“Return to Nonsuch Bay Resort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2014

This year we returned for kite boarding. We picked Nonsuch Bay Resort as it has the kite base on its premises and everything was just perfect when we stayed last year. We had a one bedroom appartment and everything was just awesome. We would love to come back. We can only recommend this place - a bit off the beaten paths and you have your small Carribean paradise right on marvellouse nonsuch bay, turqouise waters, white sand beach with coconut palm trees.
They added a small grocery store to the resort where you get the essentials for a carribean holiday. Don't expect a great selection, but it won't let you starving if you arrive and don't know your way around how to get milk for breakfast.

Room Tip: We think the second floor rooms for 1-bedroom-appartment are nicer and also the third floor rooms fo...

This was the last island in a 4 island odyssey and having been to Antigua before, although to another exquisite hotel we only planned a 5 night stay, to watch a one day West Indies v England cricket match and oh to relax, it's tiring being on holiday!
We had a single room apartment and the photographs do not do it justice; it was gorgeous. The sitting room, wrap around balcony so there was a balcony outside the bedroom were impeccably furnished and well maintained as was the separate bathroom. A beautiful 4 poster with dreamy drapes made sleeping magic. Our room had sea views and was above one of the swimming pools.
There is a pleasant palm tree lined walk to the main reception area and restaurant where staff are friendly and helpful. It was very quiet and although full there was rarely a time when it felt in any way over peopled; lots of space.
The restaurant was idyllic, perched over the jetty and looking towards the beach or sea when looking at the whole panorama. The food was imaginative, beautifully cooked and slight changes to the menu were exciting. Staff in e restaurant were utterly professional, intelligent and delightful. Breakfast, not included was excellent and good value.
The immediate road to the hotel is bumpy and unmade but somehow this added to the charm. Yes it is somewhat isolated but like us you can hire a car and learn more about this beautiful island.
There is a restaurant, Harmony Hall nearby which has great italian food for a night or lunch out and one of Antigua's best beaches Half moon bay, 'round the corner'.
This hotel is fantastic and I wholeheartedly recommend it; We will certainly return; we didn't want to leave.

Room Tip: Ours was second row back but don't let that deter the site is on a hill. It was excellent.

Nonsuch Bay has a lovely set up: separate apartments with kitchenettes and private pools. You can eat at their on-premise dining room or cook in the room. Food is expensive on Antigua whether you buy groceries or go to a restaurant. The kitchens are fully stocked with cookware and have dishwasher, toaster, coffee maker, microwave, plus a washer/dryer for small loads of clothes. The beach is quiet and contained so there are no waves (good for little kids). The staff is warm and friendly as well as very helpful with booking activities. If you like water sports, the resort has many activities to choose from. The property is fairly secluded so you'll need to rent a car to visit the rest of the island but overall it was lovely and I can't wait to return!

The resort really is in gorgeous setting and if you like the benefits of a villa or apartment but also enjoy a quiet resort feel (plus the bonus of amazing sailing and then kite surfing and paddle boarding through 40 Knots) this is a really lovely choice.

To enjoy the island and see those beautiful, aquamarine blue seas hire a jeep, take a taxi or even just take the boat over to Green Island. Antigua is an amazing, friendly island and there is some beautiful beaches to see and wonderful restaurants. We were travelling with our 6 and 3 year old kids:

First off Natasha at Kids Club is fantastic, lots of energy, bubbly personality and takes the kids for water based activities. There is a price for kids to attend the Club ($50 per child for half day). Well worth the value if you have a child that can access the sailing, and expensive if not.

Little in the way of inside stuff for those beyond toddler but not old enough to sail. It would make more sense to make it a free drop in, with hourly indoor activities and a fee for sailing as opposed to paying for the day or half day (we went to Rosewood Mayakoba last year and they did a great job with this in their Kids Club).

There was a free pizza and movie on for kids, the night of the manager's cocktail party - I don't know if this was a one off, but well worth asking about as the kids had fun and we had a quiet dinner!

Although there is the seaweed, my kids thought it was the best beach for making sandcastles on the island - the discerning eyes of a 6 year old.

Pools are all 5ft deep and no paddling pools - also hard to find buckets and spades.

The apartments have great wrap around decks and patio doors from all the rooms (that can be heaviely bolted if worried about wandering small kids).

Restaurant can be slow - we either fed kids before we went out and they had dessert, or I had heard that people would phone through their kids' order. All the food was fantastic for both adults and kids alike from breakfast through to dinner, although kids menu seemed a bit steep at $20.

They could really do with a separate bar or another causal eating area. There is a great space by the cliff pool that seems to be unused - could something be done with this.

Book the sailing before you go - much better value.

No gym, but the hills make for a punishing work out - we even saw someone running along the road to the resort for those that are hard core. Pack your goggles - pools are a good length for a work out and there is always paddling boarding to work on the core! Staff at 40 knots and Non Such sailing are fab.

There really is nothing else around - apart from Harmony Hall to eat - but the setting, staff and the atmosphere make up for it. Overall, I liked the fact that we were attached to some of the facilities of a hotel, but still had the flexibility of an apartment and the views are so lovely I just want to be back there!

Our children's spring break week allowed us to stay for 7 days in what was an absolutely beautiful and refreshing resort. The accommodations (we had a 2 bedroom apt) were very clean with a well-stocked kitchen and ample, comfortable and stylish seating in a number of rooms. The terrace was lovely and private.

We wanted to sail, and sail we did. Nonsuch Resort has a strong fleet of boats and the wind to keep them moving. Do make sure you understand what sort of plan you are purchasing. While we purchased a 10 hour sailing package for $300, we we thought we were booking 10 hours of boat time for the family. We later realized that ten hours of sailing was per person. So if the five of us took out the Hobie for an hour that counted as five hours (approx. $150). Any way, just ask questions. Denise is fabulous on the resort side of sailing. There is also another company called 40 Knots that rents out kite boards and paddle boards. These enthusiastic entrepreneurs were wonderful as well. I have confidence in all the sailing staff and wouldn't hesitate to send any child out with them.

The staff at the resort in general were VERY kind and patient. Well trained and happy employees. They are anxious to help, fix or explain any question, situation or concern.

Location - it is a haul to get most anywhere else on the island….. The kids were a little nauseated on all the roads, and my husband a bit stressed driving on the left. Donkeys, goats, dogs and ferrets abound, which added to the roadside mayhem but gave us a diversion from our nausea. While we didn't use the car as much as we had planned, it was wonderful when we had to go to town to pick up medicine for our son's swimmers' ear. The concierge connected us to a doctor by phone (we knew exactly what the problem was) and for $25 he gave us good advice and called in a prescription.

We really hope to go back!

Room Tip: Higher rooms have a better view of the water, but all seem beautiful.

Am currently staying at nonsuch and wanted to say a few things if your thinking of staying. The good bits to begin with!
The food is amazing, good selection of steaks, pasta and seafood and menu changes every other day.
The apartments/villas are lovely and kept very clean and tidy.
The staff are all very friendly and would do anything to help you or provide something you require.
Especially Timmy, David and Cheryl in the restaurant and all the ladies behind reception.
The down sides unfortunately are the resort only has one restaurant and there is nothing nearby to go to. It's very expensive and a simple meal with starters, two mains and two drinks will cost you £100 easily.
The only other downside is we have been woken up at 745 every morning with hammering and sawing from the building work which is going on. Being in a Bay Area this sounds like it's next door to our villa because of the echo!!
This may not necessarily be related to the resort but it's very frustrating!!
Apart from those negative points would recommend Nonsuch for Antigua :-)

Overall a great week. We chose the resort for the sailing and were not disappointed. We prebooked five days unlimited sailing and sailed for two hours each morning and two in the afternoon. All the time we had a great instructor called Micky who was very knowledgeable and helpful. I ended the week helming an Elite in 20 knot winds!
Our only criticism is the service in the restaurant was slow. It did improve after we said something. Food was great though. We had breakfast included which was well worth it.
Also special mention to the reception staff who were great throughout.
