Another year at the Eggwirt and I endorse everything I said last year. More improvements this year as the bedrooms in one wing have been totally refurbished and there are plans to refurbish the other wing this winter. Only drawback is the bathrooms are very small and not much can be done unless the whole structure of the building is changed. Traffic noise in the mornings and during the day in some rooms. Food and service always remains good, hotel always warm just as the welcome!

Room tip: Overlooking the piazza.

We have been coming to the Eggwirt for 20 years, it never ceases to please, always friendly and very well run by the Swienbacher family. Improvements this year are a spa and fitness centre on the lower ground floor. Buffet breakfast and excellent evening meals with enormous portions, by the end of the week we were asking for half a portion! Wonderful desserts. This year Wi Fi has been installed at a cost of 2 euro an hour, ask for password at reception. The weekly walk led by Oswald Schwienbacher is still a regular feature on a Tuesday. It's like staying with old friends. The only downfall as the years pass is the flight of steps from the car park and the marble stairs to all floors in the hotel, no possibility I think with the layout of the building of having a lift installed. Spotlessly clean, rooms Tyrolean style but unfortunately shower rooms are very small in some of the rooms. No TV or frigobar in rooms but there is a safe. Radiators are always warm on chilly evenings. Excellent value for money. Dogs accepted free of charge. Some traffic noise. Large sun terraces and outside eating areas.

Room tip: Don't chose if you have restricted mobility.

This hotel is fantastic. It is an old fashioned style hotel with lovely old
furniture and fittings, loads of charm. The bed rooms are plain and simple but spotless, good beds and pillows. The food is absolutely wonderful, we stayed for 3 nights and had 3 evening meals and ate everything they brought it was all so good. We stayed in a much more expensive hotel in the region and the food and the Eggwirt was 100 X better. The hotel is family run and speak little English except a grand-daughter but are totally charming, with old fashioned manners - that is a compliment! The breakfasts are good also. Or if you fancy a change their is an excellent alternative place to eat just next door. The hotel has a large outdoor area with terraces, greenery, tables, chairs, and it is spread out enough you can find a nice spot for yourselves without feeling crowded, and watch the world go by with a (nicely chilled) Weisbeer. Heaven. Can't wait to go back next year.

We have been going to the Gasthof Eggwirt for five years now. It's like stepping back in time. The Schwienbacker family cannot do enough to make you feel at home. Every room has a balconey and a wall safe. All members of the family help out in the hotel and grandfather Schwienbacker takes guests on a weekly trip up the mountain, where guests are treated to lunch and wine in one of the many summer lodges.

There is a shaded terrace for hotel guests only, with the most fabulous views of the distant mountains. The Ulten Valley was only opened up in the last hundred years and remains virtually unknown. There is a large swimming pool (public) within five minutes of the hotel which is almost always empty until the afternoon.

The food is hearty and taken in very pretty surroundings. Breakfast is served by Anna who will boil eggs for you if you ask! One of the dining rooms dates back centuries. Half-board prices ridiculously cheap. Our favourite place.
