I can only presume from reading many of the previous reviews that people must have low expectations when coming to langkawi. Yes, the rooms are quite large, yes there is a kitchenette, yes there is a separate living area with uncomfortable sofa and chairs. Yes, there are very few TV channels, actually 3 of them as two are the same channel. Why they have no news channels is quite beyond me? Even if you are on holiday to get away from everything a news channel would be required I would have thought. Ok, so poor TV channels, but hang on, they provide a DVD player! Maybe there's a good DVD we can watch while the rain buckets down outside. For a hotel where children are not allowed, why does the entire DVD collection have to be made up of children's films plus a copy of slum dog millionaire!!!!

The room smelt quite damp and musty throughout our entire stay. The soil pipe from the upstairs apartment runs right throughout the back of our apartment so I can tell you the toilet habits of our upstairs neighbours too!!!! The bed, whilst comfortable, also had the stale smell to it.

Breakfast is fine, a small but simple selection of foods, nothing more to be expected of a 12 room hotel. Staff seemed quite pleasant but, no I have not complained. There is nothing that they can change unless they reduce the room rate. Generally, the higher the price the higher the expectation and this hotel simply does not live up to my expectations!!!!

For the price that people pay to stay here, I am simply amazed at the reviews that this place gets.

Perfect guest house, nothing to fault, apartments much larger than appears on website, Delivers on all fronts if you have done your homework. The walk to the beach was shorter than expected from previous reviews ,2mins, Good amenities nearby eg. car hire (literally next door and is fair and honest - we did not hire at the airport as a single days hire from this outlet proved great value) , laundry and patisserie.

Malaysian restaurant on site offered a small but good quality menu (see separate review) we ate there twice.

Cleaning staff were 1st class and breakfast was exceptional considering there are only 12 rooms. The pool is small but no problem as never crowded.

We met the owner a couple of times and was always friendly and polite.

Overall a great place and would not hesitate to return again.

Room Tip: !st floor rooms are great with a fantastic view of the water buffalo opposite.

We stayed in Villa Molek for five nights recently. We wanted a small resort with no children. Villa Molek lived up to all our expectations. Breakfast was varied, cereals, fresh fruit, different breads, croissants, yogurt, cheese, eggs cooked to order and my husband had the special chicken curry and roti on two occasions which he thoroughly enjoyed. This is ordered in advance. The coffee was very good too. The area of the accommodation is as big as a small apartment and we really enjoyed the "outside" toilet and shower. The air conditioning was efficient and quiet. The cat visits were a plus as was watching hornbills in the tree next to our apartment and also the squirrel on the roof. I had a three and a half hour spa treatment which was most enjoyable and the price was comparable to the spas in the immediate area.

The gentleman on the desk was very obliging and booked the boat cruise we wanted and arranged the taxi to the Langkawi Yacht Club for us. We were also able to check out late at no extra cost which was much appreciated. Hire cars were hard to get when we were there as there were a lot of Chinese visitors but he managed to find one for us and it was delivered to us very promptly.

We had a meal at the hotel's Malaysian restaurant. I was disappointed in my selection but my husband really enjoyed his. We also had a meal at the Italian restaurant on-site and that was a very nice meal. Also, check out the hotel gift shop. It's closed most of the time but you only have to ask and you can go in. When we were there everything had 30% off and the quality of goods was excellent.

Room Tip: Upstairs villa as there is more light on the verandah.

I have stayed at a number of different hotels on Langkawi, but this is certainly one of the best, if not the best. It is a small complex and my upstairs room over looked the swimming pool. The Villa Molek focuses on every detail; even the mineral water bottles in the refridgerator had colour coded tops to match the decor of the room. I was given a free foot massage and there was a sumptuous breakfast. On the morning I went snorkelling my breakfast was bought to my room on the previous evening. I chose to eat out in the evening, but there was a Malaysian and an Italian restaurant on site. You are surrounded by the jungle and there is a wonderful atmosphere. I would particularly like to thank Rosli (the person who was at the reception desk and seemed to be in charge). There was nothing he would not do and he was very friendly and always asked about our day both before we went out and when we came back. Well Done Rosli! I would certainly go back again!

Villa Molek is the perfect place to stay if you’re looking for something different to a hotel.

LOCATION: Villa Molek is in a central location, an easy walk to the beach and to the main street.
Out the front are 2 restaurants, and just down the road are quite a few other places to eat.
Next door is a motorbike hire shop which is honest and reliable.

TYPE OF ROOM: Top floor villa (MYR 475 per night.
Our villa was lovely and spacious, in fact it was much larger than we expected. The living area and kitchen are separate to the bedroom, and the bathroom is separated by a screen which leads outdoors.
All of the decor in the villa was modern and stylish, with lovely little finishing touches like a welcome note and snacks on arrival. The exception being the TV which was quite small and an older style (which was fine as we were not in Langkawi to watch TV!).

The only downside for us was sleep quality. During our stay it was Hari Raya festival, and as such the very large hotel behind Villa Molek was full of guests celebrating the festival and enjoying the long weekend. As a result we had a lot of noise every night until about 4am. None of this is the fault of Villa Molek, however it is worth noting if you’re considering staying during a busy period and want a quiet nights sleep.

Breakfast was included in the room price. If you stay at Villa Molek do yourself a favour and have the chicken curry with roti for breakfast, it is delicious!

CLEANLINESS: The room was clean, towels were changed every 2nd day.

TV/Wi-Fi: The TV in our room had a selection of channels. Wi-Fi was available however the signal was very weak in our room, much stronger in reception.

BATHROOM/SHOWER: We really liked the outdoor bathroom. The water pressure was good.
To access the shower we used one door and to access the toilet there was another door.
The plants are still growing which provide screening outside the bathroom area, so we did find that at night time people from the hotel behind us could see in to our bathroom if we had the light on, but no problem if the light was off or if we were using the shower during the day.

SERVICE: All of our emails with Villa Molek were responded to quickly, however we did find it a bit impersonal that they were always signed off ‘Villa Molek team’, never signed off by an individual.
The restaurant staff are lovely and friendly, the western gentleman (owner?) isn’t as friendly or welcoming, but certainly isn’t unpleasant.
We adore animals and enjoyed having visits from the resident cats at Villa Molek.

OVERALL: We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Molek, and when we return to Langkawi will consider staying here again, just not during a busy holiday period.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the upper floor.

Love this place, very nice appartment with a very friendly staff who help you to enjoy your stay at Langkawi. Location is perfect, walking distance from the beach, restaurants and shops, yet in a quiet area.
Absolutely recommend it.

Searching for somewhere to stay on Langkawi, I sought the advice of my fellow trip advisors. Thank you! My husband and I loved staying at Villa Molek. Our villa (think mini apartment) was wonderful. Complimentary breakfasts were great (fruits, breads, cold buffet + cooked eggs as you like them). Staff were also polite and helpful. A big advantage of staying here is that there are two good restaurants at the front of the property: one Italian and one Malay.
Also on-site is a beauty salon (for massages, pedicures and manicures, etc.). As we were given a 'free foot massage' voucher when we checked into our accommodation, I chose to go and add on a pedicure. If you wish, salon services can also be given in the privacy of your room.
The pool is not large or fancy, but it is very clean and great for cooling off.
Villa Molek is well positioned. There is a little French bakery (French Chef) about 100 yards down the road. There are plenty of restaurants nearby and, if you really want to try a restaurant further afield, taxi fares are incredibly cheap (compared to Melbourne prices).

Room Tip: IMO the upstairs villas are best.
