Great, peaceful location. Unfortunately let down by it's owner. Quite abrupt on arrival and later complained we were disturbing her when we went to buy wood for the fire. Didn't feel welcome at all. The site is advertised as family friendly. It also states that children should be in tent area by 9:30pm which while we were there everyone adhered to. However at 5pm on one of the days as children were playing happily, the owner went over and said quite aggressively that if they weren't quiet she'd take the rope swing away. This happened again later at 8pm. There were no rowdy children on site, the ones we met were so polite. It was just kids happily laughing, playing, making friends, having fun in the outdoors, as children should do. Despite being advertised as such, children are clearly not welcome here. To the miserable adults that complained, if you don't like to hear kids happy and enjoying themselves go to an adults only site, perhaps not in school holidays. We left a day early and weren't the only ones. Such a shame as site was lovely, albeit with hygiene issues as stated in other reviews.

A hideaway in the mountains. A great site as long as you don't go expecting all mod cons and luxuries. It is what it is. After a tricky drive up a narrow lane you get to this gorgeous site. Pitches are generously sized. The owner is very friendly and couldn't be more helpful. We were there the last week of August so it wasn't that busy and the one shower per gender wasn't an issue. I imagine it could be in high season. Toilets and showers were always clean and there was ample hot water, although the shower lacked a bit of power. The provision of firepits is a great idea and worth while as it dropped cold at night. It is high up after all. Beautiful scenery and not far to great beaches or walks if you're feeling energetic. We'll probably be back at some point.

My wife and I had a great stay in one of the sites glamping bell tents, complete with it's own hot tub.
We had visited the site 7 years previously with our then 10 year old son and enjoyed our stay, so we were looking forward to our return.
We were not disappointed.
We arrived late due to an event we had to attend. This was not a problem and we were shown to our tent by site owner Einir. The tent was of a good size with a large bed.Electric fire,tv, etc. Outside there was 2 chairs, picnic table, fire pit and a tripod grill to cook over the log fire.Evenings around the log fire were very relaxing.we found the toilet and shower facilities adequate and didn't have to wait at any point.
The only minor problem we experienced was when a group of young children began loudly chanting "heave - ho" repeatedly for some time. Their parents didn't say anything and the site owner had to ask the children to be quiet and think of others. which the children did.
There are plenty things in the area for adults and children to keep occupied as well as great beaches.
The local pub (the victoria) serves great food and has a super beer garden.
Einir at the site will give advice on various activities around the area as well selling wood for your fire pit.
A definite must for the evenings.
A great break and I'm sure we will return in the future.

Mark and Alison Halliwell.

We camped at this site in August 2019 and the location is fantastic. The pitches are huge and each pitch has a picnic bench and fire pit which was a really nice touch. The location is very isolated which we loved. The only downside was the showers/toilets were okay but not great. There was also a lack of information provided. There were two notice boards one at the entrance to each toilets. The board by the male toilets was empty and to look at the other board you had to go down an alley and stand outside the ladies. The owner was on hand to answer any questions but I just felt like I had to ask lots of questions to find info that could have been provided.

Room tip: Look at all the pitches before choosing. We only saw some secluded pitches after setting up.

We have just returned from a brilliant few days staying in a bell tent with it's own hot tub. This campsite completely lives up to the name-a definite hideaway in the hills-and what a stunning place it is too. The whole campsite is so quiet and picturesque, with all the facilities you need from a camping holiday. The lovely owner was really helpful and friendly. She works so hard but nothing was too much trouble. We would certainly recommend this site and can't wait to return at some point.
