Villa Molek Langkawi
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed January 9, 2014

this was our second visit to langkawi. the last time we stayed at a large hotel, and enjoyed all the amenities.
this time (7 years later) we read all the reviews again on tripadvisor and stumbled upon the villa molek, what luck !
staying at the molek feels like its your own apartment, that you bought after coming into some money.
the rooms are large and have everything you need. they are spotlessly clean.
the breakfasts are great and the coffee is strong.
the location is perfect, quietly tucked away a few yards from all the action in the nearby villages.
there is a very small pool, but it was never busy, and you could spend a day relaxing round it with no interuptions.
we ate at the on site italian restaurant a couple of times and the food was very good.
the owners are on site and are friendly, thoughtful and helpful.
fruit, nuts and crisps were in the room on the day of arrival and these were complimentary.
two free bottles of water were left in the fridge each day.
xmas sweet treats were left in our room one night, and a bottle of sparkling wine was left in the room on new years eve. thoughtfulness and attention to detail that other hotels could learn from.
what makes this property extra special is the friendliness and helpfulness of all the other staff, from those serving breakfast, to the housekeeping staff. they are all an asset to the property.
thank you to all the team for making our stay special.
if i were to be picky, i would recommend updating the loungers around the pool.

Room Tip: upstairs rooms have a great balcony

We have recently returned from an 8 night stay at this beautiful place and wished we had booked for the whole of the two weeks that we were travelling in Malaysia. This really is an amazing place and deserves the great reviews. The staff are welcoming and friendly, nothing is too much trouble for them. The suites are lovely - plenty of space and spotlessly clean. The breakfast was plentiful with loads of choice and is served until 11.30am! There are two restraurants, an Italian and a Malaysian. We ate at both several times because the food, service and welcome were so good. Everyone was so nice and friendly.
We thought the location was perfect, peaceful and relaxing with the beach only 5 minutes stroll away.
We loved our stay so much that we are already planning to return again. It's just a wonderful place to come to chill out, relax and unwind .
Thank you Villa Molek team for looking after us so well.

Villa Molek is a boutique hotel near popular Pentai Cenang beach, but you'll be in peaceful tranquility staying here.
The suites are large (bedroom, dressing area, dining area, tv area, and mini kitchen, plus a big balcony or deck) so you can stay a while and feel comfortable.
The gardens and pool are beautiful and the perfect place to escape from the heat and humidity.
The rates include a delicious breakfast served from 8:30 to 11:30 so you can sleep in if you want.
There is a spa on site (great reflexology foot massage!) plus a restaurant serving authentic Malaysian food.
Staff are charming and kind.
Villa Molek is a great place to relax.

My second stay at Villa Molek with hosts Sue & Peter. My husband absolutely loves it here for our honeymoon & not one complaint as perfect as before. Rosli is a wonderful helpful staff member as are all the cleaning girls. We love them. Breakfasts are amazing for choices the pool is refreshing after the beach & shopping, location location location close to car hire next door definitely see Zam @ 5 Elements for an amazing massage & acupuncture next door & bottle shop. If its available book the traditional Malay Rumah way down the bottom of the garden as very private & romantic huge space with everything you need & more we will be back as husband already planning our next trip. Thank you as all perfect!!

I can only presume from reading many of the previous reviews that people must have low expectations when coming to langkawi. Yes, the rooms are quite large, yes there is a kitchenette, yes there is a separate living area with uncomfortable sofa and chairs. Yes, there are very few TV channels, actually 3 of them as two are the same channel. Why they have no news channels is quite beyond me? Even if you are on holiday to get away from everything a news channel would be required I would have thought. Ok, so poor TV channels, but hang on, they provide a DVD player! Maybe there's a good DVD we can watch while the rain buckets down outside. For a hotel where children are not allowed, why does the entire DVD collection have to be made up of children's films plus a copy of slum dog millionaire!!!!

The room smelt quite damp and musty throughout our entire stay. The soil pipe from the upstairs apartment runs right throughout the back of our apartment so I can tell you the toilet habits of our upstairs neighbours too!!!! The bed, whilst comfortable, also had the stale smell to it.

Breakfast is fine, a small but simple selection of foods, nothing more to be expected of a 12 room hotel. Staff seemed quite pleasant but, no I have not complained. There is nothing that they can change unless they reduce the room rate. Generally, the higher the price the higher the expectation and this hotel simply does not live up to my expectations!!!!

For the price that people pay to stay here, I am simply amazed at the reviews that this place gets.

Perfect guest house, nothing to fault, apartments much larger than appears on website, Delivers on all fronts if you have done your homework. The walk to the beach was shorter than expected from previous reviews ,2mins, Good amenities nearby eg. car hire (literally next door and is fair and honest - we did not hire at the airport as a single days hire from this outlet proved great value) , laundry and patisserie.

Malaysian restaurant on site offered a small but good quality menu (see separate review) we ate there twice.

Cleaning staff were 1st class and breakfast was exceptional considering there are only 12 rooms. The pool is small but no problem as never crowded.

We met the owner a couple of times and was always friendly and polite.

Overall a great place and would not hesitate to return again.

Room Tip: !st floor rooms are great with a fantastic view of the water buffalo opposite.
