“Great day sail out of Coral Bay - secluded snorkeling spots”
Review of S/V Long Distance

S/V Long Distance
Reviewed March 26, 2013

Had a great sail with Rick, Robin and dog Kiwi. We were two couples and chartered the whole boat for the day. Left at 9:15 from the dock at Coral Bay. Snorkeled at nearly deserted bays only accessible by boat: Newfound Bay and Flanagan Island. Saw abundant sea life including Eagle Ray, Sting Ray, Moray Eel, Sea Turtle and many many colorful fish. Had good sandwiches , beer, soda, water and rum punches on board. Rick and Robin were full of local info. Arrived back at Coral Bay after a full happy day of sailing and snorkeling. Would do it again for sure!

We had a wonderful time aboard Long Distance with skippers Robin and Rick. It was a rainy day but the sailing was excellent and the sun came out exactly in time for a visit to one of the best coral reefs we'd seen in the USVI - Rick and Robin know the good spots! We had a great lunch provided by our hosts and they were extremely amicable in sharing lots of local knowledge as we sailed along. The price of the trip is very reasonable and we'd urge anyone looking for a great day trip to sign the articles aboard Long Distance! Arrrhhh. By the way, this attraction should be boosted WAY up the scale of rankings for "Things to Do" in St. John.

We had a fabulous all day trip on the Long Distance, entertained by Captain Rick, a great yarn spinner, who clued us in on the local scuttlebutt and had many tales from his colorful past ... and present! We did two snorkeling stops at places only reachable by boat. Rick and Robin know the "secret" places where few tend to go. The two other couples who shared our excursion were terrific, being interested (as we were) in sailing and snorkeling and avoiding life in the fast lane like the plague. Kiwi, the ship's "lookout," was adorable and well behaved. She barks to warn of approaching boats. Lunch was a freshly made turkey sandwich with tortilla chips and carrots and beer or soda as desired. Rum punch is for the trip home with the wind singing in the rigging and the white poofy clouds providing a periodic respite from the brilliant sun sparkling off the turquoise waters. First mate Robin comes with you while you snorkel so you don't have to worry about losing your elusive husband who is always swimming off faster than you can follow. We were chatting about places to stay on our next visit to St. John, and when I got home, there was a list of places we might like sent unasked by Robin. So nice of her!

My family of 4 took a full day sailing trip on the Long Distance with Rick and Robin. It was as advertised - sailing not motoring, quiet places - not crowds, relaxing, snorkeling - not bar hopping. We had a great day. Sailed out of Coral Bay and made 2 stops - one for snorkeling and lunch, and a second snorkeling stop. Rick and Robin were great hosts. There was another couple on board and we all got along very well. While there was plentiful food and drink, (including beer and rum punch), this is a sailing trip not a booze cruise, which is exactly what we were looking for.
