Had a lovely time with Badal Singh and Narpath. Amazingly spent 3 days in Khuri. Badal Singh arranges Camping in the Sand dunes as well. That was the highlights of the trip. The food and the reception was very very homely....

Simply Brilliant !!! Can't find many men like Badal Singh who are so simple !!!

We had been there during 3rd week of December 2012. Badal sing is exactly what has been described by others. He is honest & this is something we never find these days. He arranged our nightstay in the desert at an unbelievable price & we had an unforgettable lunch cooked by his wife.

the experience was nothing like we had before, very simple down to earth people. We completely relaxed during the stay here,it was very nice speaking to Badal Singh knowing how much attached he is to the animals he own. Don't get fooled by the other commercially running resorts, which offer you the village stay and desert safari for a minimum of Rs.1200. But Badal Singh charges you Rs.300 per person with food for the stay in his house and desert stay for Rs.600 and tip for the camel guy,the experience is very different than any commercially run resorts as there are so many people its too crowded.

If you're going on a vacation to take a break from the hectic city life, want some solace and can live with a village experience for a few days, Khuri is 'the' place and Badal House should be your destination. The house, just like the man himself, cannot get any simpler than this. And there is a beauty even in this simplicity. The village of Khuri is about 40 km from Jaisalmer proper, down a quiet and winding road alongside the Desert National Park, but the ride is worth it.

The soft-spoken Badal ji strives to make you feel at home, and he does a great job at it. Its everything you would expect from an Indian village, complete with the goats and cows that Badal ji himself herds. The home cooked food is excellent. The room rates are so low that they will force you to do a double-take. Rarely you will come across a person who doesn't run a guest house for money. Its probably because he treats you like a family member.

We did a camel safari from his place, saw a beautiful sunset from the sand dunes and then spent a night on them. Its much quieter here than the Sam Dunes in Jaisalmer. Even the camel herders are very friendly. They cooked heavenly food for us that night, and then to sit and dine under the stars.... its an ambiance that even the best restaurants cannot recreate. To sleep with a blanket of stars overhead was an unforgettable experience, and I think that everyone should have this experience once in their lifetime.

A stay at the Badal House is totally recommended. You can call him on his cellphone number (+918107339097) to reserve a room.

We stayed at Badal House for 5 nights (end of November 2012) of which one in the desert. Everybody in Jaisalmer told us not to go to Khuri because it was too touristy and busy but that’s just plain lies. It is so relaxing and peaceful in Khuri and it’s such a welcome change from staying in all the busy cities. We called Badal the day before arrival and he picked us up from the bus station. If you want to call him make sure to use his new number +918107339097, because the old one got disconnected. We immediately felt like it was a home away from home. Badal charges only 300 Rupees per person per day and that is including all meals and chai. So far he is the only guesthouse in India where I’ve been that still charges the same price as mentioned in the Lonely Planet from 2009 which I carry around. The food (cooked by his wife) is lovely. To give you an example for diner you can expect: rice, vegetable and potato curry, dal, chapati’s, papadum and pickle. Everything is very fresh and tasty. Badal and his family have goats and cows and they use the fresh milk to make curd, butter, lassis and chai. Badal is a very calm and honest man and is happy to answer any questions about life in the desert. He was a camel driver for many years and has a lot of knowledge about everything. His 3 children are very helpful and polite and speak good English. There are 3 huts and several rooms at Badal House. There is no difference in price and you can also switch to one of the rooms if you’ve chosen the hut but find it a little too uncomfortable for a long stay. The compound is very clean and they clean and maintain it very well. We went on a camel safari for one night. Badal charges only 550 Rupees for the safari (and you don’t have to pay the 300 Rupees on that day). Badals oldest sun and nephew were our camel drivers and they made sure we were very comfortable. After finding a quiet spot in the dunes and watching the sunset they made us a lovely diner. They brought all the ingredients and made fresh chapati’s, dhal, rice and curry. The only thing we brought ourselves was some water. They provided a mattress and blankets for us. In the morning we had tasty fresh paratha’s and tea before we started to head back to Khuri. I would definitely recommend going to Khuri and staying at Badal House. Ignore the people in Jaisalmer that tell you that Khuri is busy and ignore the guy on the bus from Arjun Family Guesthouse that tries to convince you to stay at his guesthouse with a slightly cheaper price, because the experience is just not the same and the camel safari’s are more expensive.

Located an hour from jaisalmer (we drove a bike) It was an excellent place to stay. Not just for an excellent camel safari with a very decent price but also because of the simplicity and hospitality of Mr Badal.

The food we were offered was very tasty and refreshing - Sweet paratha, tea from the pet goat's milk, curd, and pickle. The staff of Mr Badal who took us for safari was decent and helpful.
Overall an enjoyable experience and must visit.

We loved Badal House! Badal and his family were so lovely. We were so lucky to come upon this guest house by chance and do not regret it at all! Badal does everything he can to make you feel welcome, and he arranges camel safari's tailored to your needs and at a much cheaper price than those organised from Jaisalmer. Badal House is exceptionally good value for money and is definitely worth a visit!
