This is my second visit and I have to say it was another amazing visit. The weather was beautiful for the majority of my stay, which added to the fab experience.
Thomas, Amanda and the boys are very welcoming. It was lovely they recalled my last visit in June 2016. They are very knowledgeable of the area and will happily share tips of places to visit and explore.
The accommodation is lovely and very well located for exploring the area and further afield.
Yet again I found the accommodation to be very well looked after, with a high level of cleanliness. The outside area is great to relax, read a book, drink a good cuppa (or wine!) and take in the views. The sheep are very friendly and inquisitive too! And I had a daily visit from the cat! Sadly I didn't have time to use the hot tub this visit....guess I will just have to return on another occasion!! Not that I need an excuse to return!!!
It was my 30th birthday whilst I was away and Thomas brought down some home baked bread, magazines and a candle to celebrate. Such a lovely gesture.
I visited Talacre beach which was recommended in the property guest folder. It's a stunning beach to walk along and well worth a trip, especially when the sun is setting.
I would also recommend a meal at Dinorben Arms in Bodfari which is only a few minutes drive from the accommodation. The location is beautiful, has a lovely outside terrace area and the food is amazing!
Overall, I very much recommend staying here. If you want somewhere in a lovely location, which has great facilities, a hot tub and lovely/knowledgeable owners then this is the place to stay.
I will be back for a 3rd visit sometime soon :)
Just come back after a wonderful relaxing stay
we dont live far away but just wanted a nice stay without all the travelling and got a lot more than we expected the views where stunning and felt we where tucked away in our own little part of wales
we where greeted on arrival by Thomas who made us welcome from the start and had a few little treats for us for our stay
Homemade scones and jam with clotted cream and the freshly baked ciabatta was amazing
the Hot tub was amazing and lovely to sit in first thing in the morning just taking in the views
all in all a fantastic stay
We have visited the bothy before and enjoyed so much we thought we would pay another visit. Safe to say it's still as charming and as perfect as it was 2 years ago!
We were made to feel very welcome, the bothy was immaculately clean and inviting. The hot tub was the highlight of our stay, perfect for relaxing in with a well earned g&t. Help was always at hand as our fire lighting skills were not up to scratch. The bathroom is a gem in itself, hidden away underneath with it's free standing bath, candles and twinkly lights.
We enjoyed a short walk to the pub for a couple of drinks, advised the food was amazing however we really wanted to kickstart the BBQ and take advantage of the good weather.
Our host Thomas was approachable and gave great advice for our stay.
We have thouroughly enjoyed ourselves and will be planning a return trip hopefully soon.
My husband and I have just come back form a week at Cae Gwyn and feel thoroughly relaxed. The farm is in the middle of nowhere, yet so close to the A55 that you can get to Chester in half an hour and Snowdon in an hour. We had come to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary and were not disappointed. The Cottage was very cute and exactly as it is shown on the website, but I had forgotten about the separate bathroom which did make for fun and games in the middle of the night. The way is lit though and often I was an opportunity to see the moon lighting up the valley or listen to the noises of nature (mainly a screeching fox). My husband is over 6 ft so I must say the romantic bathtub is a nice idea but was not practical for him and often meant I had to help him wash just so the spray didn’t go everywhere in attempts to move about in the tub.
The setting is breathtaking though. We have been on many holidays with hot tubs (both wood fired and traditional) and haven’t come across a view like this so far (this was the main reason I booked it and not the other two accommodations as their modern hot tub didn’t have a view –but did have a shower!). We spent many night and morning in the tub and it did mean that our plans for the day tended to go out the window as we didn’t want to move from the spot. Watching (and listening) to the fields of local sheep was interesting as they went about their day. I hadn’t realised how vocal they are, and watch out for them “queuing” every evening to go to bed, very funny. We even managed to sit in the tub one night when the rain poured down, which for us was wonderful, so we are glad that Thomas and Amanda hadn’t put a cover over it over. We would have loved to have seen some starry nights too but maybe next time.
The bed and facilities were lovely and comfortable, the small kitchen more than ample. The TV and DVD’s were a nice addition but we didn’t really use them. Throughout our stay, Thomas was both helpful and removed, only coming round briefly every now and then (or when asked) to see how we were. He is a mind of information and a nice guy, so do make sure you stop for a natter. We felt very much at home the whole week and appreciated the small details such as champagne and some chocolates delivered to us to help us celebrate our anniversary.
Only a couple of downsides (depending on your point of view): you are close to nature in a good and bad way, so if you aren’t a fan of insects and spiders be warned, we spent most nights removing spiders from the room (only small ones- we’re real whimps) and watching beetles run around the bathroom at night. Many of whom got crushed when we didn’t see them on the floor. The flowers also attract large bumble bees, which is lovely but they did tend to fly into you a lot when you sat outside under the veranda.
Secondly the hot tub, which is wood fired, is great but does take a few hours to set up so not as handy as jumping into a traditional one as soon as you get home from a long walk (Mount Snowdon for us!)
Thirdly, we were surprised to find in the pre arrival email information that there were additional costs for the hot tub use, the fire wood, the BBQ etc. We opted out of using the BBQ to save on money there but really wanted to use the hot tub so had to pay the fees for this. All other venues we have visited have had this all included in the price. This is perhaps something for you to consider budgeting for when you arrive or perhaps for Cae Gwyn to consider adding to their fee for the total hire/give such information on the initial booking webpage. This and the need to clean the cottage on leaving may have been covered in T & C’s but I couldn’t find these on the website or on any communications.
Otherwise a dreamy and fabulous time. Until next time…....Snow?
Second time we have visited and again was a brilliant experience. Thomas was so helpful during our stay and made everything so easy. We will definitely be returning again.
My partner booked the bothy for a birthday surprise. We visited for new year in 2015 and loved it and said we would love to come back in the summer months, so that we did. The bothy is fabulous and has everything you can ask for and more! We touched extremely lucky with it being a heatwave so we were able to use the outdoor facilities also with the outdoor furniture, BBQ and most of all hot tub with the most breathe taking views! Thomas and Amanda aren't so helpful and friendly and i was greeted by Thomas with a complimentary bottle of prosecco due to it being me birthday which was a lovely touch and made my special day that even bit more special! Thomas and Amanda have several animals also, one of them being the horses which we loved stroking and petting. We can't thank Thomas and Amanda enough for our wonderful stay and can't wait to book again soon!
My partner and I stayed here in May 2017, we were truly in awe of the Bothy. It's decor is perfect, we both agreed if it was our own place we would have decorated it exactly the same. The only noise you will hear are from the friendly horses, sheep, owls and the resident fox and of course not forgetting the crackling of the log fire in the fire pit or from the Scandinavian Hottub..there is something special when you heat the water in the hot tub by stoking up the fire, drinking wine, admiring the stunning view across the valley and as night falls staring up at the stars, all whilst sitting and enjoying wine in the tub. If you don't fancy the tub then the bathroom is extremely relaxing, with a free standing bath and subtle lighting from the many candles. The Bothy itself is very cozy, it does have kitchen appliances but I preffered to use the gas BBQ for every meal, fresh meat cooked on the BBQ not only tastes better but smells so good. Thomas could simply not do enough for us both, unlike some cottages the owners feel the need to visit you daily to see if they can assist or help out, Thomas on the other hand leaves you to it yet will be on hand whenever you need him, he simply couldn't help out enough, a true host and most of all a great credit to what he has turned the Bothy into. I know for sure we will be visiting again, my aim is at least 3 times a year to experience the seasons throughout the year. We originally had a full itinerary for our stay but the moment we arrived that went out of the window, it's a place that needs to be experienced. The location is also perfect for day trips out, Snowdonia National park is only 30 minutes away and there's a stunning lake surrounded by pine forest just 15-20 minutes drive away, not to mention beaches too...full credit to Thomas and his family for making such a stunning place. If you like to sit outdoors in peace and quiet then do not give this place a miss. It's a must......and I will be definitely be going back for the fresh breakfast!!! Don't miss out!
