“Beautiful place”

We had an enjoyable 3 night stay through Secret Escapes - although I don't think I would have paid the prices without that discount. This included one night of the 5 course tasting menu which was very nice, but again, I don't think I would have paid £65 + 12.5% service per head for it. We went to the local pubs for the other nights - The Chequers was the nicer one.

The best things are the manor itself, the grounds and the really helpful, friendly staff. Breakfast was also very good.

Room Tip: We had room 10 which was right at the top which meant we were not disturbed by other guests at all a...

We had a one night dinner bed & breakfast deal through Secret Escapes.
Beautiful hotel in excellent condition. Log fires, comfortable, elegant public rooms. Service outstanding - professional, helpful, friendly from everyone we had contact with. Breakfast also outstanding - full English, cooked to order, high quality sausage, perfect scrambled eggs, crisp bacon. One of the nicest croissants I have ever had. Dinner wasn't quite of the same standard. We has the 5 course tasting menu. I was hoping to come away wondering why this restaurant isn't in the Good Food Guide. I didn't. The main reason I suspect is inconsistency. Excellent pumpkin soup to start, superb orange sorbet after the main course. BUT: a poached salmon dish nicely cooked but almost without flavour unless you count the (unadvertised and unwanted) horseradish cream on which it was sitting. Pigeon breast OK but overwhelmed by a rather one-dimensional beetroot garnish and bitter chocolate sauce. No other vegetables. Poached plums( well plum would be more accurate) which would have been much improved by the inclusion of some of the poaching liquor, accompanied by a reasonable pistachio ice cream (in place of the advertised honey ice cream) with neither component doing anything for its companion. Coffee good and a superb chocolate filled with liquid caramel.
A Reasonable wine list not overpriced if you accept 200% mark ups as normal but 2 Hendricks and tonic coming out at over £21 and the liberal use of 'optional' service charges even on the room rate!

Despite this, overall, we enjoyed our visit but there were enough niggles for us not to think of a return visit.

We went to Weston Manor hotel for our 2nd Wedding Anniversary. The hotel was booked via the Secret Escapes website. The style of the hotel is 'country home' with ornate old fashion decor and style. My wife quoted saying it is like a national trust home without the red barriers which is very true.

There are also extensive and very pretty gardens which you are allowed to walk around. Including Sheep to look at in one of the fields. Is very relaxing to sit outside and read a book.

Our Room overlooked the back gardens and was functional. Be aware of the fact there are not a lot of modern conveniences in the room. The Television only had about 12 channels available (no Itv or channel 4.) The wardrobe and chest of drawers in the room is located in a very large bathroom. The shower was superb. There is a turn down service for the bed in the evening which was nice. There is also free water (still and sparkling), fruit, Tea and Coffee available in the rooms. The bed in the room was a double and was comfortable to sleep in. Due to the age of the hotel the floorboards do creak but we found this added to the feeling of the place.

With the deal booked we had five course taster menus booked on both evenings as part of the price. The food is of an excellent quality with real variation. The meals included (starters, fish course, main course, sorbet and dessert.) The food style is alacarte with great taste.

Breakfast was also included in the deal we did. Again there was a vast choice including free pastries and toast with our choices.

The waiting staff were very friendly and attentive throughout. My wife has a Wheat allergy and the Chef was able to cater for this throughout our stay without any issues.

Be aware though there is a 12.5% service charge on all meals and water on the table is charged for.

Whilst stopping at the hotel we visited Oxford, the Cotswolds Wildlife Park and Bicester Outlet village (which the hotel gave us a 10% gift card for)

Overall we had a lovely stay in the hotel which made our second anniversary very special.

We planned to have a few days in Salisbury but wanted to look round Oxford and the surrounding area on the way. We spotted an offer from Secret Escapes and booked a nights stay at the Manor. The location is excellent just off the M40 and A34 and the approach up to the hotel is very striking. Registration was very easy and the girl who received us was very pleasant and helpful. The entrance hall and other public rooms were tastefully decorated and in keeping with the age and character of the rest of the building. When we were shown into our allocated room (room 8) we were very disappointed as the room was very small with a worn carpet and two dining chairs. The wardrobe was in the bathroom which was larger than the bedroom! Both rooms were clean.
We were on the five course taster menu for dinner which was served in the impressive baronial hall and this meal was very good as was the service. The chef here is one to be admired. Breakfast was also good but we were surprised that there was no buffet table for cereals, fruit, cold meats etc.and these were served to you by the waitress.
On checking out we were met by the manager who explained that the hotel had recently changed hands and was in the middle of refurbishment. It is clear that a lot of money has been spent on refurbishing the public rooms and gardens which are beautiful and attention is now turning to the bedrooms. Our room 8 is due to be reconfigured and updated in the next few weeks as is the whole of the coach house. If the rooms are improved to the standard seen in the public rooms then this hotel is well on the way to becoming a superb hotel and worthy of a visit.

Room Tip: Check that you have a room that has been refurbished

My husband and I just spent a weekend at the Manor and truly had a great time.
First it is a beautiful 15th century building with gorgeous historical paneled rooms. We stayed 2 nights in a refurbished light room with a magnificent view over the garden.
All the staff, from the very diligent manager who was always hands on, to the barmaid, maitre D, gardener, receptionist, were very welcoming yet discreet and eager to please.
Our son (boarding at the Dragon) came to visit and had fun running on the vast grounds, playing hide and seek and even swimming in the open pool (the walled garden keeps the sun heat).
We had a delicious dinner the first night and were booked by the hotel the next evening to dine at the local pub they recently took over, which was simple but quite good. I would highly recommend for people looking to visit Oxford (15 minutes away) but who want to have the comfort and privacy of a private manor. We will be back.

I booked this hotel as a surprise for my husband's birthday and we were very impressed. The staff were all extremely professional and welcoming, the food was excellent and the rooms very comfortable. The grounds are beautifully kept. It was a little challenging with a wheelchair as it is quite hard to push on loose stones but it wasn't a real problem. We would be very happy to return and would highly recommend this hotel.
