First, the good, then the odd. The room, linen and common areas were all very clean. The family was friendly (Spanish speaking only). The breakfast was one of the largest we had in 5+ weeks. Everything in Villa O'Higgins is in easy walking distance - except you are still about a 15 minute drive from the dock & the sign for the end of the Carretera. Free WiFi - usual slow speed, but you can ready email & post text. We would stay here again.

We booked ahead - which may be necessary, especially to get the room with a private bath. All of the guest rooms are upstairs and the staff leaves about 9 - 10 pm. It was quite spacious, but had an interesting mix of features. There was a huge jetted jaccuzi/tub - but a notice at the desk that it required an extra fee to use. (We didn't ask for the price or use it.) I think this was due to the water possibly being heated with wood - or maybe for the extra propane it would take to heat that much water. The very new toilet didn't flush well or at all. The room had some homemade decoration in the corner - qualified as the tackiest I've ever seen - foam flower petals strung on yarn & hanging from a stick (ok) with wadded up tissue and toilet paper (!!) glued in the centers. You are at the end of the Carretera Austral here, so supplies of everything are limited & apparently craft supplies are nearly non-existent.

The kitchen stove is a wood stove - so you have to ask for wood to be added to use it. The breakfast was prepared, covered and set out the night before, which seemed a bit odd as it included meat and cheese. However, it was cool enough that it didn't spoil. The proprietor/manager doesn't arrive back until about 10 am. We observed this being a problem for a couple of men who needed to pay so they could leave & catch the ferry north. They found a police officer who hung around & waited to pay her, we guess because we left for the same ferry. (Our bill was paid on check-in.)

There are a huge amount of public works upgrades happening in Villa O'Higgins. It appears that they are building up the tourist infrastructure as well. Not too many restaurants here. The similarities to Tolar Grande in Argentina were striking - in spite of the nearly opposite scenery. Both towns were the only places in each country where recycling bins were available on the streets - in nearly every block. Meal of the day for the workers means the restaurants are full & some have no space for tourists - which we are 100% supportive of - the restaurant we did eat in had good food & freshly baked biscuits.

Room Tip: Book ahead for the private bath - only one.

Surprisingly good hotel for a reasonable price run by talented and entrepreneurial owner. We reviewed a number of hotels/hostels in O'Higgins while writing a travel guide of the Carretera. This one is highly recommended.

This is a fantastic BnB on the outskirts of town but within easy walking distance of the square and shops. If you're looking for somewhere nice a quiet this is the place. If you're into walking it's the closest to getting onto trails. The rooms/bathroom are clean and comfy. Breakfast is good with a selection of tea, coffee, fresh bread, ham, cheese and homemade jam.
Yaline was more than generous and kind, making me feel immediately at home. Also very helpful with travel info. I'd fully recommend staying here if you're passing through.

Yaline has been really helpful. Breakfast was included as well as towels. The place was inmaculately clean. I am sorry i could only stay for one night. It is one block away from Buses Catalina departing to Cochrane. Very convenient location!
