Very good small hotel. Our room was the basic room and small but very clean and pleasant. Car parking available which was good as we had a car full of gear. Modern interior and very pleasant female staff. We walked into Royan along the coast road and it took about 45 minutes. The market there is great, buy lunch and eat it with a drink at the Bar de Marche just outside.

At the back of the hotel is a separate small natural stone building that holds family apartments. We stayed in the one away from the road, it has it's own secluded patio with wooden table and chairs an a cheerful yellow parasol. The small living room has a cupboard style kitchenette, and entrance to the shower room. There are 2 decent single beds. A separate master bed room. Both rooms have a quiet and separate airco's; the condenser ventilators are mounted to the back of the building thus no noise at all from them. The apartment has a large private parking space too! A very kind receptionist, we got 4 cocktail vouchers and a special diner deal at the Casino restaurant - had a good meal and pleasant service, great beach view at incredible value for money.
We really enjoyed the family style beach and art Deco hotel facades, the well behaved public and the small stroll boulevard.
There is a bakery close by at the boulevard, as well as a 8-8 mini market.

What a brilliant location, particularly the sea facing rooms. We didn't suffer from traffic noise on a particularly busy weekend. I wouldn't want to be facing the back of the hotel. Car parking great, staff friendly, breakfasts good value. No lift so beware if you are unable to climb stairs. This is not a five star hotel, but it is honest value for money in a great location. We will return.

Room tip: Sea facing rooms are by far the best with a wonderful view along the beach. No lift so ground floor rooms only if you aren't able to easily climb stairs. Second floor would be a struggle with luggage.

Went for a one night stay and to spend two days in Royan. The hotel is very charming with nice sea view rooms. The view is of Pontaillac beach and not the main beaches at Royan. Pontaillac is a little suburb of Royan. It is a fair walk from Royan town centre - half an hour of hoofing along the main road or longer if you take the coast route. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. The room was small but the balcony was large and overlooked the main surf beach where we could watch the surfers till dark. A nice swimming beach or good for sunbathing/walking. Pontaillac has some lovely restaurants. Most were open even in October. All price ranges of restaurants and a few bars.
Casino de Royan is great - not snooty but rather dated. Lots of slot machines and a few tables to play. It was quiet when we went and we really enjoyed it! Staff were welcoming and we used our free cocktail vouchers from the hotel. The cocktails were very good! All in all Pontaillac has more charm than Royan for an out of season break. The hotel bathroom was very small but the shower was very powerful and refreshing. Breakfast was very generous. One downside - the bed was like concrete and we both woke up feeling sore from that - pity!

Room tip: Pay for a sea view - it was worth it.

The hotel is situated a kilometre or so from Royan at Pontaillac. This is in our opinion the nicest part of Royan. The actual centre of Royan is a bit tacky. The hotel has a great location overlooking the beach and the casino and the rooms at the front have stunning views over the bay. The hotel staff were extremely helpful.
However the hotel is situated alongside a small roundabout on the hill leaving Pontaillac and there is a considerable amount of traffic noise as the cars (and especially the motorbikes) put there foot down at the start of the hill. The casino and the hospital down the road generate quite a lot of traffic at night so you cannot have the balcony doors open. It was really hot at the end of June and so the niggts wree pretty miserable - you either had to choose between the traffic noise or the heat. The room had neither AC or a fan. I ended up having to buy a fan to make the nights bearable.
Breakfast could be taken in the dining room or delivered to the room but it was not really worth the money. 7 euros for the usual diabetic nightmare of coffee, croissants and jam.
During our stay at this hotel, guests were from the UK, Germany, Scandinavia, Holland, as well as France. Would it really kill them to have one english speaking channel on TV?
