“World-class cuisine”
Reviewed August 20, 2009

Sweet Plantains is among the best restaurants at which I have ever dined. Period. This is world-class food.

My family and I visited St. John for the first time in 2008 and stayed in house we rented in Coral Bay. We ate at Sweet Plantains on our last night and it was marvelous. We talked about it for months afterward.

We returned this year, rented the same house, and driving past the restaurant we decided we would get our vacation off to a great start, so we went there our first evening and had another stellar meal. Even the kids meal for our three-year-old was delicious - the best meal he had on the island.

We wanted to eat at a few other places and see more of the island. But as the week wore on, we knew where we would eat our last meal. And, if anything, we had an even better dinner.

We'll definitely head back to the island next year and when we do, we know where our first and last meals will be again.

P.S. Our service was fantastic both nights. We've found the staff to be attentive and Rose and Prince Adams run a great shop. Rose keeps the kitchen running and Prince manages the bar, turning out some of the best drinks we've had anywhere.

“Fantastic anniversary dinner and more!”
Reviewed July 28, 2009

Far and away the best restaurant on the Coral Bay side of the island (we rarely ate on the other side, but I would guess it's one of the best on the island, period). We had a memorable anniversary dinner there...so much so that we returned the following night! The atmosphere is beautiful. Wine and food were fantastic. After four days on-island, our taste buds finally felt like they were in the Caribbean! Staff was accommodating and friendly. We loved it.

“Loved it!”
Reviewed April 15, 2009

great place, great food, unforgettable! This eclectic restaurant epitomizes the character of the island. Colorful decor, large open windows framed with tall bouganvilla and frangipani , looking out at coral bay and a creative Carib fusion menu that they offer to pair with your favorite rum! Unique and yes, unforgettable.

“Sophisticated Carribean fare”

Had dinner here on our last night in Coral Bay. Wonderful food, friendly server, great bayside location. Get a table on the patio. Great Rum "flights". NYC trained chef. Best place for gourmet island food.

“Great Food, Horrible Service”
Reviewed February 16, 2009

Our one night for a thought-to-be-wonderful evening turned out to be utterly disasterous.
Our waitress was absolutely not qualified to be working there. We arrived on time, seated on time and our waitress did not come to our table for the next 25-30 minutes. She forgot to bring us our 29 dollar sample app. that would have been shared amongst three people, the entire evening she came to our table to deliver our main meals -- that was IT. She was just not attentive. That reflected in her tip.
Not only was the experience bad and disappointing, but the waitress proceeded to follow us out of the restaurant muttering under her breathe and yelling not to come back. All I can say is VERY UNPROFESSIONAL.
