“A great, centrally located and beautiful place!”
Reviewed February 21, 2014

My wife and I just returned from a week stay at the Hideaways at Palm Bay. We had an ocean front villa and enjoyed the premises and staff. Everyone was very helpful and nice (especially Latovia at the front desk). We also met the owner who was on site and he was very accommodating. They make you feel as if you have known them for years.

The hotel grounds are well kept and our room was very clean and large. We had no issues with the room or the grounds at all and would highly recommend this place.

The on-site restaurant/bar called, “The Splash” was great. We found the food great and Pablo the cook is extremely friendly! Be aware, the hamburgers here are HUGE!

If you can swing it, I would suggest getting an ocean front/view villa. They are literally feet away from the beach. Otherwise, the other rooms are across the street from the main part of the hotel.

The hotel provides free shuttle service (on a schedule) around town which was a nice. The hotel is also directly across the street from Thompson’s Car Rentals which made this very convenient. All in all, we found this place to be centrally located pretty much in the middle of it all. The famous “Fish Fry” shacks are within a 10 minute walk and you also have a couple of other great restaurant choices next door as well (We loved Latitudes).

All in all we loved this place and wouldn’t hesitate to go back. If I had to give any constructive criticism I would ask to clarify about the “free continental breakfast”. We found they charged us a $20 a day fee for this at final bill time. The continental breakfast in our opinion was not worth that (coffee, yogurt, a couple pieces of fruit, and bread). Had we known it wasn’t free, we would have asked to opt out of the “breakfast plan” as indicated on our bill.

But again, not to end on a low note, this is a fabulous centrally located place that is packed full of friendly staff and immaculate grounds! Still gets an “A” grade in our book and we won't hesitate to come back and stay here!

Room Tip: At the least, get a ocean view/front villa. They are steps away from the beach. The basic rooms ar...

We just returned from a week in Ed and Rachel's villa #34 right on the beach at Hideaways. It has every amenity you will need to enjoy a relaxing vacation with an amazing view from every room. It has two large bedrooms with en-suite baths. Pack light because there's new, front loading laundry machines. Full kitchen allows you to do as much cooking as you might want or rent a gas grill.

The staff and owners are awesome! They are very accommodating and helpful. A shuttle runs to Georgetown every two hours during the day and is very close to the fish fry. The locals are very friendly and polite, no vendors trying to sell you something every step you take.

You can't find a more beautiful to stay than Exuma. Small, quiet if you are looking for a party place this is not it but it is paradise! We can't wait to go back, one week was not enough.

Thank you for your review.

We are glad that you found our location convenient and what you were looking for. The locals here in Exuma are extremely friendly and helpful, always a welcoming smile and wave hello.
The shuttle bus is a great way to save money during your visit with the taxi cost to Georgetown running approximately $ 10.00 each way. We are happy you enjoyed your visit with us.

Again, thank you for reviewing us and for choosing Hideaways Exuma...hurry back!

:)

We just spent 5 days at the Hideaways and were very pleased with the property. We rented a beach front unit (2 queen beds) and found the room to be spacious and very clean. The property itself was very clean, the staff very friendly and helpful. It's also centrally located, just a mile or so from George Town. The restaurant is very clean and you can get decent meal. You can walk to Jolly Hall beach which is beautiful and there's a few good places to eat close by. The properties beach is narrow but it was clean. The water is shallow for a good ways out but beautiful. We didn't see anyone with children while there as there's not a lot for them to do anywhere on the island. Rent a car if you go because you'll want to travel around the island. Go to Santana's on the eastern end of the island for a good meal. While there ask for directions to Tropic of Cancer beach, it's gorgeous. The road to it will scare you but it's worth the fright.

The amenities have improved. Our cottage is right on the water. Staff is cordial. There is a workout room, shuttle to town, and the restaurant staff and food have improved. The overall impression is that the property has been very well maintained. The staff is very helpful. 5 stars! Only complaint is that the neighboring club had VERY loud music on Friday night, and we needed to awaken early the next day.

Room Tip: Be advised that the hilltop rooms are not on the ocean, but across the street.

Pros: Excellent location with beautiful beach access, pool, amenities, close to town. Gorgeous view of Elisabeth Harbour. Very convenient to town and the Fish Fry area. Staff overall was friendly. Restaurant seems to be a real hot-spot on certain nights with pool tables, live entertainment and a good varied menu at reasonable prices. Popular enough that they do an amazing take-out pizza biz, and folks on their fancy boats on the other side of the harbor come in on their dingys. Close to other dining/cocktail options on the beach.

Cons: Not pleased with our reception checking in because my husband was wearing a t-shirt from another local resort. Didn't exactly make us feel welcome, and was repeated a short time later by one of the property owners. Instead of saying "welcome, we're glad you've chosen to stay with us", we got a bunch of grief. There was a layer of dust on the refrigerator in our room and the first glass I pulled from the cabinets was less than clean. Also, parking in front of the oceanfront rooms is very limited. Most parking is across the street and they don't help with your luggage. Trying to cross the street with luggage is very dangerous as the locals don't observe the speed limits coming around the corners despite it being in the "hotel zone" 25 MPH. We booked an oceanfront deluxe 1 bedroom that was supposed to have 2 bathrooms (Villa 27). However the "second" bathroom was only a toilet and sink inside the bedroom area, so of little use to someone using the pullout bed.

The staff is great, and the property has a lot to offer, but you need to manage the expectations for this one.

Room Tip: Villa 27 is not a good choice if you are traveling with someone other than children for the pull out...

We stayed in 2-bedroom condo with a ocean view. The hotel itself isn't super fancy but can satisfy all our needs. However, i'd prefer to have a better Wi-Fi and larger TV (when you want to stay away from the sun or after hours) in the room. The owner of the hotel along with his personnel will do their best to make you feel comfortable there. Splash bar is great - fresh food and cool drinks. Talk to Anita and she'll make you the best mango margarita or strawberry daiquiri and provide all the necessary information on the local events and places. She's awesome! Instead of being attached to the shuttle hours which is of great inconvenience you can rent a car from the front desk if desired! Gorgeous Jolly Hall Beach is within a walking distance from here!

Room Tip: When you come to the Exuma, no matter where you stay, the beach is everywhere, so take the cheaper o...
