A truly exceptional chalet experience! From the moment we arrived, our hosts Kat, Al, Seb and Vix did everything possible to ensure we had a great holiday. Our bedroom and large bathroom were very comfortable and there were extra amenities such as fresh fluffy towels every day, bath robes, and slippers. The open plan area upstairs - kitchen, dining room and lounge with a crackling wood fire - made a wonderful gathering point even beyond meal times. And I cannot praise Kat's cooking highly enough!! Each day starts with continental breakfast and a hot breakfast option such as blueberry pancakes or smoked salmon scrambled eggs, and each afternoon there is freshly baked cake. All of this is topped by a five course gourmet meal every night - picture Bib Gourmand food in a warm and relaxed setting. To give you a little taste, this was last Friday's meal: Puff pastry canapes by the fire, followed by roasted red pepper tarte tatin with homemade parmesan ice cream as a starter, and perfectly roasted breast of duck with thyme mashed potatoes and cabbage for our main course. Dessert was "three variations of plum": Plum creme brule, plum and red wine sorbet, and warm plum cake. After dessert, a cheese course with crackers and fruit is served in the living room. And Alikat's excellent house wines, white or red, are available at no extra charge. I could go on and on...
In terms of the location, Alikats is situated about 5 min from Avoriaz/Ardent and 5 min from Morzine/Le Pleney, so that you have a choice of where you want to ski each day. One of the staff will drive you to the slopes at your required time. To be fair, I was a bit worried initially about staying off-piste, seeing as it was our four-year-old son's first ski trip and we had no idea how long it would take to get him out of the house each day, and when he would get tired and want to come back! But the two-hour transfer windows in the mornings and in the afternoons are ample, and on top of this, Seb and Vix went out of their way to make sure we were able to leave later or come back earlier if we needed to (although I don't know if this is possible when the chalet is fully booked).
If you are looking for the perfect chalet stay in the Morzine-Avoriaz area - I cannot recommend Alikats highly enough. We normally go skiing with a very large group of people, which for various reasons didn't happen this year. If it doesn't next year? We are definitely going back to Alikats!!
