I stayed here for 1 night , with a group of friends (7 in total )
The hotel is managed by friendly and efficient people , and I don't think I have ever seen a hotel being cleaned with such vigour - it was almost like they were expecting a Royal visit !
Good sized bedrooms and a great breakfast complete the picture. It is very nicely situated next to Neptune's Staircase ( the series of locks on the Caledonian Canal , built by Thos Telford )
We dined at Inverlochy Castle , just 2 miles away - which was very good ( if not cheap )

This hotel is not particularly central in Fort William, but not too far away and is right next to the canal. It has a real "out in the country" feel. We had an Executive room right by the canal towpath and we could see Ben Nevis from the window. It's worth bearing in mind though that these rooms are a long walk from the reception with several flights of stairs and there is no lift, but we felt it was worth it. The room was large, bright and clean and had a DVD player. The food in the restaurant was very good and the service was excellent and very friendly. The reception staff were very helpful and friendly too. Overall a good place to stay in this area.

We stayed at the moorings for a couple of nights and i can honestly say it was an absolute pleasure. The staff were very friendly and helpfull. We were booked B/B as this is all they do but there is a restaurant and bar meals available all day. We dined in the lounge for a bar supper and the food was delicious. I would certainly recommend this to any visitor in the highlands. The rooms were excellent and the choice at breafast was to die for. Do not miss this hotel.

We spent one night at the Moorings. Our room overlooked Neptune’s Steps. It was cozy and well appointed. We arrived mid afternoon and were treated to seeing boats in the locks and the also the steam train pass-by. It was a good location to see Fort William and the Glenfinnan Monument. The pub was welcoming and the hardy breakfast sent us on way the next morning. We would recommend this hotel.

The Moorings, as indicated by the name, sits directly in front of a set of small working locks--we got to see a fairly large sailboat enter before we had to be on our way. The landscaping was lovely, even during our stay, past summer's end. The rooms are spacious and bright. The bathroom freshly and completely remodeled. The pub food was outstanding (we've gotten a bit too old for a three or four course dinner after six so thoroughly enjoyed the pub). Breakfast, both a cold continental breakfast (with plain yogurt, which is not common), and the hot breakfast were good. The dining room a very pleasant area. Our room, #24, was a very long way--up and down 3 sets of steps--from the entry and reception, but someone was willing to help us with bags, and I rather enjoyed the novelty.

Having left it to the last minute to book accommodation in the Fort William area I used Trip Advisor to find out the best recommended hotels and B & B's that had availability. The Moorings came highly recommended and our visit did nothing to dispel this.

Having arrived late on our first night (circa 9:15pm) we were starving and decided to order room service. Unfortunately the kitchen was closed but the hotel were still able to kindly russell up a couple of bowls of chips and a jug of ice water, which arrived promptly. Very much appreciated.

I expected a minimum charge for room service as stated in the hotel booklet, but when we settled our bill they only charged for the chips. Very kind of them I think, as we had asked the hotel to deliver things to the room on at least three occasions.

Location wise it is well positioned, right next to Neptune's Staircase and only 5 mins drive from Fort William centre.

If I am honest there is nothing bad to say about the hotel at all, except for the following points, hence why not all the categories above got full marks. In my opinion the following are minor details and should not deter anyone from booking here in the future; if we ever decide to return to Fort William, The Moorings will definitely be on the list for places to stay:
Room and en-suite decor slightly dated, but not offensive
Water marks (stains) on the tea pot
Mark on the inside lip of the sugar bowl
En-suite toilet seat needs adjustment (kept falling down when lifted up) and was slack so shifted to the side when you sat on it
On the first night we arrived, there was a spider and its web hanging in the corner of the en-suite (this could have appeared after the room was initially cleaned)
Cobweb hanging from pendant light fitting in bedroom
Having returned from our day out, we found the empty water jug and tray (from the previous night) still in our room even though the room had been cleaned.

Having had a fraught day travelling, we were directed to the restaurant by the B&B we were staying in, and having no other real awareness of the area (and the time to explore as late) we ventured along. Very pleased we did too! Very polite and efficient staff, quick but not rushed service; really good food - can't remember exactly what we had but it was souffle to start, and fish for mains - all really good. I might agree with other reviews about side orders of veg being served with food, although we were pleasantly full.
Over all, very good, friendly staff, a very good surprise, i.e. not on our original plan but glad we visited.
