purpose built resort and the buildings appear very strange from the outside. Plenty of activities for all ages and the scenery is beautiful.

This review is for the ski area. We have not been to the new swimming pool that is pictured. The skiing here is excellent. The whole are of Portes du Soleil is one of the biggest in Europe. It is all accessible form Avoriaz. The buildings in the town are indeed weird as they are supposed to mimic cliffs. It is a fantastic ski area, not sure why some people have slammed it as being for beginners. That is simply untrue.

We have been skiing for 30 years or more both with and before having children with large groups of friends from total beginners to real veterans. Nobody is short of skiing here. By all means use the great restaurants and ski park, slopes and NEW lifts in Avoriaz, but stay down in Morzine, which is a short ski/lift away. the ski bus runs round the ski lifts free with a ski pass and the town of Morzine is very easy to walk around. We go back and back here. It is very hard to beat. We have never queued for more than a couple of minutes for lifts.

The skiable area stretches through to Switzerland for miles, and Avoriaz is pretty snow sure, even if Les Gets and Morzine are struggling. We have been for Christmas, Easter, summer biking and avoid half term as with all French resorts, the prices go through the roof. Just looking at our 8th or 9th holiday there. Just come back from a summer holiday in Morzine. We have never met anyone who was not thrilled with the skiing here, contrary to some of the reviews I have just read. I am quite shocked really.

Outdated buildings that attempt to reflect modern taste, are now mostly rotting or generally unattractive and certainly out if place on the peak of a mountain. In Summer it's quite desolate, but the Aquariaz swimming facility is suffice to entertain. In Winter it's much more lively, however the Ski slopes are uninteresting and the Ski school is unreliable and unprofessional. The staff are either poorly trained or just care little for the visitors and more on the bulge in their wallet. (especially the cable cart operators.) Overall wouldn't recommend, maybe the pool is worth a visit.

It is a beginner resort and that is probably why the English go there. Very crowded and takes a lot of time to find the quiet spots. Seems most people are beginners and not use to being at a ski resort to ski, so very noisy and lots of silly people doing silly things. Even find some people laying forks and knifes on a run thinking it would be funny to ruin someone's equipment. Funny watching people walk down runs because they were too steep for them, never seen before until I came here. Watch out for beginners who think they are good and hit the blue runs acting like they are professionals and running over beginners. When you go to the red or higher runs will have plenty of obsticles to avoid due to beginners being way out of there skill levels. People sliding and taking up the entire runs. ESP, the French ski school tries to act like they are gods and take over the runs and lifts. Sometimes have to wait 20 minutes on a lift because they are so disorganized. Not a place for real ski and snowboards and add the French attitude and the English beginners and you got a terrible resort.
