Riders Refuge - Chalet Les Pistes

The first thing to note about Chalet Deffert is how close it is to the Pleney lifts which serve the Morzine pistes, including those leading over into Les Gets. Just look at either the TripAdvisor photo or the snowy equivalent on the Riders Refuge website and the majority if the right of the picture is dominated by the nearest slopes (Red "Le Stade" and Blue "Piste B").

You're basically less than 100 from both a cable car and chairlift to start your day. You're also about the same from the ESF school (including Piou Piou "nursery" and Children's Garden) and nursery slopes. And when skiing isn't on your agenda, you're about the same distance from the centre of town, with even more restaurants, cafes and bars than those on your doorstep.

I cannot think of a better location. In fact, I've looked and I believe it is easily the best located chalet in Morzine.

The chalet itself is over 4 floors, with two bedrooms, ideal for children sharing, on the top (2nd) floor and three on the first floor. In the basement is another bedroom, next to the sauna; though the main function of the basement is the kit/drying room to stack skis and dry jackets etc (including 12 pair boot dryer).

On the ground floor is the living room and kitchen/dining area. The living room looks small in the photos and was my greatest concern before our visit. However, its bigger and certainly more practical than it looks and was very comfortable for 3 families.

And so to the dining room. As we did at 19:00 every night (except Wednesday) to be treated by our chalet hosts, Greg and Suz, to a delicious 3 course meal with wine. With Greg and Suz having offered to feed the children at 18:00, it was great to relax with great food, wine and company to plan for the next day.

This was my first experience of a catered chalet and after such excellent service I find it hard to believe that I could go back to self catering or hotels.

The support by Jono and Jill also made booking and planning really easy; answering my many questions in the weeks leading up to the holiday. Transfers from Geneva were also hassle free.

All in all, great service and support from the Riders Refuge team, with a great chalet (Deffert) in an unbelievable location.

As a group of 12 friends we stayed at Chalet Deffert in Jan 2013, the location is excellent with easy access to the ski lifts, The food in the chalet that is prepared and served by Suz & Greg is first class, they are perfect hosts and make you very welcome, I have no hesitation in recommending this Chalet to stay for a good holiday.

As a group of 3 families (6 adults, 5 children) we spent a truly wonderful and unforgettable week from 9 to 16 February 2013 at Riders Refuge Chalet Deffert in Morzine. It’s location is just superb, right in the centre of this friendly holiday place and only very short walks away from the Pleney bubble lift, the ESF (Ecole français de ski) and the town’s restaurants, cafés and shops. The weather covered the whole spectrum from deep blue sky and sunshine to heavy snowfalls and fog. Loads of snow and perfectly prepared slopes guaranteed an amazing and extraordinary skiing pleasure for adults and children alike.

And then there were Suse and Greg, our perfect hosts at the chalet. A truly charming couple – always kind, always helpful, always smiling, always ready for a chat and a laugh. And what great chefs they are! Hearty breakfasts, mouth watering dinners, delicious homemade cakes and pastries in the afternoon and little surprises such as tasty amuse bouches in the evening. We felt special and pampered throughout our stay.

We decided to come back to Morzine and Chalet Deffert next year for another ski holiday. And this is not just because of the resort itself, the personalised ski hire thanks to Doorstep Skis or the comfortable, cosy, warm and convenient character of the chalet. To a very large extent this has to do with the presence of Suse and Greg. A big thank you to both of you, we look forward to seeing you in February 2014.

Three families enjoyed a fabulous break a Chalet Deffert, a chilled company with high standards that made our first ski break with the wee ones, a joy! The atmosphere, the food prepared by Suz and Greg was 5* with the wine flowing. Morzine is a beautiful resort and having done a fair bit of skiing I have never come across such great people. The chalet being situated 5 minutes walk from the lift makes all the difference...especially with the children. ESF ski school was brilliant aswell as the Doorstep ski hire. We'll be back! Cheers

Chalet Deffert, what can I say, its position is perfect, one minute walk to the slopes and in the centre of Morzine, so very handy for a wander into town between afternoon tea and your evening meal. The ski hire shop is only a few doors down the road and you can store your gear in the chalet in the special ski store with heated boot warmers. Greg and Suse were our hosts, they came in every day and provided breakfast for us all, cleaned the chalet while we were out and we returned to afternoon tea all laid out. Our evening meal was served up every night apart from Wednesday when our hosts had the day off, not that we would starve as there is plenty of choice of restaurants to eat in Morzine. The chalet was kept immaculately clean and there seemed to be an endless supply of hot water and red wine! (there were 12 of us in our party so the chalet was fully booked). To keep the kids entertained there was a Wii and loads of films to watch in case the weather is bad and you can't get on to the slopes. All in all an excellent place to stay and have a really fun ski holiday

I think other than the location, what really made my stay was how friendly Greg and Suse were and how amazing their cooking was. I found it hard to just sit back and let them do everything but they insisted on catering to my needs! Simply fantastic.
