We booked this as B and B as a point to explore Derbyshire and the Peak district. The owners were away but we were looked after by the chef Steven. This is an excellent place to use as a base. The rooms are clean and comfortable. It is a quiet village but very close to all the major attractions. Stevie looked after us as though we were family, he has excellent local knowledge and is a superb cook. We enjoyed it so much we are going back next year.

This place is just what informal dining in a country pub should be all about. Old beams, roaring fire, great beer and good value home cooked food. Try the steak and ale pie, but don't have anything to eat for a few hours before otherwise you won't have room.
For dog owners, the pub has a sensible approach, permitting dogs to be brought in some rooms but not others. Will be back......

I stayed with my friend in a twin room, unfortunately the boiler had broken so there was no heating or hot water, not the owners fault as no engineers would come on a weekend. We were plenty warm enough although the no water was a bit of a pain, but we boiled the kettle and got by. The owner kindly knocked £30 off our bill so you can't say fairer than that. The room was lovely, the beds were really comfy and everything was clean and welll presented.
We had dinner in the pub, the vegi options were really limited (veg lasagne) but the food was reasonable, Standard pub fayre: Scampi and chips, fish and chips type of thing, deserts were quite nice but reheated rather than homemade. It wasn't amazing and I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there but it was nice enough if you're nearby and looking for somewhere to eat. The landlord and the bar staff were lovely as were the locals who were in there, we were made really welcome.
I'd definitely stay again if I was visiting the area.

As a start of a weekend away this lovely B&B/pub was a very nice relaxing start, the couple who ran it were very welcoming and helpful, as we were staying for a night, our room with four poster bed was small, but very comfortable and with the style and age of the building was exceptable. The menu for the evening meal was varied and the service and food were very good. At night was spent in the bar trying the various different ales, playing darts and talking to friendly bar staff and locals - all n all a very enjoyable stay.
