We stayed at Chapeau Melon for about 5 days and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Brian and Sandra are really friendly hosts and are happy to help whenever. We stayed in a studio, however there is also a larger apartment which you can rent. The studios are really charming with comfortable modern furniture but still have original features like old wooden beams, which give a really French countryside feeling. The enclosed balcony/ french doors have a beautiful view of the river Dordogne and the ancient bridge which crosses it. This bridge is lit up at night in the arches and reflects off the water which looks fantastic. The on site restaurant had a great choice of food, ranging from traditional French cuisine as well as typical English dishes, and were all delicious. The reasonable prices and excellent quality of the food made dining in an easy choice! The ‘jolie’ town of Souillic has a brilliant location for exploring the many attractions such as the underground river and the enormous caves of Padirac, which were both breathtaking. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it for a relaxed and enjoyable trip to the Dordogne.

We had a very happy stay here in October 09 on a leisurely motoring holiday from Bilbao to Calais. Le Chapeau Melon is a family-run restaurant with a few well-equipped rooms offering spacious and thoughtful accommodation. As well as a comfortable bed and shower room, our "studio" had a comfortable seating area, a table and chairs, and equipment to make hot drinks as well as a microwave oven so we could rustle up a meal if we wanted to. We enjoyed morning croissants bought from the excellent local bakery (within easy walking distance along the river), and buying food from the local markets. We ate twice in this excellent restaurant and particularly recommend the local-style potatoes and confit du canard. The restaurant also offers a great choice of pizza (cooked in a wood-fired oven) which we didn't try, but would appeal to anyone who wants a rest from French cuisine! Souillac is a good base from which to explore this very pretty area of France - we really loved visiting Sarlat, Rocamadour, Castlenau, Domme and Beynac which are all within an easy drive. The food in this region is terrific. Look out for caramel covered walnuts, superlative pate foie gras and sweet Montbazillac wine. Brian and the team at Le Chapeau Melon speak English (Le Chapeau Melon means bowler hat) and were very helpful in suggesting local places to visit and where to find the best food markets. The location is just off the main road through Souillac right on the banks of the river Dordogne. The views are stunning!

We were the first guests at the Chapeau Melons new studios, and received a lovely warm welcome from the English owners.
The studio was spacious and comfortable with fantastic views of the Dordogne and beyond. The room had a fridge, kettle etc so we could make breakfast when we were ready - we weren't tempted to make other meals as they have a wonderful restaurant!
Only 1 or 2 very minor teething problems (more hooks in bathroom etc) to make stay perfect . We hope to return in the future with our parents who love this part of France.
