Whispering Chimneys Bed & Breakfast
Reviewed September 8, 2012

We had a very nice overnight stay in this quiet village. Our room was very comfortable, modern and clean and had its own entrance with everything you need. The breakfast was a very good quality continental and provided in the room with cereals, yoghurts, fresh fruits, meats, cheese, juices and toasts etc. A cooked breakfast could be requested and eaten in your room or the main house at an extra cost. The local pub 'The Talbot' is a good option for dinner. Very nice, friendly owners.

We stayed here for one night on our way from London to Cornwall. (£75 on LateRooms) It was just like having our own flat for the night - the owner called us and said she was out that evening but she'd leave the keys in the door for us, which was perfect, and told us how safe it must be. We let ourselves in and went upstairs to a lovely big bright loft room, which could have had a carpet to make it a bit warmer (psychologically), but had a big comfortable bed, a further sofa bed, and a dining area with everything you could want for breakfast to have at your leisure, which was a real plus.

The only downside is the location. You can't walk to any pubs or restaurants for dinner (The Talbot in Blandford Forum is the obvious choice, excellent menu) and taxis are hard to come by (there are two companies, but both in towns 2 miles in either direction - they won't come out very late, or will charge for the privilege if they decide to). So if you're happy driving it's perfect, but if you don't want to be the designated driver, stay at the Talbot itself and spend the money you'd spend on a taxi anyway!

Whispering Chimneys is located in the lovely Dorset countryside, part-way between Shaftesbury and Blandford Forum. It is very easy to find, especially if you follow landlady Georgie's instructions. Georgie (and her young family) will also give you a very warm welcome when you arrive. The accommodation is in an annexe separate from the house, so you can come and go as you please. There is plenty of room for parking.

The accommodation itself is new, clean and decorated in a modern style, with nice homely touches. On the flagstone ground floor there is an entrance area and a good-sized bathroom with a very powerful shower. On the first floor is a bright open-plan living space with double bed, sofa (that converts into more beds), TV (with Freeview), dining set, chests of drawers, fridge and sideboard. The fridge and sideboard contain everything you need for a continental breakfast. This is convenient, as you can have breakfast whenever you feel like it. The fridge is also big enough to store your own food/drink items. There is a kettle and plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits. Georgie has also stocked the room with magazines and local information. I understand that toys are available on request, and there is a garden round the back of the annexe for guests' use.

The only negative feature I can think of is that there isn't much hanging space, but really this isn't going to affect you unless you plan for a long stay.

Whispering Chimneys is a beautiful property. We had a very relaxing and happy stay and highly recommend this place to all.
