“Enjoyable but short ride”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

This is the second time we have visited this attraction, so it must be half decent! Lovely scenery compliments a short (15 minute each way) but enjoyable train ride. We combined it with a visit to the Lakeland Motor Museum (parking at the museum is free and we used the free shuttle bus and combined ticket). Easily fit both in one day, with some time spare for a boat trip or a visit to the aquarium (see separate review for this).

“Beautiful and hugely helpful staff”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

Have meant to write this since last year when we visited. I foolishly failed to read the timetable correctly and ended up stranded at Lakeside station after the last train had left, with a 3-year-old and a car left in the car park at the other end. The manager first tried to call us a taxi, then, when the wait was going to be too long, drove us back himself, even sourcing a car seat for my daughter from another member of staff. He was kindness itself, despite my completely bringing it on myself - can't thank him enough.

Before the slightly stressful end of the day, we had a great steam train ride and particularly enjoyed visiting the aquarium - highly recommend it, beautiful fish and animals, particularly the otters. The view from the restaurant is also fab, I wish we had given ourselves longer to explore and enjoy our time there!

“Short but very sweet”
Reviewed February 21, 2013

Great fun for the young, not so young, and former train spotters! At Haverthwaite the workshop is Very interesting, the food good (including jumbo scones) and the ambience authentic. Just a pity that the facilities and track couldn't be extended any further towards Ulverston! The train ride is short,of course, and authentically clunky but if you don't care for that, the view at Lakeside is wonderful and really opens out towards the waiting Lakes steamer - also highly recommended.
