My husband and I are staying at the embleton spa hotel. We spotted the wheatsheaf inn next door and decided to have a looksie. Oh my...the food choice is very good, the food amazing...and the portions...ridiculously huge!although we didn't manageto eat even half, we tried it all...for pub food I can certainly say it's well above average. The staff are very friendly too. Highly recommend the wheatsheaf inn :)

We dined at the wheatsheaf last night, this was the new owners first night for food it was excellent, well cooked piping hot and lots of it I don't know how anyone could eat it all , we had to ask for a doggy bag to take some home, I think they will do very well once word gets round,

After reading the positive reviews we turned down attractive alternatives to come here, close to where we were staying. Imagine our disappointment when it was all closed up and a For Sale sign on the wall.

Stayed for the week renting a static on the site attached to the pub. Super static and a great price, nice and clean with all you would expect. Walked down for tea at the pub in the evening, lovely. Ordered the Wheatsheaf mega speciality burger, wow, amazing value and the size was unbelievable. Very tasty and well presented, staff were excellent and the beer garden which we ate in was nice, but needed a bit of attention. It sort of lost the fact you were in an amazing part of the world, needs a gardener with a bit of insight, that said it didn't spoil anything. Totally full we headed off back to the static after a very nice meal. Morning pots, passed by the beer garden at around 11:00 in the morning and all the pots and plates were still on the beer garden tables, didn't look good. But from a safety point of view when kids are running round, not a good thing,Accidents happen. The only thing this pub needs is a tidy at the back, just remember the back is just as bigger show piece as the back. ll said and done I wouldn't hesitate in coming again.

Wish i could give this restaurant a good review but i can't. Hard day at work and a trip out to Embleton for supper. Limited menu but enough to find something suitable. However i had gammon with chips and i don't know how they managed it but the chips were soft to the point of almost pureed inside! Gutted. Looked forwarded to them with the gammon and eggs but i just couldn't eat them. Picked through them to find the few 'firmish' ones. The reataurant was empty when we arrived and i can only think the chips had been re-cooked from lunchtime. Quite a few visitors had to leave the reataurant to drive into Cockermouth to get cash as there are no card facilties so be warned if you plan to visit, take cash. Yes i would give the Wheatsheaf another chance but perhaps wait until service was underway.
