Second time we have visited and again was a brilliant experience. Thomas was so helpful during our stay and made everything so easy. We will definitely be returning again.
My partner booked the bothy for a birthday surprise. We visited for new year in 2015 and loved it and said we would love to come back in the summer months, so that we did. The bothy is fabulous and has everything you can ask for and more! We touched extremely lucky with it being a heatwave so we were able to use the outdoor facilities also with the outdoor furniture, BBQ and most of all hot tub with the most breathe taking views! Thomas and Amanda aren't so helpful and friendly and i was greeted by Thomas with a complimentary bottle of prosecco due to it being me birthday which was a lovely touch and made my special day that even bit more special! Thomas and Amanda have several animals also, one of them being the horses which we loved stroking and petting. We can't thank Thomas and Amanda enough for our wonderful stay and can't wait to book again soon!
My partner and I stayed here in May 2017, we were truly in awe of the Bothy. It's decor is perfect, we both agreed if it was our own place we would have decorated it exactly the same. The only noise you will hear are from the friendly horses, sheep, owls and the resident fox and of course not forgetting the crackling of the log fire in the fire pit or from the Scandinavian Hottub..there is something special when you heat the water in the hot tub by stoking up the fire, drinking wine, admiring the stunning view across the valley and as night falls staring up at the stars, all whilst sitting and enjoying wine in the tub. If you don't fancy the tub then the bathroom is extremely relaxing, with a free standing bath and subtle lighting from the many candles. The Bothy itself is very cozy, it does have kitchen appliances but I preffered to use the gas BBQ for every meal, fresh meat cooked on the BBQ not only tastes better but smells so good. Thomas could simply not do enough for us both, unlike some cottages the owners feel the need to visit you daily to see if they can assist or help out, Thomas on the other hand leaves you to it yet will be on hand whenever you need him, he simply couldn't help out enough, a true host and most of all a great credit to what he has turned the Bothy into. I know for sure we will be visiting again, my aim is at least 3 times a year to experience the seasons throughout the year. We originally had a full itinerary for our stay but the moment we arrived that went out of the window, it's a place that needs to be experienced. The location is also perfect for day trips out, Snowdonia National park is only 30 minutes away and there's a stunning lake surrounded by pine forest just 15-20 minutes drive away, not to mention beaches too...full credit to Thomas and his family for making such a stunning place. If you like to sit outdoors in peace and quiet then do not give this place a miss. It's a must......and I will be definitely be going back for the fresh breakfast!!! Don't miss out!
My girlfriend and I stayed at The Bothy over the May bank holiday and had a truly wonderful stay. The cottage is quaint and quirky with all of the amenities required to be self-sufficient for the weekend, however what really makes the place special is the use of the outdoor space, with amble seating plus a fire pit and hot tub. Thomas, the owner made the whole process easy, right the way from being extremely communicative with the booking, greeting us on arrival and showing us how everything works, he was also able to recommend days out to enjoy North Wales. I would recommend The Bothy to anyone who fancies a quiet outdoor break in the countryside and look forward to returning for second stay in the future.
The Bothy. To be honest it's hard to know where to start.
Thomas and his family have created a really special space.
The location midway along North Wales is excellent - Snowdonia national park is a short drive away for those wishing to walk/scramble/climb over some stunning scenery. For a those who prefer their experience closer to sea level the North Wales coast has excellent medieval towns and castles with a vibrant mix of local stores, restaurants and entertainment.
However you absolutely should keep in mind that after your day out has ended you will be returning to The Bothy and a generously sized, wood fired, hottub to pleasantly melt in while you enjoy a marvelous view over rolling hills. If the weather is cooler the bathroom on the lower floor has a bathtub of impressive proportions, and provides another cosy and romantic space.
Afterward the gas barbeque, despite my initial incompetence at how to work it (very rapidly sorted out by the ever cheerful Thomas), came into play and the result enjoyed next to the fire pit while relaxing on the large sofa.
The night is peaceful - definitely no traffic what so ever - the noises of the rural setting are part and parcel of the location, however Phil the pheasant and his wooly backing singers may try to serenade you in the morning.
If you are looking for a romantic getaway you really should try the bothy.
Finally, Thomas and his family are delightful hosts, and added a huge bonus to our stay at The Bothy providing that hard to find ingredient making a good experience into a great one.
An absolutely wonderful venue which we will definitely be revisiting in the future. A stunning setting with fabulous views across the valley, in a charming little part of the world. There can't be many better ways to unwind than a couple of hours in the hot tub with a good book, pausing occasionally to marvel at the tranquillity and the view.
We went inside the Bothy to a delicious welcome of homemade scones and soon made the acquaintance of Thomas and Amanda, both of whom are among the nicest, wittiest and most accommodating people you could hope to meet. They are fonts of local knowledge and full of good suggestions for your time - if you can tear yourself away from the Bothy, that is. The accommodation is snug and crammed with everything you could want, but the high ceiling means it never feels cramped. The bed is extraordinarily comfortable and there's even a TV and DVD collection if you're so inclined - not that we turned it on once!
There's also plenty of wildlife to enjoy. Teddy is a brilliant, giddy little Border Terrier who will make himself known to you, while Joe the horse is also quite the character. Keep an ear out for Phil, a grouse who will punctuate the afternoon with his random exclamations.
The local pub - the Salusbury Arms - serves huge, excellent portions and the staff are super friendly. You can get to it via a five-minute cross-field walk from the Bothy
All in all, a flawless place to stay. Great hosts, wonderful setting. Can't wait to go back!
I stayed with my partner for three nights in the Bothy. We found it very tranquil, romantic and one of the most relaxing places we'd ever visited. The fire heated hot tub was the highlight of the trip; we found ourselves relaxing in the warm water, watching the rolling Welsh countryside and the wildlife for hours, even catching glimpse of the resident Pheasant "Phill". The bothy provides ultimate peacefulness. Whilst laying in the hot tub we could hear nothing other than the wind in the trees and bird song day and night.
Thomas was very accommodating and very pleasant; he recommended places to eat and things to see and even brought us some homemade scones, hot cross buns and Easter chocolates on our departure.
One important thing to take note if you're booking on a budget; something we didn't 100% expect when we booked is having to pay extra for all of the "luxuries". £18 for hot tub firewood (each use), £10 for hot tub cleaning and £5 for BBQ use. We originally thought the £130 a night would cover these sort of expenses.
However; the extra costs are totally worth the relaxing and remote experience you are awarded from staying at the Bothy.
We're not the best planners and like to improvise when we arrive, luckily there are several supermarkets in close proximity, the closest being a 15 minute drive. All we required was food, as the bothy provides everything else you would need. This includes cutlery, towels, fridge, tv and utensils.
For 50% of our stay we experienced traditional Welsh weather (rain), but not once did this hinder the use of the hot tub or even the BBQ. If anything, it made the experience even more romantic. Being able to lie in warm water with rain splashing around you is something we won't forget any time soon.
Overall, an amazingly relaxing experience, and completely worth a try.
