“Exceeded Expectations”
Reviewed November 15, 2013

Something of an oasis in this dusty little town. We got a warm welcome and were the only guests the night we stayed in one of the thatch-roofed rooms. It was large, clean and simple with en-suite shower, fridge and air-con. White Lady is actually quite a big set-up with camping as well as B&B and is attractively laid out. Breakfast is taken in an outdoor thatched 'lapa' complete with full kitchen. The food was very good, a buffet plus eggs, bacon etc., far exceeding expectations. No real reason to visit Uis other than as a stopover to break a longer journey or to see the nearby Brandenberg 'White Lady' rock paintings. White Lady does the job it is designed to do very well.

we spent one night on the white lady campground on our Namibia tour - it's a very beautiful spot reasonably close to the white lady painting. the site is spacious and was almost empty when we were there. the sanitary facilities are more on the ok end - a light is clearly missing in the bathrooms. the warm water in the morning, however, was very much appreciated!

we had breakfast and dinner at the lodge restaurant which was nice but not exceptional. the lodge garden though is extremely well kept and a beautiful place to be for that obligatory sundowner drink!

all staff was very friendly and helpful and we'd be happy to return some day!

Analene is a great hostess and phoned to find us when we did not arrive late afternoon. After a great breakfast she showed us around and told us about the history of Uis and more....such a darling! The rooms are neat and there is a bath and freezer in every room. Well kept and tidy. I would recommend this b&b to everyone passing by! The camping site has its own oasis and the gardener has knowledge of all the semi precious stones of the area! What more do you need? Great food, nice rooms, great people and history all in one!

Uis was once a thriving mining town, but since the mine is closed, it is bleeding dry. Lifeless, resignation, depressing, lethargy, are the words that come to mind when I think back.
Same atmosphere at the White Lady BB. The reception was abandoned. We had to look for someone who could tell us where to go. After a while we were noticed by a friendly lady in an apron. She told us that we could drive to the back and pick any site: there were no other guests that day.
The campground is in a courtyard with a pool in the middle and surrounded by a dozen small sites. In the back is the sanitary block and a terrace bar that is now used to store all sorts of material. The chairs and sofas are missing some shelves or have somewhere a hole that doesn't belong there: faded glory also here. Unfortunately, as mentioned before, we were the only guests (no one in the lodges either) and so we couldn’t order dinner. Therefore we were advised to go the restaurant in town, just to find out they weren’t open.
It was all clean and well cared though: showers, toilets, pool, no comments on them. All sites had an power outlet and a braai, no water tap.
It's probably not fair, they may find it difficult to keep their heads above water in such a dull place, but the consideration could be made to find a more appropriate location in the vicinity or close the camp site and focus on the lodges. They looked nice and pretty.

We spent one night at the White Lady B&B and stayed in teh cabins. Our rooms were a considerable distance from the main lodge but the night time walk back to our cabins was fun using a torch for light. The resort facilities were very nice the landscaping amazing for being in a desert, and the red rocks behind the resort were very fun to scramble up to the top for a great view. Food for dinner was Kudu and it was excellent. We went for a hike to the White Lady Pictographs and enjoyed the hike, the glyphs, and speaking with our SAN speaking guide, who also spoke excellent English. We saw Jackels and a few Hyrax but there were no close by desert elephants so we did not get to see them. All in all a very nice place with good service and food.

Uis is a desolate place with not much going for it, so perhaps we were expecting a bit much. The area around our rooms had no grass at all, just lots and lots of sand, littered with scorpion holes. We were placed at the back where the units are spacious, but the décor is really old fashioned compared to other accommodation in the same price bracket in Khorixas and Tsumeb. We were a little disappointed after a long, dusty journey in the heat, but at least the unit had an old airconditioner (it dripped all night but at least the air was cool) and there was a fridge in our room which was welcome. On the positive side, the breakfast was fabulous, including some lovely home-bakes and the ladies serving us were a real delight. This more or less made up for the not-so-nice decor.

Room Tip: If you are small party ask for a thatched bungalow rather than the family rooms at the back – they l...

While travelling through Namibia, we also passed through Damara-land on our way to Swakopmund. Since the distance between Etosha and Swakopmund is a challenge (due to road conditions), we decided to spend a night in Uis. That prooved to be a very good decision which also gave us the opportunity to visit the White Lady rock painting(s). About the B&B: the hosts are very nice and helped us a lot with e.g. the flat tyre we had. Rooms are very clean and offer a lot of space. The White Lady B&B is in very good condition and I can absolutely recommend it also for a longer stay.
