“Not Just a Ski Chalet, This is a Chilly Powder Ski Chalet.....”
Reviewed February 6, 2011

A fantastic, wonderful chalet with one of the best atmospheres going; relaxed for single or group travelers looking for fast access to the slopes, or families in need of a roomy base, all fit well into this professional homely house owned by Francesca & Paul.
If you have high social expectations you will enjoy the fabulous food, always with a twist on the norm to keep you contemplating the following evenings possibilities!
A stunning library complements the interior with quite areas if you need to escape. A hot tub outside on the edge of the piste, sauna, massage and a small in-obtrusive bar with character all add to the feeling of a relaxed open house.
Return ? - you bet, as the location, food, facilities and professional staff make this a perfect trip without compare. Look for the Chamois on the slopes above you, tap into the huge knowledge and skills of the Chalet Staff (Amie is world class in getting everything organised) and enjoy a stay beyond expectation.
If M&S did Ski Chalets, this would be it!

We returned to Chilly Powder for the 5th time this month. I've reviewed it before, but it's always worth updating it, as things can change....
In fact, things were pretty much the same - friendly and efficient staff (they had memorised everyone's names within a day or two - pretty impressive as there were well over 40 of us!), fantastic food, great skiing and children's lessons (one of our children had only one other child in his ski group), homely and welcoming atmosphere, etc etc ....
I think the main changes this year were that the food was even better than previously - which was actually quite hard to believe! The breakfast menu has been extended to include crepes daily, as well as the hot option (which varied from bacon, eggs and beans to scrambled egg and smoked salmon, omlettes etc) and an extensive buffet of cereals, pastries, bread, yoghurt, cheese, ham etc. The kids couldn't believe their luck - pancakes for breakfast every day!
Also the afternoon tea has been extended to include a savoury option and bread, butter and jam, as well as a cake. Several families missed lunch altogether and had a late cooked breakfast, then skied all day until 4.30, did the home run (which literally finishes at the hot-tub) and grabbed some afternoon tea which saw them through until the amazing 4 course dinner at 8pm. We were too greedy, however...
So basically - great family chalet/hotel, the food is amazing, the childcare second to none, there's free wi-fi, games consoles, a pool table and sky TV if you want it, and it's ski in, with less than a 2 min walk to the cable car up to Avoriaz - what more could you want?

Our third consecutive visit. Still fantastic. Kids loved it. Children were 3 and 4 on our first visit and now 5 and 6. The chalet location is perfect for skiing in Avoriaz. The creche drop off/pick up service is ideal as all the kids are together having fun and they don't even notice you are not with them. As keen skiers, it means we can ski all day without worrying whether or not the children are happy. The children are grouped with other children in the chalet according to ability and they have private ESF instruction ensuring small groups and good progression over the week. Their skis are left in Avoriaz so they don't even have to carry them!
The chalet itself is warm and welcoming with lovely staff and delicious food. You can choose your room when you book and they have different room combinations to suit different family sizes.
I would highly recommend this company, they are a very honest family owned business who go out of their way to ensure you have a fantastic, hassle free holiday.

Chilly Powder have a small number of chalets in the local area - we stayed in the Au Coin du Feu, which is the largest one - on a snowboarding/skiing trip and would highly recommend it to others.

It's certainly bigger than what you might expect from a traditional 'chalet' hence it's description of Chalet/Hotel - the target audience is most definitely families, although we were there on our own and the large amount of kids around the place was never an issue as the meal-times are kept very separate (which was appreciated !). If you want a kid-free place to stay, then you should probably look elsewhere.....

The location is v.convenient - very close (about 2 mins walk, even in ski boots) to the main cable car that takes you up into the centre of Avoriaz. There's also a red run down from above that means any intermediates could ride all the way virtually to the back door of the chalet, although it can get really mogully. There's not much else going on in the immediate vicinity as the local hamlet is fairly quiet - you'll need to go up to Avoriaz or down to Morzine if you want busy bars.....

The food was exceptionally good - several notches up from ski hotel food and definitely up there with the best I've ever had on a skiing holiday. They have their own bar although it is quite small relative to the number of people that can be accommodated, only a minor criticism though.

Many of the bedrooms are individually themed - on checking in our room had mistakenly been allocated elsewhere, but this was quickly rectified and we were given an alternative room that we were very happy with. Had we arrived later in the day this might have been a bit more tricky to resolve.......The overall condition of the bedrooms was high, although the standard-sized rooms are not the largest to be honest. Our room had a shower only, but this wasn't a problem for us as you could relax your weary ski legs in the outdoor hot-tub.

The staff were excellent - one or both of the owners were present every day, but not in your face, and Amie (Manager) was very helpful and knowledgeable about the local area. They had nice touches like the fact the bar staff will even bring drinks out to the hot-tub for you. Also, the serving staff knew everyone's names by the 2nd day which was an impressive feat of recall ! One suggested area of improvement would be related to providing more info on which restaurants to aim for (or avoid!) on the chalet staff's night off.

In summary, this won't be a cheap skiing holiday (thinking with winter travellers in mind) but it is reasonable value for money, considering all of the above. We've already booked to return in April 2011 with my 7 year old daughter and we can't wait.

I have stayed at Chilly Powder in the winter to some much loved skiing. It is a beautiful chalet and Paul, Francessca, Amie and their staff are great hosts and have always treated us as their friends. The chalet was also a great place to stay during the summer as we had gone with some friends to do some activities in Morzine. We stayed on a half board basis, fab breakfast in the sunshine with great views, evening meal was excellent and cocktails in the bar after just finished the evening off perfectly. I would recommend this chalet for winter and summer holiday. It is a truely great place.

Stayed at Au Coin de Feu with my friends who were getting married and their wedding group of 50! I can honestly say we all had such an amazing time taking in the beautiful panoramic views, going for hikes roiund stunning lakes and then chilling out by the hot tub with drinks or stuffing our faces on the delicious food! I was really impressed that the vegetarian options were just as varied and beautiful looking as the rest of the food. The rooms were lovely and nicely put together and in fact the whole chalet was a pleasure to be in in terms of atmosphere and general asthetic pleasure! The owners Paul and Francesca were friendly, accomodating and welcoming; Amie the events manager was extremely helpful and friendly, and the rest of the staff were really pleasant, professional and always ready to help or answer any questions. Hats off to everyone for catering for 50 for four days! If I could go back again I would.
