We chose from the set menu and had a very nice dinner.
The pudding was divine - an almond tart with rhubarb ice cream.
We were staying locally and this pub is definitely worth a visit.

This fine old inn is situated in an attractive Hampshire village. We stayed one night following a family party nearby. The day had been very hot, and as we went upstairs to our bedroom, a wall of heat hit us. The bedrooms are compact with with all the basics, lack of attention to detail however - a bedside lamp was not working. One would not expect air-con in an old inn, but it would have helped sleeping! Our supper chosen from the blackboard, and eaten outside on a terrace was fine and not expensive. The beers from Hall and Woodhouse were in fine condition.Breakfast was good, and we found the staff very helpful.

We used to use this pub years ago and it was excellent but went into sad decline. I always remember it as The George Inn, not sure when "Ye old" appeared - might have given it 5 stars otherwise.

More importantly, it has now returned to being an excellent pub restaurant and we had a very good lunch with 3 friends so with 5 of us we sampled a fair bit of the set menu. Both the risotto and the belly of pork were very well received and the fish pie was excellent. Sweets were good and if there were no great surprises the Almond and apple tart was considered excellent. The set meal at £16 95 for two courses is not particularly cheap but given the overall standard neither was it particularly dear.

There was a good choice of wine by the glass at reasonable (if not exceptional) prices and the draft bitter was well received. I'm afraid the same could not be said for the expresso coffee which could have been had up under the trade description act, it was so weak and tasteless. However, we do like our coffee black and strong but that is how expresso should taste!! Service was fine and we were well received and given all the time we wanted without any undue delay.

If you don't know the area, East Meon is a beautiful village in a lovely part of Hampshire. Old Winchester Hill is a few minutes drive away with lovely walks and stunning views. The area and The George are both well worth a visit.

We stayed here whilst walking the South Downs Way. The room we had was excellent, very comfy and well equipped, with a lovely view of the church. The food in the pub was excellent, I had a beautiful piece of belly pork, followed by a very good cheesecake. The service was good considering there was a large party of students and a visiting cricket team in the pub. The beers on tap were also excellent. All in all a good time was had.
