“Fine for short stay”
Reviewed January 1, 2014

We stayed at the Peace Guesthouse for one night in July 2012 and we had a nice time at this lovely guesthouse. We had a huge guesthouse with a nice living with a refrigerator and a TV area and 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. Unfortunately the water wasn't warm and the bathroom is a bit old. There was no shower but only a bath and the bathroom wasn't very clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Dinner wasn't very good and we had to wait a lot for our ordered food. Breakfast was ok but the buffet wasn't very rich.

The Houses are dispersed between gardens on the Hotel Ground an directly on the border of Lake Kivu. Nice Location but not all the gardens are well maintained.
Still, if we stay again in the surroundings, we would chose the Peace Guest House again, without any doubt, as it is in a touristy quiet place and you can have a great stay here for a short period of time.

We enjoyed our two night stay, and were impressed with the location and peaceful atmosphere. We very much appreciated the high level of professional and friendly service provided by the staff, particularly by the manager Alpha, who made us feel very welcome and also organized our transport to Kamembe and the Congolese border (which was a must-see for us). The rooms are basic but comfortable, but do check out the mattresses, as some definitely need replacing.

We visited here in February with a large group (13 of us), and were welcomed by the staff with open arms. They did a great job preparing the various housing arrangements for us, and everyone was very happy. This is just such a peaceful spot, overlooking Lake Kivu and with a view of Bukavu in the background. The grounds are lush and well-landscaped, and when they are lit up at night, are fantastic. We look forward to visiting this place again and again. It is our favorite place to stay in all Rwanda!

Room Tip: There is a large house that can accomodate a family or a larger number of guests. If you are going...

Stayed here with a group for work and the staff at the Peace Guesthouse was wonderful. They were very attentive and considerate. One colleague and I shared the villa and it worked out well with a nice area for our team to work in. The grounds were beautiful and peaceful. The small restaurant was clean and the food was good. I would stay here again in the future.

Room Tip: The villa has two bedrooms and each bedroom has a separate bath. Good for families or groups.

We were hoping to stay here when we found ourselves having to spend the night in Cyangugu. But when we checked it out, eeek, we got an ick feeling. First of all, it costs almost $40 for a crappy cement room that smelled extremely musty and felt a little creepy. Sure the place is pretty, and quiet, but we would have been the only guests, and that felt more eerie than peaceful.

There aren't really good options in this area. We ended up staying at Hotel des Chutes, because we ate dinner there and it was cheaper. (It was also an icky cement room, but at least it was $20 cheaper). We also checked out Petit colline guest house, which was kind of cute. We would have stayed there but preferred being on the lake, looking across towards the DRC.

We have stayed here as a family twice now, and the staff has always been warm and welcoming and the rooms clean. Especially for this somewhat sleepy corner of Rwanda (touristically speaking, anyhow!), this is a great option for travelers. The food is also quite good and plentiful.

We will be staying here again in February 2013, and are looking forward to it!

Room Tip: The rondavels are very nice, but the cheapest rooms are the ones in the single block, with the ones...
