For those who want a more succinct review, I will be brief. Location, staff, food and villas will be very hard to beat anywhere in the world let alone the Maldives. Amazing, you have to go.
Out of adversity comes opportunity, it was that which lead our party of 8 to book this amazing resort in the Maldives. I was definitely lead by the reviews on here but also Six Senses does have an enviable reputation and we had been to a couple before.
Arrival at Male is by the six senses team and they whisk you away to get your connection to Laamu 40 mins later and you are whipped a cross the ocean in a well maintained fast boat with all the mod cons and a smart knowledgeable crew.
Then that's when the magic starts out of the ocean reminiscent of water world this rustic village appears with pristine white sand, azure blue water teeming with all colours and sizes of fish. (More on the reef later). The GM, her team are all introduced and you are whisked away on a quick recce of the main areas and then to your own private paradise. We had chosen on land villas as we had a baby with our group and wanted larger family spaces. This really paid dividends when we wanted our own communal pool and family days. Accommodation is clean, large and very comfy. Turndown and ice always prompt. We also chose the full board and the sinners option to cover all food and beverage with very few exclusions, which were not unreasonable.
Our first meal was met with delight from us all. Fresh cocktails, fresh fish and nothing was too much trouble. The little one is going through a broccoli phase and the kitchen kept providing it. Portion sizes are good and variety is excellent. Our favourites were the fish, the fish and the fish with maybe a a pizza and steak chucked in. The Mediterranean night and the Asian street market were massive hits with our gang as well. Lots of variety and all produced fresh.
The gang enjoyed an electric surfboard, diving and I went fishing twice returning with enough fish to feed all of us twice over. The boat crew will have eaten especially well that day.
Now you may be wondering how all this is organised especially for a group of 8. Very simply. You have one point of contact a GEM as they call them and they certainly are diamonds. We created a WhatsApp group and it all flowed easily from there. Everything was taken care of. From ice to laundry to baby care to fishing.
Six senses have another island at their disposal. It is uninhabited and in the middle of nowhere and they drop you off with the most amazing picnic and drinks and come back 6 hours later. Your own piece of desert island bliss. Highly recommended.
This trip had several firsts for us and I wanted to share them. I caught a wahoo. I swam with a turtle. I swam with a shark. I swam with a sting ray and I swam with hundreds of fish I had never seen before. I saw nemo fish in their natural habitat. I ate seafood and fish I had never tried. I saw turtles hatching and racing into the sea, it was magical. I went to a deserted island with no inhabitants. All of this was made possible at this resort.
None of the staff have name badges this encourages interaction and is so much more relaxed and homely. Nothing is a trouble.
Marteyne has a wonderful vision which is delivered in an amazing location. Her team are an asset to her and their camaraderie is clear. I saw several staff only activities and facilities made available. Soccer pitch, diving for the staff and fishing trips all add to the team spirit.
Of special mention has to be Nasru our GEM, patience of a saint and the organisation of a military general. Well done and thank you.
We certainly saw a lot of the bar staff in which ever outlet we were in that time and they catered for every whim. In no particular order CJ, Mario, Kadam, Warren. All backed up with a great team of waiters.
I nearly forgot. Zen their Asian restaurant is better than any of the City sushi houses. Selection, freshness and innovation rule here. You must give it a go.
The house reef is outstanding. Reef is recovering and in places is pristine. Best I have seen. Variety of fish, turtles, sharks and rays are amazing. I saw dolphins too on a few occasions.
I have taken the time to write this on our return flight as I feel it is important and will help you to make an informed decision on your Maldives holiday. It's uncertain times and this place helped us share new experiences whilst in an amazing place with amazing people and in the lap of luxury. Please go I don't think you will regret it.
