“The worst food we had en France”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

We popped in here as it was the only place next to the Ibis. We won't do that again, the McDonald's next door has to be a better option. The place is OK in itself (the toilet was very clean) but the food was, frankly, horrible. Too much grease, everything dark with overcooking, my crepe with beef was really inedible. And this for nearly £50! The beers were good though, nice and cold (at £7 a pint they should be). So, a conclusion - poor quality cooking, catering for a trapped market, overpriced. Go to McDonald's.

“Great Steaks”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

We used this restaurant as the Ibis nearby did not have a resturant. The ambiance of the restaurant was really nice and the menu was interesting and unusual. Our visit was in December and there was a big log fire - on which our steaks werte cooked ! It was not inexpensive but we really enjoyed our visit and will definately go back.

“ReturnVisit”
Reviewed October 29, 2012

My previous review was done when the restaurant was not very busy. This time the restaurant was nearly full (over 200 covers) due to an event at the Parc Zenith. We were found a seat and within 30 minutes served an aperitif and then the main meal, so cannot complain about the service as it was as prompt as possible. The food quality was excellent and served hot. It had a very good atmosphere and we were in view of the open wood fire which is also used for cooking steaks etc. The one downside is the cost as I tend to agree with other contributers that is more pricy about 2/3 euros more. But the menu has a very big choice much more than the normal for a french restaurant. With traditional selections and a good variety of Alpine food, it's speciality. Talking to other customers they were happy with food they recieved and the service but agreed it was more expensive, although for a local couple it was there 3rd visit!

“Surprised”
Reviewed August 11, 2012

Having read these reviews before our visit I found the restaurant very good and not a bit like some of your recent reviews. We were staying at Etap (over Road) so the easy choice. We were given a choice of inside or out and we chose outside, partly glass covered and a good ambience. The restaurant is all wood and has very attractive surroundings. The menu had a large and varied choice, I ordered a steak and my wife a galette St Jacques. Then arrived a bowl of mixed nuts and amuse bouche with the aperitif, very tasty small chunks of savoury galette. The service was very good gave us time to have a slow aperitif after a 200 mile journey. My steak was very tasty, slightly tough in the normal french fashion with plenty of good chips and they asked me if I would like some more, very unusual in france! My wife's galette was excellent, lots of scallops in a very well balanced and tasty sauce. The only slight down side is that the price was about 2 euros more than you would expect to pay for the same meal in some other places. But we live in a tourist area of the Dordogne and the prices were similar to that area and we have seen prices rise in the last year. We were very happy with the overall experience and will go there again on our next stop over in Rouen. Maybe 1 or 2 visits will give a more balanced review.

“Surprisingly good!”
Reviewed June 24, 2012

We were travelling through Normandy en route back to the Channel Ports and spending a night in Rouen when we chanced upon "Le Chamois". It is located alongside a busy dual carriageway close to a popular venue (Zenith Arena) but has a surprisingly pleasing and welcoming atmosphere. There are a choice of seating locations including interior, exterior and exterior with option of weather protection. The staff were pleasant, attentive and professional. The food was at once plentiful and superbly cooked. I had a wonderfully cooked steak which melted in the mouth with delightfully surprising undertones of flavour whilsy my wife went "off menu" with a beautifully cooked and generously proportioned grilled fish! Other courses and accompaniments were equally enjoyable. A very enjoyable experience overall.
