I met my husband for our first date here at the Eating House 21 years ago when he was living in Sheffield and I was living in Manchester, and it still a favourite of ours on days out in the Peak District. We often meet friends from east of the Peak District here, and take other friends staying with us.

It can get quite busy at lunchtimes, and so it's worth trying to get there early if you plan to lunch there. The meals and cakes are excellent and good value, meals range from snacks like sandwiches to jacket potatoes with unusual fillings and heartier meals. They only do filter coffee, not espressos, lattes, cappucinos etc. But you get free refills of coffee and tea.

The atmosphere is quite characterful, a typical English teashop 'plus'. I agree with another reviewer who suggests that a conservatory on the rear would be a good addition, but on a warm day it is also nice to sit on the small patio outside. The attached craft shop has a wide variety of pretty gifts and accessories.

this is the perfect spot for setting off for a walk on Curbar Edge. If you take the semi-circular road which loops off the main road here, and then turn uphill, you will come in about a mile to a car park on the left (pay and display). If you park here, and follow the footpath up onto the moor, it will soon bring you to the dramatic edge at the top of Curbar Edge cliffs - a classic gritstone location in the Dark Peak. The views are wonderful across the valley to Eyam Moor, and along the valley to Chatsworth - from here you can usually see the jet of the water fountain at Chatsworth House shooting high into the air. The path is very easy to follow, and very easy underfoot, firm and sandy. You can wander in among the amazingly shaped rocks at the end, and watch the rock climbers at their efforts, we often just walk out along the edge till it starts to descend and then turn back again. Kids love scrambling among the rocks,a nd there are lots of great places for picnics.

This small coffee shop is next door to the Derbyshire Craft Shop on the right as you enter Calver from Baslow. It's very small inside and at at busy times access is itght with not much space between tables. On warm days there is access to an outside area protected by a rush-matting high fence. This area could do with being replaced by a conservatory, that would be a great cheap addition.

The food is all home-prepared with home baked cake. All looks delicious and is definitely so. A good choice of sandwiches as well, all served with salad, coleslaw, etc. They do warn that as the food is prepared for each order there will be a slight delay. We've always found it ok though.

Parking can be a bit limited but there is on-road parking round the old road and over the River Derwent bridge. The corridor between the craft shop and the teashop also has toilet facilities but these are inaccessible to wheelchair users and could be difficult to anyone who can't manage a few steep stairs.

A handy place to stop for an hour if you're passing. Great food and an interesting little shop to add to the visit.

This cafe is situated at the end of the Derbyshire Craft Centre in the little hamlet of Calver, and is somewhat cramped but the home-made food and friendly, efficient staff make an excellent visit.

Just really enjoy this stop-off on our way to the Peaks. The food is delicious - if sometimes a little expensive. The cakes are irresistible. Serve real coffee.
The shop is well worth a visit too. Lots of different and interesting items on sale. The Christmas displays are delightful and good ideas.
Usually visit 2 or 3 times a year. I could spend hours in the shop.
