The Secret at Peak Serenity
Reviewed October 20, 2013

This was our second visit and just as good as the first. The cottage has everything you could need with comfy sofas and a well-equipped kitchen. The underfloor-heated bathroom and beautiful view from the bedroom are lovely.

It's a short walk to Robin Hood's Stride (featuring in The Princess Bride) and a short drive from other good walks and the lovely town of Bakewell. Always assured of a warm welcome from Christine.

Situated perfectly if you want to do some decently long or (what we prefer) some more modest walks, the secret feels like a real hideaway. A tranquil and completely rural setting, you really can get away from it all if that's what you want.

The apartment is gorgeous, with everything you could wish for - a well equipped kitchen, a really comfy sofa you won't want to emerge from, a jacuzzi bath, a dishwasher, and bathrobes! It was spotless, cosy and a real retreat, far from the madding crowd.

However Bakewell isn't far, or Matlock, along with other places if you want a bit of civilisation. Christine was very welcoming, and the cake and tea which welcomed us was much appreciated. Thank you for a lovely break.

We arrived, our group of two couples on a Saturday afternoon. Christine, the owner, who lives on site, was there to welcome us as we drove down the country track into the large parking area. We were then shown round the property - The Secret upstairs and The Haven downstairs. Also there to welcome us were home-made cake, a bottle of red wine and some lovely strawberries.

The Secret is done out to a very high standard with every comfort - I got the impression The Haven was a slightly newer addition and perhaps was still a working process (but still extremely comfortable!)

There is a great gas BBQ to use on the patio area out at the front of the property. However the kitchen was also fully equipped and stood up to our Sunday lunch foray.

Overall a lovely property - my comments - there is a coffee shop joined on to the property - it didn't bother our party, but it is something to keep in mind.

If you're after a romantic, peaceful getaway I would definitely recommend The Secret at Peak Serenity.
