“brilliant resort in amazing beachside location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 4, 2012

had a wonderful 2 night stay in a 1 bedroom apartment with sea views. Self contained with everything you could need. Standard bath size spa with overhead shower. Perfect location across the road from bay like beach. Heated famly pool. Perfect for families and couples. Restaurants, cafes and shops right at your door, not to mention on site spa facilities. Definately recommend

We stayed in one of the Zenith rooms which was 'out the back'. You really had to go outside, down the lane, through the carpark and through many locked doors and floors before you got to the room. The room was spacious but lacked any character or charm. The wifi was too expensive. But the location and garaged parking is great. Not bad, a pit too pricey for what you got.

We stayed in a one bedroom heritage apartment. It was quite spacious. The unit is long and narrow, the bedroom just off the hall to the right of the front door. It has no windows but doesn't feel stuffy. The bathroom was huge with a shower and huge spa. There is a washing machine and drier in a european laundry space off the hall, one portion of washing powder supplied. Also a full size ironing board and good clean iron.
The kitchen has a cook top and microwave oven, dishwasher and full size fridge.
Plenty of crockery and cooking utensils saucepans supplied, however no microwave dishes.
Tea, coffee sugar and milk supplied.
There is a balcony off the lounge with magnificent views of the waterfront. The unit was very clean and pleasently decorated. There are lots of extra tv chanels if you get tired of the beach.
The breakfast was not great and the food in the bistro was average. There is an IGA supermarket next door so I would advise self catering, which I did after trying a few meals in the bistro.

Stayed here for 2 nights in a 2 bed barrington apartment. The apartment was cosy, smaller than I expected but good enough for our family of 4. Had views to the side of the water looking toward nelson bay. Bedroom layout was strange, queen bed was in a room with no windows while our boys enjoyed a room with a balcony and ensuite ??? Shoal bay itself is lovely as is the whole port Stephens area. I would stay in this area again but would probably stay somewhere else as for nearly $500 a night with no breakfast was a joke.

Room Tip: If you can't get water views don't bother

We had breakfast at thsi place last month. They lost our order and then took another 20 minutes to make it. All up over an hours wait. Sure, orders get lost but it was the way the staff dealt with it that was unbelievable. They were downright rude and didn't apologise at all. They made us feel like it was our fault! When the food finally arrived it was very ordinary. We visit Shoal Bay often and sure won't be going back to this place.

Room Tip: Go to Marcos Restaurant just up the road, much better all round.

I stayed here in a 1 bedroom Heritage apartment on 1/09/12. I must say Shoal Bay Resort and Spa was the best place I have stayed in a long while. Very quiet area right on the beach. Had everything I needed and the day spa was my highlight!

From parking my car to checking in and giving directions, the staff could not have been more friendlier and helpful. The wonderful lady at the day spa was great to have a chat to and gave reccomodations about taking a cruise from Nelson Bay. I also must say the woman who ran the Promanade restaurant was wonderful.

The room was large and clean and had everything you could want for a weekend or longer away. I had a side on view of the water overlooking the main driveway but didnt hear a thing during the night, even though i knew guests were coming and going from the wedding reception in the resort restaurant.

If you head here, do not miss a chance to relax in the day spa. Wonderfully clean lap pool and the three different spas were a joy to experience. Although make sure you start in the lap pool then enjoy the spas from coolest to warmest. Because you will not want to get in the others once youve enjoyed the 38 degree spa. ( i only got out because the place was closing at 7.30)

I ate at the italian buffet as the only other option was the bistro/bar and that was very busy. I had just started to eat my meal when a large group of people came from the bistro saying they had waited two hours for their meals only to be told they had run out of chicken. They werent impressed but i was glad i made the right choice.

I stayed in and watched tv on a huge screen in my room and you can rent dvds from reception if nothing was on. started to rain about 9pm but it was good to watch the cockatoos bathing themselves in the rain from my opening window.

Checking out was very quick the next morning and the car park was very close. I ended up going on a cruise on the Sunday.

I can not reccomend this place highly enough. Was very family friendly ( although the day spa is only for 16 years +) and very easy to get to from Sydney. I'll definitely be back here when i can get more time off work.
