“Basic but acceptable hotel for a one night stay!”
Reviewed June 24, 2012

We used this hotel whilst travelling through France to the Channel Ports and found it to be perfectly acceptable. Reception staff were pleasant and accommodating, the room was of the normal Ibis standard and size (not wonderful but OK), clean with a comfortable bed. The "social areas" ie bar; were somewhat basic but we had been travelling, were tired and a glass in the hand is worth two in the imagination! Although located at the side of a busy dual carriageway and across the road from a popular venue (Parc des Expos Zenith) noise levels and disruption were acceptable. The restaurant area of the hotel wasn't particularly appealing and we therefore looked elsewhere for our evening meal. Fortunately, we didn't need to look too far and discovered a very acceptable restaurant nearby (Le Chamois)! The "all inclusive" buffet breakfast was adequate. There is a secure parking area at the rear of the hotel. I would certainly use this hotel again in the future.

The hotel was well placed for my onward journey the following day. I decided not to stay for breakfast, it didn't look exciting enough.
We were on the motorway /autoroute within minutes the following morning, just perfect.

My husband and I went on an organised coach trip to the Monet Gardens at the end of September and stayed at this hotel. Personally I wouldn't have chosen to stay there but we had no choice. If you take your own vehicle there is secure, free parking at the side of the hotel. I don't know how much the rooms cost as this was in the price we paid for the trip. Even though the hotel is close to the road, which is busy, we slept very well.

Unfortunately it is really out on a limb - with nothing to do, but whilst it is VERY basic, the rooms, though very small, were really clean and breakfast very good. There was supposed to be a limited restaurant menu for dinner but we didn't come across it; so we ate out. Beware, eating out in France is much more expensive than in the UK.

We took the local bus, No 7, which stops outside the hotel, into Rouen at a cost of 1.5 Euros each, each way which is good value considering our tour operator wanted 10 Euros each for the same trip. Rouen is lovely. We went on the little train, which stops outside the Cathedral, and takes you around the streets and past the sights and has commentary in both English and French.

Eating out:

After reading reviews on Trip Advisor, on the first evening we ate at the Campanile restaurant next door but were very disappointed. What we had was expensive and not well cooked. I had taken my French phrase book with me and tried my best to make myself undestood but the waitress didn't seem to understand what we wanted, even when I pointed it out to her in my book.

The next evening we walked a little further, turned right out of the hotel and walked for about 10 minutes. On the left hand side of the road is the Courtepaille grill which was better.

The remaining two evenings we ate at the LeChamois restaurant which is right next door to the hotel - food was more expensive there but very good. The crepes, both savoury and sweet were really delicious, as are the salads.

If you ask at the hotel reception, they will give you discount vouchers for both the Courtepaille grill and the LeChamois restaurant.

Whilst we were there we visited beautiful Honfleur and the Monet Gardens were fabulous - even at this time of year.

The hotel is fine but from our point of view it would be easier witha restaurant available at the weekend for full meals. The only other problem we have encountered over the years is when there are a group of young performers in who disturb sleep late at night
