“Lovely food - pity about the waiting staff!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2012

We had a lovely table at the window. The starters and mains were very good but the desserts were pretty disappointing. There was nobody to welcome us at the door or to greet us when we came in.
The waitress who took our order forgot to offer us an aperitif and wanted to take our food order just a couple of minutes after we sat down. Many of the waiting staff looked bored. Ours wasn't able to make eye contact with us and corrected our French unsmilingly!

When the fish arrived - it was lovely! The menu for 26.50 Euros was good value. With such a big choice of restaurants in Royan, I don't think we would rush back. The restaurant lacks atmosphere and tables turn over a lot in the evening.

“Outstanding”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2012

Le Petit Bouchon is a little gem situated amongst many tourist oriented restaurants straight at the Marina on the lower promenade. It looks attractive on the outside with an inviting display of the 20 and 26 euro three course menus on a blackboard ... No Tripadvisor emblem yet in the window (this should change now that they are nr 1 in Royan as I noticed before starting to write this review - the very helpful german waitress (or perhaps owner) who mentioned they got many customers through the Tripadvisor ranking will be proud of this, yesterday they were still ranked #2 ;-) but well deserved indeed.

Not having made a reservation we were seated at the back near the kitchen which actually was not too bad, gave a chance to admire many of the very pretty dishes passing by. We took the 19,90 euro three course which really was a bargain for this quality food. The main dish was an "humeur du chef" ie. Catch of the day Merlu white fish fried on the skin on top of an incredible litle stack of rice and carrot ... Simple but outstandingly delicious. We should also mention the homemade Icecreams ip. The salty caramel which was eyewateringly nice with a simple but effective Les Maines demi-sec white Bordeaux.

Thorougjly recommended also for very pleasant fast and helpful service.

“At last but not least...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 22, 2012

After eating at several 'restaurants' at the beach area (where they all served very mediocre to bad food9, we finally found a place worth bragging of. 'Le petit bouchon' is a cosy fish restaurant by the harbour, a bit out of sight actually. We immediately knew we had hit the right spot when we realised a lot of the other arriving clients had reservations.

The food was in one word: amazing! The combinations the chef used were that of the real ,haute cuisine'. The fish and all other ingredients were as fresh as can be, and all for a very reasonable price ( 90€ for 2 persons including wine, coffee and cognac!)
So if you want to taste the ocean in a cosy environment, 'Le petit Bouchon* is definately recommended! Note that me and my girlfriend are no proffesional foodcritics, but we do know what we are talking about! ;)
