Sun Island ECO Village

I stayed in the tents for 2 nights and really wish it could have been longer. The scenery is amazing with white sand and crystal clear waters. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the food and drinks are delicious.
The tent has everything you need - furniture, a fan, a comfortable mattress, a lamp and the sound of the ocean just a few steps away. Each tent also has it's own bathroom hut right next to it.

Tip: go for a swim at night and see the bioluminescence (amazing!)

We spent three nights at Sun Island and we loved it. The tents are very comfortable and waking up every morning to the sound of the ocean 15 steps away was amazing.
The staff are great, very kind and helpful and the food is easily the best on the island (we ate at quite a few places.) I loved the mackerel wrapped in bacon and the gigantic prawns, as well as all the Asian dishes we sampled.
We locked our valuables away at the bar, as recommended, and we had no problems.
The boat trip was a lot of fun, we did a bit of fishing on the way, then on the way back it was a bit of a party boat with songs and dancing and a few drinks.
Overall, great place and we are already planning our next stay.

Thank you!

Spent 3 nights here in a tent and were very comfortable overall. The food is reasonably priced for the island, although drinks and water are a bit expensive (offering cheap water refills would seem to be a good idea given the supposed "eco" marketing [we found refills at Lazy Beach and Robinson for 50 cents]- and instant coffee at about $2 is rip off). All food was very good - fish was excellent - a notable failure though was that our snapper was not descaled. The restaurant area has a nice pool table. On arrival we were advised to place valuables in secure box in the reception area as the tents are not secured - we did this with no problems. Unfortunately, another visitor in the next tent had valuables stolen having not followed this advice - I would suggest this could be a risk anywhere on the island not just at this resort so just be aware. There are a lot of resorts now being built on the island - this is one of many on a long beach on one side of the island - still beautiful, but by no means are you on your own. Lazy beach, on the other side of the island, is the only resort with a beach to itself. Robinson and huba-huba share another beach. Also be aware that the same company owns the "Sun Boat" and runs a daily boat tour. This is a convenient transfer option, except that they land on the beach right at the resort through the surf (getting you and luggage wet), rather than on the nearby jetty. Also, daily the Sun Boat deposits 30 plus day tour tourists for about 3 hours right into right where you are staying... Overall a good option but this is no longer a deserted tropical paradise....

We planned to stay on Koh Rong Samloem for 3 nights, but ended up staying for 5 because it's so chilled and beautiful. In all honesty, we only booked Sun Island Eco Village because Lazy Beach and Huba Huba were full, but after visiting both those places while we were on the island, we think we made the best choice!

For the money (half the price of LB or HH) you get a great spacious tent right on the beach. Sure, it's not a wooden bungalow, but we loved the rustic camping vibe. The bathroom isn't attached (it's a separate building next door to each tent), but it's private, spacious and clean. No hot water, but after a day in the sun you don't need it. Surprisingly, very few bugs about the place too (apart from mosquitoes but that's a given in SE Asia). The fan in our tent stopped working after the first night because of the lack of sun for the solar panels, but the lights worked and the fan wasn't totally missed.

Danny was very helpful when we made the booking, he arranged a free tuk tuk to pick us up from our guesthouse in Sihanoukville and take us to Victory beach pier to catch their boat to Koh Rong Samloem. The boat was big and it was a calm crossing. We stopped on the way for snorkeling, but the coral wasn't the best, visibility was bad and there wasn't much to see. The included lunch was just ok, but overall it's the most convenient way to get to the resort.

The resort is on Saracen Bay, the largest of the beaches on KRS. It's a gorgeous white sand beach, with turquoise blue water, and there are a few different resorts dotted along the bay. If you have the budget to spend a lot more money, the VIP bungalows at the Beach Resort and Club looked amazing (just out of our budget).

The resort has a great bar and restaurant, the food was excellent - highly recommend the mackerel wrapped in bacon and the bacon cheese burger! The hosts are extremely friendly. We also ate at Lazy Beach which was excellent, and an easy 30 minute walk to the other side of the island through the jungle. That beach is golden sand, fabulous sunset, but sand flies were annoying. Huba Huba is a good 45-60 minute walk from Saracen Bay, it's quite strenuous up a hill, and definitely not to be done in the dark. That beach is also golden sand, very peaceful and where the dive shop is located (cleanest/calmest water too). Food was good there and worth the trip just for the mars bar crepe!

There isn't much to do on KRS so expect a relaxed few days. You can snorkel but we didn't. There is currently no wifi but we understand it's coming to the island soon. I'd go so far to say that's a bit of a shame because being without Internet and phone for a few days makes this the perfect retreat.

This was my ending of my 3 months in SEA. What a way to end it. Stayed in the delux bungalow, which couldn't have been any better. Beach front with patio, large front doors to have the air and surf sound lull you to sleep, private bathroom, big bed. The food...the best on the island with their fresh fish filets cooked to perfection with garlic or salsa, nice salad. Breakfasts and lunches great also with a large variety of choices. The tents looked very comfy and all the people said they were great. I still like the idea of private bathrooms, though. Being in the middle of the bay, it's close to every place on the island. When the wind blows, you can hike across the island to Lazy Beach which will be tranquil, and be lazy over there. If the wind shifts, you do the opposite. I really enjoyed my stay there, would highly recommend it, and the staff were fantastic, warm, very efficient. Always a cold beer at the ready. Pool table also to blow an afternoon. But have the food!

Room Tip: Kick in the extra money and do the delux bungalows. Only two of them right on the beach.

The Beach Front Bungalow Tents were lovely to sleep in. We woke up every morning to the most amazing view we have found in South East Asia. Saracen Bay is a fantastic location. The French Manager of the resort is a great guy and knows most of the trails on the island. We had a great walk across the island through the jungle. We borrowed snorkeling gear and walked 35 minutes to a reef off the west coast of the island. The marine life there is fantastic. We highly recommend this resort..ps try the food in the restaurant its delicious!!

Room Tip: They all looked pretty nice.

We found the bungalow tent to be very comfortable. There are no air conditioned rooms available on the island. This was the only place with 24hr electric as they have solar power. Lazing in the tent with an extra roof on top to keep the midday blazing sun off whilst looking out at the beach!!, it was a lovely place to stay and had a nice area for chilling in front of the tent also.. It was like 10 meters to the waters edge. We thought it was magnificent. Our favorite thing was going for a swim at night with the water lighting up around us. Beautiful Phosphorescent water..

Room Tip: Rooms on the south side are quieter.
