“A beautiful experience”
Reviewed September 14, 2011

I found this hotel on tripadvisor and after reading the reviews thought this would be an enjoyable place to take Judith (my wife) for her birthday. Well, from the very first moment we arrived on a sunny Friday it was a dream. We were welcomed by Ian and from that moment on we were treated by Alan & Ian like long lost friends. The hospitality, the rooms (We stopped in the Rowen suite) and last but not least the food, they were all amazing....and I truly mean amazing. The hotel is not large, I think they have 7 or 8 rooms, the dining room can only accomodate, I think 6 or 7 tables, but this is what makes it special. Alan and Ian make all the guests equally at home and their generous and open natures make for a wonderfull experience. Dinner is started by pre-dinner drinks before being shown to your table and Ian's standard of cooking has to be sampled to be believed and this along with Alan's attention to detail and hosting make for a great experience. I would urge all guests stopping here to book for dinner as they are remarkable. The menu choice is not large, probably 6 or 7 choices for starters and main course and puddings, but they are all exceptional. This along with Alan's hosting skills and other people have commented on his array of shoes are not to be missed. The standard of furnishings shows a tremendous attention to detail as well as flair and the whole stay was sumptious. We will definately be back. Many thanks

After 2 + years we returned to Alan and Ian's Haven of Peace and Tranquility. We treated ourselves to 4 nights. Our welcome back was like returning home and as if we had only been away a couple of weeks. The food in the evenings was tasty, special and served with style and panache. Added to the excitement of Alan's even more outrageous shoes, we were back home!
Tirycoed IS really special, almost too good to share, but we will be back. We have discovered its closer than we thought too.

Thanks for a great mini holiday, a warm welcome, and a lovely stay.

This was our second time at Tir-y-Coed, we originally stayed in May of this year and it was brilliant, we decided to come back to recharge our batteries and it was as wonderful as it was the last time, we'll be back once more this year (hopefully), and subsequent years after that, if the welcoming hosts will have us.

The rooms, the shared areas are just exquisite, and the food is simply sublime, we were made very much to feel like old friends and not just returning guests, it's a shame in a way that they close for Christmas, but nobody could begrudge such selfless people a bit of down time.

We simply cannot fault the place, we have stayed in many hotels in the UK and abroad, and Tir-y-Coed simply cannot be bettered, and is rarely equalled.

Set in beautiful countryside Tir y Coed is a haven of peace and sophistication. The genial hosts take care of your every need from the moment you step into the premises. The mood is informal and relaxed. The rooms are very clean with great attention to detail.
The food is top quality as is the personal service afforded to every guest.
Although hidden away from visitor traffic and bustle it is located only 10 mins drive from Conwy and 20 mins from the Welsh mountains giving you a host of attractions virtually on the doorstep.
Repeat visit guaranteed.

We stayed 4 nights here after reading the excellent reviews. It seems superflous to repeat everything mentioned in the other excellent reviews, except to confirm that Tir Y Coed is indeed excellent in every respect.
We stayed in the Rowen suite and were initially surprised to see the contemporary decor in contrast to the country house elegance in the public areas, but the room was spacious, very comfortable and had lovely garden views.
The attention to detail in every respect is outstanding and the quality of dining, both at breakfast and dinner is superb. Dinner and the wine list are perhaps rather expensive, but the quality and presentation cannot be faulted.
A one night stay here, without dinner, would seem such a wasted opportunity. Tir Y Coed is a place to wallow in and be self indulgent. Stay long enough to enjoy the wonderful dining and hospitality, and relax in the elegant lounges and beautiful garden.

Room Tip: Book direct and discuss your options with Ian & Allan

Tir y Coed comes very close to perfection. I chose to stay here for a weekend away with my boyfriend on the basis of the many positive Trip Advisor reviews and it did not disappoint.
The place is tastefully decorated with a classic style whilst still retaining some of the individual personality of its owners. It was immaculately clean in its entirety.
Although the room was fairly small, again it was beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. The bed was very comfortable: it was a large 6ft and the linen crisp white, complimented by luxurious feather bedding. The room was dual aspect with lovely views of the garden, and there were black out blinds on the large windows to ensure the morning sunlight did not disrupt sleep – essential! There were many thoughtful touches within the room including bottled mineral water from a nearby spring in Conwy, and a DVD player with a selection of current DVDs to choose from.
The only negative thing I could say about the room concerns the shower: the room is described as having a bath with a shower over, and although there was a shower head attached, there was no bracket on the wall to create a useable shower. Also the water pressure was poor and it was difficult to get the water to remain at a constant temperature. However, I do understand that water pressure is difficult at best in old country houses, living in one myself, so there is a limit to what can be done!
And now on to breakfast. In a word, fantastic. In fact, probably the best breakfast I have ever had at any hotel. There was delicious freshly squeezed orange juice and an unlimited supply of either tea or coffee for each table, and a buffet of cereals, yoghurt and fresh fruit to begin. I had a lovely mixture of pineapple, melon, and summer fruit with natural probiotic yoghurt; the fruit was perfectly ripe and delicious. Next came the hot course, choose from full cooked Welsh breakfast, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, or buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup to name but a few of the options. We tried the full breakfast and scrambled eggs and both were great. There was also plenty of toast.
Sadly, we did not take an evening meal at Tir y Coed, but from the breakfast I wish we had! We ate at a couple of other places around the Conwy area including the Groes Inn and The Quay hotel, but if you’re staying here I would recommend eating here – it’s priced about the same as the other places without the cost of taxis etc and I’m sure it would be worth it! Next time, I will definitely be doing so.
And finally, a word about the hosts. Alan and Ian have perfected the art of hosting just as they have perfected almost every other aspect of their business. They are charming and will bend over backwards to help you, but not at all invasive. We will be back soon!

Alan and Ian were perfect hosts. I stayed here solo while my grand daughter and her best friend stayed at the hostel in Conwy. Ian was so kind as to pick up my grand daughter and me at the Llandudno Junction train station and drive us through the gorgeous Welsh countryside to Tir-y-Coed when we arrived from London. The house's location in a picturesque rural setting was ideal for quiet relaxation. The excellent public bus system was easy and convenient to use after Ian gave me the bus schedule "book" and I figured out how to decipher the schedules. The bus stop is about a minute walk from the house. Everything about this country house is "top-drawer" as it was once owned by the family of the former British Prime Minister, Gladstone. The place is comfortable, clean and quiet, just like home! I wasn't able to partake of the house suppers; however, Alan's vegetarian breakfasts were excellent. I would definitely bring my lady friend and stay here again. If you are using the excellent bus service, it is easy to get to Conwy, Llandudno and Trefriw and Betws-y-Coed for hiking and all other "tourist" activities. I just purchased the "Red Rover" all-day bus pass most days and used the buses and taxis with my grand daughter and her friend.
