“Disappointing experience at 5 Star costs”
Reviewed September 9, 2013

The location of this hotel is excellent and the staff are attentive and friendly. Unfortunately my (attic) room 10 left much to be desired. The decor was poor and in need of refresh and the ambience in the room during a moderately warm night was tropical with no air conditioning or fan facility. We had to keep windows wide open and were disrupted by noise from departing guests late at night. I would be very cautious about booking this hotel when better options (classified as lower star ratings, but vastly superior) exist in the area. On the plus side, breakfast was excellent as was the environment of the restaurant and the waiting staff.

Room Tip: Don't accept Room 10 - we did and regret it

Just arrived back from an overnight stay at The Manor Weston on the Green. The booking was made through Secret Escapes and included 7 course taster menu plus breakfast. Could not fault the hotel. It is beautiful surrounded by wonderful gardens with little secret areas and a swimming pool. Unfortunately too cold to use but even in cool weather looked very inviting. On arrival staff were very welcoming and helpful. We were put in a recently refurbished four poster bedroom overlooking the front of the hotel. Room very clean and comfortable with bathrobes, Molton Brown toiletries, complementary bowl of fruit and bottles of water. Also included tea making facilities. Bathroom was spotless.
Berties Bar is very cosy. Make beautiful Gin & Tonics if a little expensive. Evening meal consisted of 7 taster meals. Very tasty and beautifully presented. Not huge portions but were full by the end of the meal. The waiters were very attentive and helpful
After a good nights sleep breakfast was served in the dining room. We both had full English with toast, coffee and orange juice. Once again beautifully presented.
In the package the hotel also includes complimentary transport to Bicester Village and a 10% discount voucher.
I can thoroughly recommend this hotel and would definitely use Secret Escapes again who were very efficient

we stayed at weston manor for two nights and i wish it could have been longer. The hotel is first class, bedrooms are so comfortable and clean. The bed was very large and comfortable with colour tv and en suite shower bath and toilet The toilet area was scrupously clean and well maintained. A complimentary bowl of fruit was delivered and refreshed daily The drinking water was delivered in a sealed bottle every night with two fresh bottles of water on the dressing table in case of further refreshment. We stayed in room 10 which was at the top of the manor with breathtaking views over well maintained gardens. Afternoon tea was served in the garden with a grand selection of cakes. The breakfast and dinner was cooked to perfection with a good selection of items for both meals. The staff could not have been friendlier and more attentive and we were made to feel welcome and valued as guests. Yes i would stay there again anytime and would recommend it to family and friends. the newspaper was promptly delivered eah morning upon request.

Room Tip: we had room 10 which had excellent views

We made a booking in February to stay at the Manor, for two nights in October for our daughters wedding, to be held in the Village Church and the reception on land adjoining the Manor. We received prompt confirmation of our booking.

In August we received a curt phone call from an assistant advising that our booking had to be cancelled as the hotel was overbooked. I explained our position and asked for a call from the manager. Another call ensued from a receptionist who advised that we could not stay as the hotel had been booked for a 50th Birthday party. Again I asked for a manager to call me. He did eventually and said their booking system had gone wrong. He then admitted that they had received a group booking. After some persuasion he offered a diiner and (possibly) a nights stay at some future date and that he would confirm. Needless to say he hasn't!

We now have to stay some miles from our daughters wedding.

There are numerous lovely hotels around Oxford and in the Cotswolds and we recommend that you select one that honours it's reservations.

We booked a two night stay through Secret Escapes as a celebration of our 20 year wedding anniversary. We stayed in room 2 in the main house which is the smallest room shown on the hotel plan. It was pleasant enough but a little small for two people with luggage for a two night stay. It overlooked the entrance drive and the car park and therefore wasn't very private. There was no seating area and on the second night we did not receive the turn down service.
The price we paid included breakfast and the tasting menu. I agree with the previous review that the tasting menu is only in effect only three courses and these are extremely small. On the second night we expected the menu to have changed but in fact we were presented with exactly the same menu as the night before. It was eventually agreed that we could choose off the a la carte menu but the amount of debate that ensued before it was agreed was perplexing seeing as the a la carte is significantly lower in price.

The staff were very friendly and helpful but i would hope so seeing as a whopping 12.5% service charge is added to everything you order. Excellent service should the norm and guests should not be expected to pay extra for it. This is the reason I have only rated the service as average.

On check out we expected to be charged the discretionary 12.5% service charge on the extras we had ordered. What we did not expect was to be charged this on the evening meals that had already been paid for when booking with secret escapes.

When we returned home I e-mailed the hotel to complain about this. I received an e-mail back apologising and saying that as a gesture of goodwill they would refund all of our service charge.
That was welcomed however actually receiving this refund was very frustrating. I called and gave my credit card details and asked for confirmation of refund however none was received. I called and asked to speak to the sender of the e-mail several times over a number of days but despite calling at various times of the day was told she was in a meeting but would call me back as soon as she was available. No call was ever received. Eventually I rang and insisted on speaking to the manager who surprise surprise was in a meeting. It was only then that the girl who answered the call decided to make the refund herself (probably because she'd had enough of fobbing me off)

In summary the hotel building is lovely, food was very poor value for the money and although recompense was made eventually it wasn't' easy to get them to fulfil their promise.

We may consider staying there again but would definitely eat elsewhere and refuse to pay any service charges.

Room Tip: Make sure your in the main house but not Room 2

We booked this hotel for a weekend in the Cotswolds and were not disappointed. The house is beautiful, intimate and the gardens small but lovely. Our room, although in the annexe was very large with a king size bed and tea making facilities. The staff could not have been more friendly, helpful and attentive but not overbearing.

We took a walk around the house in the morning, with a few sheep grazing on the lawn at the front and a grassed walkway teaming with rabbits it was hard to believe we were less than 10 minutes from Bicester outlet village.

Our meal , which was a tasting menu was very pleasant also and a full English breakfast.

it is a good 45 minutes to any of the small Cotswolds towns though but the drive is through pretty lanes and in the sunshine, did not seem that long. I am looking forward to returning to this hotel with its large fireplace and comfy sofas during the winter months.

Room Tip: Our room No 30 was very quiet despite a wedding going on during the evening. we had 2 very good nig...

We only stayed one night bed and breakfast, but the service was exceptional. The impressive manor House is full of character and the rooms are crisp and stylishly kitted out. The cooked breakfast was top rate. If you want to stay in the area and want to impress someone, this is the place.
