“Could not have asked for more. See you again next year!”
Reviewed July 12, 2014 for a stay in June 2014

Myself, my husband and two children (1 year and 3 years) stayed in Rose Cottage for 11 nights in June. We travelled with friends who stayed in the other two cottages, and I have to say it was our best family holiday to date.

Anna and Simon have thought of absolutely every home comfort you may need when travelling with young children. Real cots, highchairs, booster seats, buggies, blackout blinds for the windows, bath toys, wetsuits for the pool, outside toys, children's crockery and cutlery..... everything!! We literally packed a case of clothes each and that was all we needed.

The accommodation itself is beautiful and in a peaceful location, as well as being spotlessly clean. The selection of available bikes is extensive and there are suggested nearby towns to cycle to on quiet, safe roads. The pool was a huge hit, as was the playbarn to escape the midday sun.
The children enjoyed egg collecting and pony rides - Tamara was very patient with them!

We took advantage of the family meals Anna and Simon offered on the evening we arrived and again the night before we left. We also had the BBQ they cook for you. All VERY good food and a welcome break from doing it yourself. Us Mum's in the group had a treatment each from the visitng beauty therapist and I'd also recommend this.

The pastries/bread from the boulangerie in Vasle were the best we found. Parthenay was also a lovely town to spend a couple of hours and have lunch al fresco. We went to La Rochelle for the day, and spent about 2 hours in the aquarium. Next time we'll go for a much longer day, spend a decent amount of time in the aquarium and longer mooching around. We also went to the Monkey Sanctuary for the day which we all enjoyed. Apart from that we just stayed at Lac De Maison, enjoying all it has to offer to keep the children amused and catching a sneaky few moments in the hammocks when able.

So perfect was our holiday, that we are booked to return next year and simply cannot wait! Thank-you Anna and Simon (and Honey!)

“Fantastic hosts, relaxing stay, perfect for children”
Reviewed May 26, 2014 for a stay in May 2014

Anna and Simon could not have been more welcoming or helpful right from our very first email enquiry. Our gite was equipped with everything you could need for our little ones (11 months and nearly 3), and it was the first holiday where we genuinely wanted to stay put day after day. There's so much space and so many things to do, pool, endless grass to run about on, play barn, sand pit, swings, trampolines, we even had a go at cycling ( they have all the kit you need) and pony riding. I would recommend to anyone who wants a great, safe, quiet space to relax in and enjoy special family time altogether . Added bonus was the brilliant cooking, can heartily recommend the 3 course dinner.

“First time at Lac de Maison - certainly not the last!”
Reviewed September 30, 2013 for a stay in August 2013

We travelled down to Lac de Maison in August and after a loooong and gruelling car journey with a 2 year old whose vocabulary (unfortunately!) now stretches to "are we nearly there yet?" we were relieved and very grateful to see the driveway up to the three lovely looking gites in front of us. Anna and Simon were there with a very warm welcome and showed us the entirity of the gorgeous grounds and gite (we stayed in Rose Cottage) which was to be our base camp for a week.

Well, we were amazed by the attention to detail that has gone into the planning of both the inside and outside areas - just perfect for little ones. There is just so much for children to choose from, from the treehouse and giant trampoline to the swimming pool and playbarn, not to mention the swings, slides and teepee tent plus the ponies and chickens.....phew! I could go on....

And inside our cottage was everything you would need for a stay with children, brilliant! Really practical but still had that traditional French country charm.

Anna and Simon were on hand with suggestions of places to visit. We took their advice on a few and had some lovely days out though it is more than possible to spend a thoroughly relaxed week around the pool and gardens at Lac de Maison. It was the first time we felt totally comfortable letting our 2 year old run around with the other children out of our view, safe in the knowledge that the gardens are completely enclosed.

Anna's cooking is a must, at least on arrival - so so welcome after our road trip from Dorset to Dover then on to Calais via Eurotunnel and down to the Charente. Anyway, a fantastic meal!

The holiday we had was wonderful and honestly relaxing, so good that we have booked to stay again next summer - can't wait!

“Another Awesome Holiday - Lac de Maison keeps getting better and better”
Reviewed September 4, 2013 for a stay in August 2013

A truly wonderful cluster of gites. Perfect for kids of all ages. The owners keep investing in the property with new things added every year. Our kids loved the new treehouse. We have spent the last 5 summers in France and have stayed at over a dozen different family / kid focused gites. Lac de Maison is the best of them by a country mile. Would highly recommend, particulary in the off-season.

“Perfect family holiday”
Reviewed August 11, 2013 for a stay in July 2013

Just back from a lovely fortnight's break at Anna & Simon's place and, like an earlier writer, was so impressed that I'm writing my first review. We stayed in Rose, which is the middle of the the 3 cottages and was very well furnished and equipped. Straight away there is a really welcoming feeling and you are struck by how well all the details have been thought through - our girls have never been so well catered for ! Our girls are 3 and 5 and made friends with the other residents - human and animal - quickly, so my wife and I had a great break in the knowledge that they were having a great, safe time without us trailing around behind them ! For me personally I like to be out and about a lot and was worried that there might not be enough for me to do in the area, but there definitely was - churches with medieval frescos, ancient barrows, baptistries, abbies, canals to boat on, etc. I also did lovely runs and cycles on the empty roads, scaring the butterflies and deer. Order the food, it's lovely - but only if you're prepared to run or cycle straight after, otherwise you may not fit back into your work suit !

“A gem set in a peaceful part of France.”
Reviewed July 28, 2013 for a stay in June 2013

If a fully equipped, family friendly and peaceful holiday in France is what you are looking for then look no further than Lac du Maison.

Lac du Maison is tucked away amongst the fields of France and yet is close enough to local attractions and conveniences for both peace and quiet and things to do. It has enough space for everyone to enjoy the facilities, including the pool and the many other child (and adult) friendly features. We took walks and cycle rides in the countryside, picked and ate fresh cherries from the trees, swam every day, went to local markets and restaurants and generally had a great time. Simon and Anna, the owners, are always around if you need them and are always happy to help and even cook excellent dishes for you if you wish. The range of animals for the children to interact with is a nice touch, including ponies and a lovely horse called Trigger/Tempest/Typhoon (I can't remember).

We'll be going back next year if we can get a booking as it always seems to be full, which is not surprising!
