Although we have just returned home from a two-week stay at NonSuch Bay Resort with our three teenage children, in our minds we are still in Antigua. Obviously the autumn-like weather over here does not help to get back into the European summer rhythm, but most of all it is the memory of our great stay in NonSuch Bay that makes it difficult to get starting again. We thoroughly enjoyed the superb 3-bedroom accomodation we stayed in, offering us all we needed and more. Well laid out and fully equipped, it was a difficult choice every day whether to leave our duplex apartment or just stay in and read, play games and listen to music. The pools and the beach were super and the restaurant first class with excellent food and a jummy wine list. But first and foremost it is the staff at the resort that made us stay unforgettable. After getting to know us a bit (and some of our funny habits like wanting sauce on the side...) they got exactly the right balance between pleasant informality and discrete service. The ladies at reception were very helpful and attended to whatever we needed during our stay. Even the security and maintenance men would asked how we were doing. It is always nice to stay in great accomodation with the best facilities, but at the end of the day the quality of one's stay is determined by the people who take care of you and the level of service you are provided with. In NonSuch Bay Resort we were very pleasantly surprised by this, especially realising this is all managed by one very hands-on person with a limited amount of team-members. Our compliments ! We hope to be back one day.

My wife and I were looking for a place to spend our 15th anniversary this year. We had the list narrowed down to some usual suspects (Turks and Caicos, Aruba, St. Barts, etc.) but, after seeing a great deal on SniqueAway for Nonsuch Bay Resort, we were off to Antigua for a week.

First things first: The resort is beautiful. We were expecting 'good' but found we'd booked 'great' instead. The location, on a hill overlooking the bay, provides scenery from every angle. The entire resort is planted with beautiful plants and flowering trees. The three pools were perfectly positioned throughout the resort, and the main building's location was picture perfect. From this remote spot, you feel as if you have the entire island to yourself.

Our first floor, one-bedroom suite was beautiful. The unit was almost exactly like our home: large living area, king-sized bedroom, full kitchen, dining room, large bath, HUGE closet, and a wonderful patio looking over the pool. The unit is fully equipped with everything you would find in most any home, including flat-panel tv, wi-fi, washer/dryer combo, and every kitchen gadget known to man. Beautiful hardwood floors stretch throughout the unit, and each room is filled with floor-to-ceiling patio doors that open to let in the breeze. If you can't make yourself comfortable here, then you aren't trying.

The staff, including the owner himself, is a joy to deal with. We stopped by the front desk each day and were always given helpful hints about our planned adventures for the day. We only had one meal at the on-site restaurant, but that experience was also excellent. They happily customized our order to suit several dietary requirements, even packing it to be taken back to our room so we could dine in on our own patio.

Our visit occurred during the last week of June, a few weeks into the low season. We were often the only people at the resort beach, and at the pool in front of our unit was hardly ever used. The peacefulness was just what we'd hoped to find when we selected Nonsuch Bay Resort.

Now, two caveats that anyone who considers the resort should be aware of:

The beach: Currents push seaweed constantly into the small (roughly 100 yards of shoreline) beach at Nonsuch Bay, meaning the water is full of it and the beaches covered with it. The resort does an admirable job trying to keep things cleared out (staff is out cleaning the beach every morning), but it's hard to fight nature. That being said, you are about 5 minutes away from the incredible Half Moon Bay, which became our go-to beach.

The location: Nonsuch Bay is NOT easy to get to. The road conditions (on the island as a whole) are tricky, but the closer you get to the resort, the more challenging the conditions become. Our SUV struggled with the hills, broken pavement, and fist-sized-rock-and-gravel road leading to the resort. You are also far away from dining and shopping, so be prepared to drive some distance if you want more than the resort's restaurant.

Nonsuch Bay Resort is perfect for those who value the intimate, familiar feel of a small resort. Your unit quickly feels like your own vacation home and not just a hotel room at a nameless mega-resort. The remote location and challenges commute lends to a private-island feel that's hard to replicate. If your goal is to hide away from the world without feeling like you've ever left home, this is the place for you.

Room Tip: Rooms are spacious! Even our one-bedroom unit could have easily fit a couple and a few children (if...

Beautiful location, amazing accommodations, friendly staff and some of the best food on the Island. This was my first destination when arriving to Antigua for a business trip and definitely a place I plan to return to asap. I mentioned before but the staff was extremely kind and helpful and even the Chef came out during dinner to say hi and make sure everything was perfect....which included some great local drinks! I don't normally fill out tripadvisor reviews but felt this place deserves to be seen and I feel many people would appreciate Nonsuch Bay Resort on all levels. My room was much more than I expected too....this is a great find so def check it out!!! :)

Room Tip: I have no comments on Spa and Fitness center due to not having a chance to check them out......but h...

Finding that perfect blend between a private villa and a full service Caribbean resort is a very difficult task and one our family had never been able to achieve until this two week holiday in Antigua.

My wife and I and our extended grown family spent two wonderful weeks enjoying a spacious, well furnished and quiet three bedroom apartment with a stupendous wrap around veranda overlooking Nonsuch Bay ... where we spent many hours soaking up the sun, breezes, and NO mosquitoes. Nonsuch Bay Resort (NBR) is hidden away on the south-eastern shore of the island and has to be one of the best kept secrets on Antigua. Simple elegance, wonderful cooling trade winds (which keeps the biting bugs away) and all the amenities of a full service resort with the ambience of a private villa… we couldn’t have ask for much more. What surprised us was that the apartment at NBR far surpassed what was posted in on-line reviews, pictures, and brochures.

On a value for money spent – definitely the best we have experienced in many years of visiting the islands.

A few items to highlight and note:

• What sets the apartment at NBR apart from so many other Caribbean resorts is the intimate elegance and atmosphere of a luxury retreat nestled in a in a world class resort. The apartment / NBR had multiple infinity pools, immaculately groomed grounds, Wi-Fi / cell / high speed internet service, and a friendly and engaging staff. Starting with Pascale who met us when we arrived and helped me navigate from the airport to Zoe and Therita who welcomed us every day in the reception area. Add to this a top drawer on-premise restaurant with one of the top chefs in the Caribbean who has composed a thoughtful and responsive team of Charmaine, Paula, Keren and David. We were never disappointed whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner (albeit the dinner menu is limited). One very pleasant surprise were the options provided to our son-in-law who has a wheat/gluten/dairy allergy… the chef came up with wonderful options for each meal we enjoyed there – Hats off!

• We deliberately choose a two week window in late June and expected the island to be quiet but unlike the other islands, where it just slows down and many of the restaurants, galleries, and water sports business remain open, Antigua does not. On June 1 the countryside rolls up the sidewalks and shuts down for three months. While we missed having a variety of small local restaurants to discover and enjoy we had a fantastic alternative, a wonderfully equipped kitchen that provided us the opportunity to try our hand at cooking local recipes, snacking on local fruit (pineapples!!!), sipping cold wine and in the evenings watching glorious sunsets bathed in soft trade winds from the veranda.

• The sailing facility/marina is managed by dedicated and experienced mariners (thank you Leslie) whose patience with me has to be commended. Leslie, manager of the sailing facility, in addition to providing hands on sailing instruction arranged for us to rent a 19’ Boston Whaler from Paradise Boat Rentals and then provided me with a two hour orientation of the shoals, reefs, beaches, approach lanes, and currents all minutes from the dock and all inside the barrier reef that protects Nonsuch Bay. Paradise delivered and recovered the boat at NBR and it was anchored at the facility throughout our stay– this gave us the flexibility to spend time exploring different snorkeling opportunities, kite surfing and experiencing Green Island at our leisure. We spent several afternoons sailing “Elites” in the bay and “kite surfing” (not me) and even when the winds were light we all had a great time on the beautiful soft sandy beaches. Snorkeling was good even though the water was a bit cloudy at times.

• As we were going to be on the island for two weeks Pascal, offered to go to St John’s and pick up whatever we needed or if we were adventurous she would provide directions to visit Epicurean Fine Foods and Spirits in St John. We made the trip and it was worth it … fabulous store! We also discovered Crab Hole, a convenience store near English Harbor (15min) that served us well and had a good wine and spirits selection – VERY easy to get there. Although we did not stop at Island Provisioning a mile or so from the airport, as I was a bit preoccupied with learning to drive “British style”, it was recommended and was it is enroute to the resort.

Only Drawback – NBR is way out of the beaten path and I would recommend renting a car to explore the island. It is about 25 minutes from the airport, if you know how to navigate the roads. The last couple of miles are on a washboard gravel road but don’t be discouraged it is worth the drive! Pascale and Zoe recommended that when we were out we should pick up some of the locally grown bananas, sample the FANTASTIC “black” pineapples and savor the scrumptious avocados available from any of the roadside fruit stands… we did… many, many times!!!!

On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being nirvana our stay at NBR would have to be a 9+. We will return … one of the best two weeks my wife and family have spent just relaxing and doing nothing but recharging our life batteries.

We had an incredible honeymoon at Nonsuch Bay Resort. Having spent a few days driving around Antigua, we never found a place more welcoming, beautiful, or peaceful than our home at Nonsuch Bay. The staff became our cherished friends, our questions and needs were always answered, our apartment was roomy, our balcony offered an incredible view, and the restaurant, The Bay at Nonsuch, was exquisite.

During your stay, we recommend spending plenty of time on the beach at nearby Half Moon Bay (the front desk can arrange a taxi), driving down to see Shirley Heights (the front desk can also arrange rental cars), and taking the trip out to Green Island (watch out for lizards!).

We already miss our time at Nonsuch Bay and hope to return sooner than later.

Room Tip: Our top-floor, corner suite on the northernmost side of the resort offered an incredible view from t...

We got married and honeymooned at Nonsuch Bay. The entire experience was magical!Spectacular views and impressive architecture are just the beginning. A gentle breeze blows constantly. The management and staff couldn't have been more more helpful and hospitable.

Foodies take note: The food was absolutely superb, thanks to their brilliant chef, Mitchell Husbands, 2011 Caribbean Chef of the Year. You won't want to dine anywhere else. Chef Husband's cuisine is generally recognised as the BEST on the whole island.

The staff were wonderful. Friendly and accommodating in every way possible. Nonsuch Bay is picturesque, secluded and tranquil. The suites are elegant and roomy. It's the perfect destination for a relaxing getaway.

If you go there, don't miss the chance to spend a whole day on a secluded beach on an uninhabited island, 20 minutes away from Nonsuch Bay by boat. Order lunch before you go the staff will deliver it by boat at whatever time suits you.Take that sailing lesson you've always wanted! We'll be back, for sure.

This was the first time that we had visited the Caribbean and we had the most amazing stay at Nonsuch Bay Resort. From the time that you land we were treated with such warm hospitality. We were greated by Zoe who was so lovely and gave us a wonderful tour of the apartment. We were lucky to be put in a 2 bedroom villa that was closest to the beach, which was perfect for us. The villa was huge (in comparison to what we are used to - living in London), with a fully equipped kitchen with all the necessary facilities that we were able to make dinner each night and enjoy it outside on the balcony. The apartment itself, looks just like it did in the brochures, spacious and beautifully furnished. It was such a relaxing stay that we were really reluctant to leave.

Nonsuch Bay is in a more remote part of the island - which was exactly what we loved about it. We would definitely recommend hiring a car to explore the island, and also to pick up some groceries. We visited a couple of beaches but kept going back to Halfmoon Bay which was exquisite - impossibly blue waters and power soft sand. We also went on a day trip to Green Island for a bit of snorkelling which was amazing fun. We were dropped off in a tiny cover on the island where my husband and I were the only ones there - a real Gilligan Island moment!

All in all - our trip was amazing, largely because of Nonsuch Bay resort and the staff.
