“Bushwalking at its best”
Reviewed February 20, 2013

This was one experience we will not forget. We were truly blessed with the best weather ever and the views were out of this world. This organisation is one of the best, everyone was amazing. The guides were so very very good and contributed so very much to making this one fantastic experience. The food, showers, beds, cabins, wines all great. The walking was not easy but rewarding. Some of the most magnificent forests in the world. We can not praise our experience enough. Well done everyone.

Hi Joketravel,

What a wonderful review – thanks. It sounds like from start to finish you had an amazing walk which is just great. The guides are amazing and as I have said in other responses we are just so lucky to have such a fabulous bunch of passionate people to work with.

We hope to see you back down in Tassie at some stage.

Cheers, Ros

Excellent guides, small group of ten people, beautiful scenery. Accommodations: compared to being in a tent -- excellent. Compared to the Milford Track in NZ, not as nice. But very good. They should say: For a 30 year old, you need to be fit to do this trek. For a 60 year old, you need to be VERY fit. Only negative was incessant flies. I would recommend this hike to the adventurous.

Hi Glenn,

Thanks for taking the time to review us on tripadvisor – we really appreciate it. I am pleased you found our guides to be excellent, they do make the walk so special. I would love to hear more about the accommodation on the Milford Track to see if there is anything imporvements we can implement. If you would like to contact me directly to discuss further that would be great. As for the flies….I am pleased I have not had this experience up in the mountains but can understand it would not be pleasant.

Cheers, Ros

We were keen to walk the Overland track in Tasmania, but being "mature" were keen for the comforts of life - food, wine, hot showers and a comfortable bed, at the end of each day, especially given the unpredictable weather at Cradle Mountain. The Cradle Mountain Huts were the perfect solution for us- and the experience was even better than we expected, and well worth the price. The level of pampering, the comfort and cheer of the huts, the wonderful guides really contributed massively to our enjoyment of this stunning walk. We had rain (mostly) sleet, hail, snow and sunshine (occasionally) in what should have been summer, but no condition is too bad when you can get out of the wet muddy gear, and into a hot shower at the end of the day, and then sit down to hot scones and coffee! The logistics of running such a classy operation in this remote countryside are amazing . The huts are so well stocked, the food varied, nourishing and (very) plentiful, and accompanied by fine Tasmanian wines. The guides are amazing - working from early morning, through the day, and all evening to keep us so well-looked after. Well done on every aspect of this organisation!!

Hi jgsSydney_Australia,
Thanks for your review. I am pleased you had a great experience on the Overland Track with us. I think the added comforts of the huts, food and wine do make a walk in challenging weather that much more enjoyable. It’s reassuring to know when you go to bed your gear is drying in the drying room!
We work really hard on the different menus in the huts so it’s great you felt the food was varied and nourishing. Working in such a remote location creates some interesting challenges!
As always the guides are the real stars and we are lucky to be working with such a great bunch of people.
Cheers Ros

This is a most wonderful experience. As 50 somethings and moderate bush walkers we found it challenging! The weather is really not an issue as every weather pattern brings a new experience:eg we had lots of rain, but saw the waterfalls at winter levels, in December. Cradle Mountain Huts were fabulous to deal with, the guides were amazing -their love of the area and their people skills made it a wonderful time. The huts were great, food and wine just lovely. We could not believe the diversity of the area, forests, plains, waterfalls, lakes - every day was amazing. Tips? Poles, really comfy clothes for the huts, some money for the Lake St Clair end, and just do it!

Hi tassiestourers,
Thanks for your review. It sounds like you had a fantastic walk with us and I agree the changes in weather are all part of the experience. The waterfalls with a winter flow are impressive!
I think people are often surprised at how different each day of the walk is from rainforest to open moorland. It really is very spectacular.
We are really proud of the guides we have working with us - they are all incredibly passionate and knowledgable which adds a whole new dimension to bushwalking.
We hope to see you back in the mountains at some stage.
Cheers, Ros

This is 'glamping' at its best - the wonderful and (dare I say) awesome physical experience of walking / climbing in wild and spectacular Tasmania but with pampered and even luxurious treatment at the end of each day's walk. Yes it is costly but I have no regrets about this - really, what price do you put on peak lifetime experiences. It does require fitness and preparation - half of the 8 walkers on our trip were over 65 but fit and regular walkers. My wife was not keen on carrying a backpack, but the packs provided as part of the deal were very comfortable and there were no complaints with the <10kg weight.

Hi tav-mind,
I am really glad you had a great walk and feel that not only did you enjoy Tasmania's spectacular wild places and the huts but you felt you received value for money. A certain level of fitness is required but like you said when carrying a lighter pack it really is achievable.
As a team we really appreciate you taking the time to review your time with us on TripAdvisor.

Did the 3 day bay of fires walk and found it a fantastic experience. the group size is ideal - max of 10 but we only had 7 with two guides. The walk starts with a pick up in Launceston and a drive to Quanmbry estate and a pack check. then after a briefing we drove to the start of the walk at stubby's bay and carrying our own gear for the next 3 days set out on the first part of the walk - 9 km to the first camp which is a bush camp with a difference. fixed tents and composting toilets. The guides had carried the food and served up an excellent 3 course meal of 'nibbles' followed by Atlantic Salmon and chocolate mousse. Then off the bed in the permanent tents - wooden floors and canvas roof.
Next morning after a leisurely breakfast we set off on the longest day - 16 km but at a gentle pace with plenty of stops to look at the view and have snacks. We arrived at 4:30 at the luxorious lodge to be greeted with afternoon tea of freshly baked cake. Then w checked into our twin share rooms ( but as the tour was not full- I got a room to myself). Simple with a bed and electric lights. Showers and toilets down the corridor.
After another excellent meal it was early bed to prepare for the next day which involved an optional ( but included in the price) kayaking trip down the river. Again excellently guided and they even helped me when I found a recent injury was making it difficult for me to complete the trip.
The day finished with a stroll along the beach and back for more home cooked food.
The final day has a free morning before a 1 hour walk out to the bus and the trip back to Launceston via a local windy.
36km all up - mainly flat beach ,walking - highly recommended and the tour company were fantastic

I bucket lister for sure.
We had a great group and fantastic guides. Couldn't fault them as they made our 6 day walk the most memorable we've ever had.
Doing the snow traverse and climbing to Mt Ossa was just one of the hugely inspiring experiences.
Bay of Fires is on our to do list.

Hi Mark,
Thanks so much for your Trip Advisor review - I am really pleased you had such a great walk. Ossa in the snow is a spectacular sight and a challenging climb but well worth the effort!
I hope you can come down and join us for our Bay of Fires Lodge Walk at some stage.
